- In this episode of the Craig Miller Channel we will change the lubricant in the front differential of my 2001 Ford F-250 Superduty 4x4 pickup. We will cover what you'll need to do this service, the basic tools required and how the procedure is done according to the factory service manual.
This video is intended for entertainment purposes. If you are not comfortable doing work on you own vehicle, please hire the services of a qualified mechanic.

Hey, Anytime Brother. I'm really glad the information helped you out. If you own one of these trucks, I have several DIY 99/03 7.3 Diesel Superduty stuff on the channel that may also be of interest and save you tons of money in service work if you don't mind getting a little dirty. I appreciate the comment! Regards, Craig
@@usethenoodle Am notoriously bad at responding to TH-cam comments. Will endeavor to more at your vids. Carry on!
Great in depth video 👍👍
Thanks Chuck. Happy to help!
Using those 3M roloc disks are a no-no. The abrasive from the disks ends up in all the nooks and crannies that you can’t get a rag into. Then it eventually mixes with the lubricant and wears out your gears, bearings, and shafts. Silicone gasket maker is a moderate pain in the ass but is relatively soft and not all that difficult to remove with a razor scraper. Since you aren’t working flat rate and it is your own vehicle speed is not of prime importance. Those roloc disks are bad juju. Many engine rebuilders require an oil analysis on failed engines and refuse to warranty anything that has evidence of those disks in the oil. Just a bit of friendly advice from a retired ASE Master Tech who learned the hard way.
@@RetirednbrokeinPa thanks. Ya, they don’t work any way. I don’t use them anymore.
is that pump frothing the oil? Sure looks like it has a different color/consistancy on the output side. I could be wrong and maybe its the lighting..
I hadn't noticed. It may to some degree. Honestly, rather than that pump, I have a 200 cc syringe which is easier to use. The drill operated transfer pump is OK on some things but the big syringes on Amazon are easier to use. See my transfer case service video.

Perfect video for my 01 leaking front differential …did you use gasket sealant or is it not required?
If you put the wrong fluid type in and it starts to make a humming noise. Would draining it bone dry and putting the correct fluid in make that noise stop?
What did you put in?
@@usethenoodle80-90 fluid
@@guardindian4infinity445 You might want to change it per my video.
@@usethenoodle I did flush it but gears are worn out, so I'll need to replace them.
…and is there a torque setting for drain plug?
