Jimmy needed a shed in a hurry!
มุมมอง 1112 ปีที่แล้ว
As many of you may or may not know, one of my winter passions is riding snowmobiles in the nearby mountains of Washington State. Accordingly, I belong to a Snowmobile Club. One of my riding partners just sold his house and for the time being moved into one of his rental homes in the city of Olympia. He's down sizing but none the less, he needed extra storage space in a hurry. So like we often d...

Hi Viewers, Well, winter weather has arrived and the time has come to tear down the 1998 Honda Valkyrie F6C GL1500CT motorcycle in order to get it ready for a full restoration with some customizing as well. Further I wanted to show you my new dirt bike, a 2022 Husqvarna FE350S customized by True North Motos. I hope you enjoy this installment of the Valkyrie restoration project. This is part one...
A Video Tour of The Little Bighorn Battlefield
มุมมอง 1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
On the way to the Sturgis Rally I stopped for a day at the battlefield where General Custer met his match in the Valley of the Little Bighorn River, Montana on June 25th, 1876. Custer as we know wildly underestimated his adversaries, a collection of five different Indian Tribes that were off the reservation camped near modern day Hardin, Montana. The Native Americans under Crazy Horse or Curley...
I bought the Big Red 1500 Pound Motorcycle lift! Let's unbox it.
มุมมอง 19K2 ปีที่แล้ว
There are all shapes and sizes of motorcycle lift jacks out there. I needed one that I could use to help me take the motor out of my 1998 Honda Valkyrie. I looked at the Harbor Freight offerings and Amazon, as well as Northern Tool. I have several Big Red bottle jacks and their 20 ton hydraulic press. Those are all nice tools. So, I opted to go with the Big Red 1500 pound MC lift Jack. I got it...
1998 Honda Valkyrie- Clutch Fluid Change, Shifter Buddy Installation, Final Test Rides.

Hi everyone, In this episode we will take the suggestions from the field that we need to "bleed the clutch". So, following the factory manual, we will evacuate and change the DOT4 fluid in the clutch master and slave cylinders, and vacuum bleed it to ensure no air is in the system. Then, we will install a Shifter Buddy shift linkage support device on the shifter. Lastly we will do some final te...

In this episode, the new vapor blaster has arrived. This machine is going to be used to clean and polish parts on the 1998 Honda Valkyrie which I bought to restore and customize. The bike is rough so we will spend the next several episodes taking it apart, cleaning and polishing and getting it ready for new custom paint and chrome. The vapor polisher will need to be fitted with castors so I can...
Test Riding the 1998 Honda Valkyrie GL1500CT Tourer
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The day has arrived. It's time to test ride the Valkyrie to see what needs to be done during the upcoming restoration. In this video we will ride rural farm roads and give the bike a complete going over. By day's end we will have covered 192 miles visiting several historic rural towns in Western Washington State. The motorcycling here is as good as it gets. Come take a ride on the Valkyrie!
My DIY Garage Compressed Shop Air System

Restoration/Modification 1998 Honda Valkyrie Motorcycle- Parts and Concept Episode 3

    Great video, noticed the air bags, what brand are they ? One thing i see that may be wrong is the caliper slide pin bolts torque spec. late 90s early 2000s they made the calipers in front of axle, according to manual those are 46 ft. lbs. If you have calipers on the rear of axle the torque spec is 27 ft. lbs. I checked and rechecked. all in all a good man and appreciate the video fully. also I dont have any lithium grease to hold spring in seal, can I use transmission green assembly goo ?

      I think any grease wold be fine. If you have a tube of Sil-Glide (available at O'Reillys), that would be best. I got the Torque from the factory service manual. My truck is a 2021. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      A point well taken, I guess old habits are hard to break. There are even some people claiming ELC in a 7.3 will cause serious damage. I can't see how that could be unless it was not cooling properly. I've been running the same Red ELC I installed when I made this video 3 years ago and everything is just fine. I pull a 30 foot toy hauler and several other trailers and it runs beautifully. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @usethenoodle
      @usethenoodle หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've tried shifting it every which way. I've even ridden a few others, and they were fine. There is a transmission issue. I'll get to the bottom of it. I have a known good engine/trans I'll be putting in it. Then I'll tear down this engine. We'll see what we find. I'm betting it has a bent shift fork. I just finished moving to a new home in the country and after 2 years, my new shop is finished. I'll be back making videos very soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I ended half way through the passenger side.. in my defense, I'm doing things right.. but this video is one I wish I would have watched before. I like how you put all the explanation and content. I did this in a farm shop and thought no big deal, been doing custom wiring for years. This sucks, I'm watching for a refresher, but I'm with ya man!

    • @BigCatChuck
      @BigCatChuck 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, remember this kit does nothing to help your alternator pass current to the batteries themselves so it's by far from a complete kit, I regret wasting money on mine. This winter will tell, but I'm thinking they made every cable too long so I had to cut and redo the ends on most of them anyways.

    • @usethenoodle
      @usethenoodle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BigCatChuck Yes, it does sort of suck, Lol. I didn't experience the extra cable length issue. Per the video, it fit my truck close to factory. They have performed very well these past two years. I'll always remember laying under that truck that night hooking up the line to the starter which is a blind bitch, dark out, truck half in the garage, pouring rain and wind howling, fussing with the camera and lighting. Man. The ice cold rain water was pouring down the fender liner and running right down my neck. But, not to be deterred, we got it done. I sold my house from that time and I bought a place in the country, a small ranch and I have a huge shop now. I've been remodeling and finishing it out to my standard. This is why I haven't produced any videos for almost 2 years. I haven't sat down yet. But I'm close to getting the shop done finally. 18' ceilings was all unsheathed and unfinished. 1/2 wired. I had to buy a used scissor lift. My truck lives inside now as does my 30' toy hauler. I walled off and I'm finishing the workshop portion of it this week. I just installed a mini split heat pump and AC unit in there. Built cabinets. A steel work table. Installed an interior roll up door for access. I built a total shop air system, with my compressor out in it's own building. It's been a busy 18 months. We'd been at the old place over 30 years so, moving and cleaning out was a chore. I'm amazed what I accomplished in a well organized but packed residential 2 car garage at the old place. Thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know how it goes. Warmest Regards.

    I hadn't watched this until two years after you posted it, but I hope to blazes you didn't split those cases looking for a second gear problem! That's how mine's shifted all the time I've had it. I've always shifted early 1st to 2nd to make it smoother but it is clunky. I don't worry a whole lot about it now. I own one in Ballarat, Australia and regularly ride on The Great Ocean Road which is the best set of twisties in the country. The Valk will out-handle many newer, smaller bikes and is an absolute hoot! I hope you hang onto her for a long time.👍

    • @usethenoodle
      @usethenoodle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there Mr Monty and a big Hello from America! OK, here's the deal. I was dismantling this motorcycle in my videos. Right in the middle of that, out of the blue, I located a house in the country with a huge but unfinished shop, acreage and a custom home. My wife and I dropped what we were doing and sold our house. We bought the property in the country. That was March 2023. Since then, we have both worked like dogs to bring the new place up to standard. There was much to do and I have taken little days off from it. We are almost there. The shop is now almost done. It has an office, a storeroom, 2 large RV sized parking stalls and a 17X27 foot work shop. I am in the process of walling that off from the stalls so I can heat and cool it. The wall will have a man door, a window looking out into the stalls and a rollup door for bringing things (like large motorcycles) into the workshop where my bike lift now lives. I've had to do lots to finish it out as it was almost entirely unfinished inside. I had to hang OSB sheathing up on the 18 foot ceilings and walls. Wiring, miles of painting, a small building outside to house my hugh loud air compressor. A shop air system, cabinets and work benches. Lots needed to be done and no time for the Valk. But, I just installed a Mini Split heat pump in there and it's time to wall it off so I can heat and cool the workshop. I have all the building materials staged and I hope to begin the final chapter, the wall this week. Then I can bring the bike over from my other garage on the house and get back to it. I agree it's a really fun bike to ride. I'm looking forward to getting back to it. My trans grinds though. Early 1-2 shifting is the key but I believe there is some damage in this trans. I have obtained a known good engine from a parts house that I plan to use. Then I plan to go through the original engine and yes, split the cases. I firmly believe there is an issue beyond the nature of the beast argument a lot of people have made. I appreciate your watching and commenting. At some point I'll resume the video series as I go along. I have 2 other street bikes. An Indian Chieftain and a Victory Vegas 8-Ball to ride in the mean time. Best Regards. By the way I have been to Australia, lovely place. Craig

    What kind of fluid was used?

  • @RetirednbrokeinPa
    @RetirednbrokeinPa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Using those 3M roloc disks are a no-no. The abrasive from the disks ends up in all the nooks and crannies that you can’t get a rag into. Then it eventually mixes with the lubricant and wears out your gears, bearings, and shafts. Silicone gasket maker is a moderate pain in the ass but is relatively soft and not all that difficult to remove with a razor scraper. Since you aren’t working flat rate and it is your own vehicle speed is not of prime importance. Those roloc disks are bad juju. Many engine rebuilders require an oil analysis on failed engines and refuse to warranty anything that has evidence of those disks in the oil. Just a bit of friendly advice from a retired ASE Master Tech who learned the hard way.

      Enjoy! I'll restart making videos of this one soon. I moved to it halted my progress for a year plus while I finish my new workshop.

    Only 2 hoses that have to come off the tank. The hose that goes to the back of the petcock can be remove by taking it off from the last or back carburetor plenum area on left side of bike. Just remember to route it again as you reset tank on the bike.

    Great video, thanks! You reference the adjustment window plastic device near the bell but I may have missed it, I don’t see you using that. How do you use that? Should you use that to make the measurements? What is it for? Thank you in advance

    Thank you! I successfully removed my tank and checked the air filter. Now ready to install a new petcock and put the tank back on. Enjoyed your patience and wording " a bit of a wrestling match" with removing the two hoses from the petcock (which it was!), "hunt for a few threads" when reinstalling the fuel tank, etc.

    Thank you so much for this. I’ve got a 600 tenere 55W, do you know if I need to empty the oil before opening it up like this? Havn’t got a workshop so don’t want a flood around the apartments.. Thank you!!

    Out of curiosity, where can we dispose of all of that coolant? I want to do a full flush on my 99, but don’t know what to do with it afterwards.

      Usually a landfill has a hazmat recycling center. You can take it there for free in most cases. They will see it gets handled properly. They will take old gasoline and solvents too.
