Hey guys! I hope you aced the selective exam! I did it too just today. Here's my experience, feel free to share yours I'm interested. Verbal reasoning was the "typical" one, there was nothing interesting about it. I probably got 30-40 out of the 60 questions right, or less but it was very normal. Numerical reasoning was the second hardest, constantly firing an impossible number sequence at you, all I did was try to find the relationship between the numbers but that didn't go well. Writing is...interesting for me, I had to pee mid way so bad, so the writing for the first half was iffy but then I ran off to the bathroom (while everyone was seated!) and returned. The prompt this year was about some forest photographer, who sees a group of "them" run in the bushes. It was very hard, you obviously couldn't write about a herd of animals since that's just too plain, I wrote about a "black charred bullhorn" infecting a normal photographer landing him a hospital trip. It was not my best writing piece but the prompt was so damn restrictive that I'm pretty sure others struggled. Reading comprehension was easiest. I carefully filled out the questions, about 60% were analyzing a cartoon or text, 20% was in identifying correct sentences and the like and the remaining 20% were about general english knowledge (eg which word fits into the sentence) and some mind games to play with you. I finished that with about 5-10 minutes left to go and revised my answers, I'm assuming quite a high score for this one, hopefully. Mathematics was by far the hardest, the test mainly consisted of factorize this involving 3x + 2y and what not, the other one was solving basic numerical reasoning equations, solve for X was in there, there was 1 question on parabolas, so basic stuff but very difficult and I had to guess my way through (educated guess).
i was surprised about verbal reasoning, it was a little different from what I knew it would be. i knew numerical reasoning would be hard so I started working out questions from the beginning rather than guessing all of them. writing was what I expected. maths and reading comprehension were the easiest among all of them. Hoping for the best!!
Math seems to be way easier than last (probably cause of writing) but everything else seems the same. The writing prompt is also quite interesting. Hope you did well!
I'm doing the year 9 selective entry exam this year for Mac Rob! I'm probably going to study a year 10 math textbook and also the year 9 Naplan, for writing I think I'm pretty good but I don't write a lot so that is something I need to improve on also structure, punctuation and word choice (apparently I need to expand my word choices???) I have been told that I have very good ideas so that is a start. I may also practice just reading fast and I'll definitely start reading more books for balance and to gain more skill. Is there anything else I should do? And thank you for sharing your tips and tricks!!! Praying I can pass!

hi i realised i wasted alot of time last year and now i am extremly scared cuz the test is in less than 2 months so does anyone know if because of the change in companies wil the test be harder or easier than previous? am i revising and studying too late now???
Hey, just got a question, I am getting ( in high-quality practice exams) a superior in VR, NR, writing and very good in RC. Do I have a good chance? On the day of the exam, how many toilets are there and approx. how many people attend? BTW you just got three more subs, thanks!
like approx 3000-3600 attend, and some 1000 get a spot, so your odds stand at around 30%, a superior in most subjects is very good in practice exams but I've heard it still does not reflect what you would get in reality and ive heard the toilets have long lines but idk. Maybe you could ask the melbourne showgrounds themselves?
I have a question, is it possible to get into one of the selective schools with zero superiors? I’ve been terrified by people saying that they needed 3 or 4 superiors to get in and I’m pretty sure I got no more than two. My school is not competitive at all (it is super super small and literally no one even knows about the exams), so will I be able to get accepted?

Hey vm, can you make some tips for the year 6 selective test? Theres not much videos online to help me with it and im trying to cramm in all i can before 2023, all these really advanced 9,10, or 11 questions are in this video, so I am kinda lost on what to do.
Ye but you can try to make the sentences longer (not simple sentences). 6-7 is still fine but I think 9 would be too much (you won't be able to finish your piece). Try and make it 8-9 lines.
The main way I practiced for math and other topics was through textbook work. I took a year 10 textbook and worked my way through topics. I also found random online reading comprehension worksheets that also helped improve my skills. There will be more information about this in my next video, so stay tuned!

I'm pretty sure last year it was 4000 people and this year could be more. That is a great score for practice exams but don't get complacent.

Yes it is possible, I know a couple of people with no superiors. I believe the chance is higher since u don't go to a competitive school

Obv do some studying but don't do too much, like 2 hrs MAX. Also use this time to just revise basic things.
