Your films are very good, but I have to ask: why did you change the formula in the 1980s to include Castor Wax? This addition is unnecessary and should not be in oil paint, as it damages the painting over time. If I wanted to add Castor Wax, I would buy it separately or use cheaper paints like Lefranc Louvre oils.

❤❤ Please do more of these great videos ❤.
Wonderful!!
Thanks for another video. These are two interesting colours to compare. I like Scheveningen Blue even though I cannot pronounce it.
'Welcome in the comment section of the Old Holland TH-cam channel. Which Blue do you prefer, King's or Scheveningen Blue? and why?'
The blue i usually have on my pallet (with acrylics from Michael's art store) are Ultramarine blue Prussian/Indanthrone blue Phthalo blue Ultramarine for sky's and violets Prussian/Indanthrone for darks Phthalo for water
A beautiful demonstration, thank you Old Holland! 🔹🩵🔹 Personally I feel a preference for the Scheveningen Blue for its clean and bright hue; as you say a more green based blue, which I personally would find more useful on my own palette of colours. Beautiful, thank you very much for providing these most inspiring Artists' oil colours! 👏🏼✨🥇✨😃
For those who dont know, kings blue light and deep is ultramarine blue and scheveningen blue light is scheveningen blue and white Ultramarine blue is a synthetic version of the rare and expensive historic lapis lazuli Scheveningen blue is a modern synthetic color and is normally called phthalo blue or "brand name" blue Kings blue light/deep leans twords red/violet because of the ultramarine (warm blue) Schevengen blue light leans twords green/turquoise because of the schevevingen blue Ultramarine blue: PB29 Scheveningen blue: PB15/16 I hope this information helps. Thank you
Pls upload more often
Also do y'all have some samples or damaged tubes of paint?
Thnx for following our channel! More video's coming!
Hi, we do not have samples or damaged tubes of paint.
@@oldhollandclassiccolours2759no worries. It doesn't hurt to ask. Also can y'all pin my other comment if y'all like it?
@@oldhollandclassiccolours2759quick question If I try y'all's paints and like them, could y'all and I do a conversation with some businesses about a custom set(s) with y'all, but my selection of colors? I think that would be cool But I'm not telling y'all what to do. The main reason I am asking is because when I start to teach, they will be able to buy my selection of colors instead of several colors and being confused
That is hypnotizing
Thanks...👍
Welcome 😊

I love your channel. ❤

❤please do more like this please!!
Wonderfully clear tutorial. Thank you
Very helpful comparison!
I think I will replace my cad red by the this red earth. For landscape. For figure and portrait I do fine with both Venetian and English reds and occasional Indian red as well
thank you so much..
The paint looks like silk beautiful ❤.
Lovely reviews thank you please keep them coming
Red Earth is PR112-PY42-PR102, so of course it will be lighter and more saturated, you just mixed napthol red and yellow ochre. My vote would be the English Red 100%
Excellent video! 😊
4:18 Just replace the Cadmium with any lightfast series 1 red color like WN Bright Red (PR254) and there you go. Cheap, reliable, series 1 big tubes of red paint ready to be used. You are welcome!
Great video! Difficault choice sometimes! However you can enjoy both, adding a touch of ULt. Blue if needed to your ivory black.
How would Raw Sienna differ from Yellow Ochre, would I need a Raw Sienna alongside Yellow Ochre or Mars Yellow? Is your Burnt Sienna PBr7 or PR101? I kinda like the orangey PR101 a bit more.
Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue is great all around black that allows for temperature adjustment.
So useful. I’m doing a course where we are using a limited palette of ochre and black and white and also alternatively cad orange and Ultramarine. I think I will try using the paynes grey after seeing this as my black. Cheers
Thank you for this series.
Keep following our channel!
Burnt Umber will oxidize and change color when it dries. It will get chalky look...loose any transparencey...change value and saturation. Oiling out or varnish will bring back the qualities of when the paint was wet. Even with linseed oil the paint oxidizes. It's maddening and I would just about throw it out of pallette line up but it's so useful I keep it. Burnt Umber and Ult BLue make fantastic black that can be cooled or warmed to what you want.
Me gustaría que hubiese subtítulos en español. No sé inglés pero ustedes venden sus productos aqui
Thank you so much for your wonderful teaching on these colors. I appreciate it very much 😊😊
Paynes grey and prusian blue are my must have
I am confused as many say proffesional.artists does not use black in they palete
Aaaa!!! Quero vivir allí!!!!❤❤❤
What is the second color he mixed with.blues?
@evelinam.5835 It is Old Holland Yellow Deep. A Bright and opaque Off-White.
u are my favorite channel
Thank you ZahranJamil!
Nice to hear!
I've just received Raw umber, green cadmium deep and english red.
For sunlight hitting objects, do I use cad medium or lemon?
It depends ❤
Pls upload more
Thank you @louiswolfe5012, we will do just that. But our pace is somewhat slow.
@@LennaertKoorman Question Can I be sent some stuff for a project pls
@@louiswolfe5012 Thats not up to me, please request it at Old Holland directly. When I post their email here, my post is being removed, but you can easily find it on the Old Holland website. Good Luck!
Beautiful Colours ❤
Today I learned that glazing is not just for pottery! The example at 0:28 is interesting. To me it still looks pretty opaque. Wouldn't applying this to a painting cover the layer underneath it?
Not if you use some medium to thin it
@jeanbigboute, good to hear you learned something from the video! Thanks for your feedback. Glazing can be used in many different opacities, depending on your wishes. When applying a more opaque layer, so that the painting underneath is only just visible, the glazing layer is usually still worked wet on wet. With subtler glazing layers you can indeed work much more transparently and softly. Then it usually just involves adding a different color temperature or depth.
@@LennaertKoorman Thanks! I'll have to look out for all this next time I'm in a museum. So much going on "under the surface"...
Great video as usual from y’all
@Rockheadsling Thanx!
