airfix 1/775 (very old tool!) cutty sark part two
had my first experience with less than perfect starter set acrylic paints in this one! nonetheless I soldiered on using alternatives, including household undercoat!
also, this is a re upload of this video, because it had managed to download itself in some strange custom aspect ratio!

      it certainly is possible, a lot of my builds are older kits from the 70's, and being able to bleach decals is a really handy trick to have at your disposal, just simply leave them in a window (I've sometimes taped them to the glass) preferably one that catches the sun, for as long as it takes to bleach out the yellowing, and you're good to go.

    Hi Phil. A nice looking little kit. Maybe you should have put a light on so that we could see the camoflage a bit clearer. As for the panel line well bearing in mind that it is predominately blue/grey then a darker grey wash would have been better. Black is a bit harsh I think. Just need to buy a decal sheet of swastika's to make it look authentic or maybe you have some in your decal stash. Anyway a nice build, well done. Now its off to the hanger for this one. Good luck.

      yeah I get what you're saying about the light, I took some still photos on a wooden neutral background I made that are a lot clearer and stuck them on the end of the video, as for the panel liner and washes, this kit was genuinely the first time I have used oils on a kit, so so I didn't want to go too bonkers with any of them, I definitely had fun using them, so its just a case of building up my experience and confidence with them.

    Hi Phil. I have built this kit and I know that there is a moulded line on the tail and on the wings too. A man with your talents must surely been able to paint to that line. Those lines are the de-icing boots that were fitted to all American bombers during the war. A little tip for you. If you go to a motor garage where they do tepaints or a motor factors store the sell a tape of various widths which is a very soft kind of plastic. They use it in garages when they need to mask off an area of a car before repainting it. Ask in a garage and they will show it to you so you will know what I mean. I have been dipping in and out of this build and have enjoyed it. So good luck and I look forward to seeing how you get on. Well done bud.

    • @philsmodelmaking2260
      @philsmodelmaking2260 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hello Brian, you're right, there are moulded on lines for the de icing boots on the wings and tailplane, and looking at my example, the rivets do stop on the empennage right where the boot line should be (its what I used to line up the flexi tape in the first place) so I actually shone a light over the tail which does show up an extremely faint line there, it looks like over time the moulds have gotten worn and some detail has been lost, the smaller clear parts have certainly suffered from this, and the larger clear parts have no frame lines whatsoever, as regards the tape, I have about 6 rolls of that auto detailing tape in various widths, i will probably be using some of that on the wings to paint the blue "V" and yellow wing tips. and finally, I'm glad you're enjoying what I'm doing, and I genuinely appreciate your kind words, thanks!

      absolutely! I've really enjoyed building these kits, its something a little different subject wise and the are all nice kits, at the moment though I really need to get other builds finished first, the B 17 and I'm also working on a couple of tribute builds that will be complete videos rather than a series, then I can turn my attention back to these kits.

    That looks real good. I did my de-icing boots by hand. Its quicker and easier. A little tip for you is to watch a signwriter. He uses a stick with a cloth bundle on the end. He then places it near the subject and uses it as a stabiliser for his brush hand. I have nearly finished my version of this aircraft. I might have to revisit the seams, but I will see how bad they are. Good vid and a good build so far.

      thats called a mahl stick, I've been in the decorating trade for forty years, the gaffer's dad when I started, at that point semi retired, had been a champion signwriter at national level just after world war two. I've managed to find some tamiya masking tape for curves I forgot I bought! it will easily bend to match the profile of the tail, I will show its use in my next update
