On the day of the exam, are we expected to actually complete all 50/60 questions? How many of the questions do you think you should reach before resorting to pure guessing.
So I think this usually depends on the test that you are doing, because for things like verbal reasoning and reading comprehension, you should definitely try to make sure you have answered 50/60 or 40/50 questions properly before guessing. For maths, on the other hand, you should obviously try to complete as many questions before guessing but doing 40-45/60 without guessing would be considered good.
going for melb high this year, thanks for the video, is helping. Just one suggestion, the music was a bit loud, it was hard to hear what you were saying sometimes. For mathematics, isn't it changing to only year 8 curriculum in 2023???
Hey, how can I remember topics after I’ve learnt them? I work on one topic for a week, then when I do a practice test a month later I forget how to do the topic properly. It’s like my memory is a leaky bucket when it comes to the year 9/10 topics. Pls help.
Man, I am kind of perplexed 🤔. Like could you give me some advice on the test and how you manage everything because I do the test soon and I am really desperate for some helpful info. I’m all ears 👂.
Hey, so mainly its about getting lots of practice for all 5 tests and getting used to the format and types of questions that will come. Also make sure that you can solve all the types of questions quickly and not spend too long for them. For managing everything just do one or two things a day to practice (so about 1-2 hours) and that will make it easier to do everything.
Some of the reading texts will be a cartoon image with a message that it is trying to say. There might be questions that ask you what the cartoon is trying to suggest.
Sorry, I did not see your comment. There are no question papers for the year 10 exam however it is very similar to the year 9 one so you can use those ones to hep you prepare. In fact, some people say that it might be a little bit easier! If you want some extra help, I have some online and affordable tutoring sessions that cover all the content needed. If you would be interested, I am holding classes in Term 2 as well as a Term 1 holiday fast-paced crash course. For the numerical reasoning, do you think that it would be best to guess or try all of them, as you said, they are very difficult since it’s mostly problem solving and puzzles. Would getting less right be better than getting more done? Or the opposite?
You should obviously try and attempt as many as you can since non-attempted ones count as incorrect, but quickly do all the easy questions that you can do in under a minute first and then for the bigger questions, attempt them properly. In my opinion, it's better to get more correct than to have most of the test wrong due to only guessing. But make sure that you do not spend way too long on any one question. Long questions shouldn't be spent more than 3-4 minutes on and short ones should be kept to a max of 1 minute. If it takes longer or seems like it will take longer, then only guess it, otherwise, try and solve it.
Hey, this video was awesome! I'm in year 8 (Vic) and have 3-4 months before the actual exam. I noticed than in the exam, specifically in the 2 reasoning ones 10-20 of the 60 questions tend to be these long worded questions that give you a headache just reading them and trying to figure out the question. Should I more or less guess on these so that I can complete the rest of the 60 questions? Thanks.
I would suggest guessing more on these and focus on completing as many questions as possible. I quickly completed all the normal ones first, and then came back to the worded problems at the end, since they tend to take the longest.
Revise the basic things like formulas, quick time tables, good vocab for writing, etc. and create a plan for working through the test (like for time management)
How can I help myself not get tense in the atmosphere of the test, and what can I do to take less time right now I take about 45 minutes to complete the practice exam, the test is only a month away. Please tell me something that I can do to help myself 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Helloo, I have a question! I believe that I'm quite competent at verbal reasoning and reading comprehension, but I seem to struggle with mathematics. I've been studying and focusing only on mathematics, but should I still try and improve my verbal and reading skills when I usually get around 70-80% for verbal and around 60-70% for reading? The exam is soon, and I'm not sure if I should focus on mathematics only and improve on that or try and improve on the other subjects that I think I'm alright at. Would it just be wasting time? Thanks!
Since math is your struggling point, then do a lot of practice on that (every day do a little bit) but at the same time practice verbal and reading every once in a while (like maybe 2-3 times a week). This is so you don't fall behind on the things you are good at because of not practising.

Just keep on practicing every once in a while, like maybe once very fortnight you test yourself on the topic you're trying to remember
