2024 exam experience: I did the exam in 2024, June. I took it 3 weeks ago. I am currently awaiting my offer into Nossal. (I will post an edit if the results came out. Hope I get in!) This is for people that want to try out for the selective entry exams. The 5 tests are managed by ACER. For some context. I did the exam in the middle of winter (June, 15th). I was prepared the year before and completed tutoring. Getting to the exam venue was difficult. There were hordes of candidates and parents. The traffic was horrendous. There were zones and floors. Since there was about 4000 candidates, the exam procedure was not smooth. The exam was delayed by 30 minutes. The first test was reading comp/english. This test was overall difficult for me as I struggled in reading comp in tutoring. There was reading comp questions, vocab and other questions that were difficult to answer. For me, I don't think I did well. I completed the test on time but was apprehensive. (Difficulty rating 8/10) The second test was math. The math test was ineffably hard. It covered nothing taught in my tutor. The questions were designed to trick you. It tested more on ability rather than achievement. Majority of the questions were problem solving. My friends also thought this test was challenging. I completed it one time with only 3 questions that I guessed. (Difficulty rating 10/10) The third test was verbal reasoning. After the 20 minute break, I felt confident. The verbal test was challenging for me as I did not know much vocab. My word bank was not expansive. The test consisted most of vocab questions and other reasoning type questions. I completed it on time. (Difficulty rating 7/10) The fourth test was quantitative reasoning. This is the same as numerical reasoning. The first 20-35 questions were a breeze. They were extremely easy however, they progressively got harder. Like AMC, the questions were very tricky and involved complex and intricate critical thinking. I completed it on time. (Difficulty rating 5/10) The fifth test was the final test. It was writing. The two prompts related to eachother, both about cinemas and movies. The persuasive prompt was alright but my ability to write persuasively was overpowered. I completed the essay with great confidence. However, my brain could not think for narrative writing. I could not think of any vocab. I struggled and only devoted approx. 15 minutes for that sections. I focused on the essay. (Difficulty 5/10) Overall, the test was hard. This year, there were a lot of candidates. When I stepped into the exam room, I felt nervous. But when I started doing the questions and hearing about how my friends saw many people guessing answers, my confidence was back to normal. I wish I could get into my dream school, Nossal High School, which could help me for my VCE studies. Good luck to anyone who will be taking the test and I hope that whoever took it, can gain entry.

Hi VM Study Guides. I did the selective exam yesterday and it was 45 questions fo numerical reasoning.

Did the exam today and I have to say the test was very surprising. For one, the content was mainly year 7 and some year 8(Still do year 8 and 9 stuff if you want). VR, RC and maths were all pretty easy and VR did not have many vocabulary questions and RC had a bunch of graphs, a few poems and like only ONE passage. QR was very very hard and I guessed like 35 questions and maths was just easy kinda

tip for the structure of the introduction: 1st sentence= Topic sentence, just stretch the topic to make it fit in a singular sentece 2nd sentence= Thesis, state your side of the argument in a sentence Then for about 2-3 senteces describe your points without any persuasive element. PRO TIP: For the first sentence in your introduction try to rephrase- In recent times there has been a fierce debate regarding _____ Then for the body paragraphs, like he mentioned you could just plan it out for indivisual scenario, scocietal scenario and then financial or environmental scenario. The best way to plan this out is by using METSHEETS (money, ethics, technology, saftey, environment, education, time and social realtionships) in your plan. my selective year 9 entry exam is in 3 days( please wish me luck!!!) trynna get in suzzane

Hey VM, also do they put up a live timer in the examination hall? edit: my tutor says 25 min for each writing, while you say 20 min each (40 total), so which one is more accurate?
