I always assumed Pastor John was like Favourite, another one who sold his soul for success. The whole point of him asking his flock for a Rolls Royce was to show just how far from God this man is.
I think he is more of the symbolism of corruption via religion, a corrupt church is worse than an altar to Satan. Because it uses religion to decieve and not be seen. ❤
In the book, Pastor John bought a hotel in Newark. I wonder if that is where Johnny and Toots went to perform the sacrifice. This would be another connection with Pastor John to Louis Cypher and Johnny Favorite. It is only a one hour drive from Times Square to Newark.
I want to bring to your attention. The movie is based on a novel called angel heart. The author has written a sequel, which is wonderful. I originally read it.
I think it must be the same kind of deal. But maybe this was affected through voodoo. Although copilot says, "In Haitian Vodou, it is indeed possible to establish a connection with Papa Legba and seek his assistance. However, it’s essential to understand that this relationship isn’t about making “deals” in the way we might think of business transactions. Instead, it involves building a respectful and reciprocal bond." This is one of the things I find difficult about the movie. Like voodoo is the same thing as evil. But Epiphany does mention that. "We don't go around chopping people up." Something like that
Amazing that I just decided to rewatch a couple of days ago! 💗 Thank you Mr. G! And had to pause to read the poster behind the pastor. It says love all love? (Ref to reverend Love from the book?) And then "pastor john is god" how much more blasphemous can it get? The congregation has to be aware, too. Because there are so many red flags that this is completely against the bible. There's no way they don't know what they're dabbling in.
I love this movie but there’s SO much missing from dialogue in the script. It makes me wonder what the film would’ve been like if these scenes weren’t removed. Parker probably cut down at least a third of the scenes for a natural theatrical release, but then a movie such as The Godfather is 3 hours long.
No. I think he knew he cut a deal with a shady fella but self excused by telling himself he doesn’t know what’s going on. Ahhh the beauty of hiding behind god
There were in reality many "pastors" like John in New York around the time the movie is set in. Look it up online/wikipedia, there is some fascinating history of early/mid 20th century religious leaders in the black community of New York who set themselves up as God. Pastor John is very much grounded in real history.
Lucifer/Satan is the ruler of the earth. God has placed Satan in that position. Satan is unafraid of ANY church or religion. He uses them all. It is up to the us, the individual, to choose God over Satan.
Wow, I loved this film. Glad people are still talking about it.
I had literally never heard of this movie before today, so thanks
That precision manicure 💅 was a dead giveaway.
Another great Angel Heart analysis. I've learned so much watching your videos. Thank you for all the work you put into these.
Great, it became one of my favorite movies! And I discovered it only a year ago

this man is.
Absolutely, Pastor John clearly is a "client" of the Devil.
Scary thing is... there are so many "ministers" like this in real life.

CineG, you have a great voice for narration.. Delivery and content.
You are extremely kind and charitable. At times, I get raked across broken glass and hot coals for it.
I seen this movie when I was young asf, never forgot how eerie it was
Missed a golden opportunity to say "faster than two jackrabbits fuckin'."

Great work.
Go on...
William Hjortsberg , author of the novel Falling Angel was also co-screenwriter of film Angel Heart .

Eac bring the baggage, of whichever religion and beliefs, that they were groomed to accept, in childhood, from their own family and community.
enjoyed this. good one.
Great stuff man!!
Did you ever do the devil's advocate?
The prophecy has a great portrayal of Louie also.
Imo VM hit a homerun.
I saw The Devil's Advocate at the cinema in Baltimore in 1997. I have not made a video about it yet.
Even the release date of this movie was a deliberate easter egg. March 6th 1987...3/6

So far i have not seen it pointed out that the man who falls isn’t Pastor John but a stunt double
One of my most recommended films this and Jacob’s ladder
Who was the man in the picture on the wall behind the throne ?
I think it's just Pastor John in a suit.
No. I think he knew he cut a deal with a shady fella but self excused by telling himself he doesn’t know what’s going on. Ahhh the beauty of hiding behind god
I apologize for this completely incoherent sentence. I dictated into the microphone and the intelligent iPad screwed up all the words.
I'd venture to guess that the eyeballs in pastors cabinet came from the recently deceased member of his congregation
Pastor John has inverted crosses in hos closet. I think he knew EXACTLY who he was dealing with.
as soon as i saw the banner that said "pastor John is God" I knew what he was all about

I always figured he was the Antichrist.

It looks like Pastor John has long nails just like Cyphre
