Yellowstone Hikes Slightly Off The Beaten Path
I love hiking and exploring new places and seeing new things, but I am a nervous nelly when it comes to nature and wildlife, especially in Yellowstone where it feels like we are living in a form of Jurassic Park. These 4 hikes / bikes were great places to get away from the crowds and see some beautiful Yellowstone sights, and weren't too remote so I felt a little better, but they are still in wildlife habitat and some are even in Bear Management areas, so i was still a little nervous, but for whatever reason felt better that we were still close to really busy tourist areas, not that the bears here seem to care. Just remember to always follow bear safety no matter how busy the area is or isn't.

Yellowstone - Tour of East Upper Loop Dunraven Pass
มุมมอง 11Kปีที่แล้ว
We have been taking RV road trips to Yellowstone every fall for the last 3 years, and during those first 2 years we explored so much of the park...except for the upper east portion of the Grand Loop Road, the Dunraven Pass which had been closed for construction. We finally had our chance when it reopened in 2023 and I was so excited to finally see that area of the park and i was especially exci...

    • @scheduledadventures
      @scheduledadventures หลายเดือนก่อน

      You really can’t go wrong with either, there are so many good spots to watch sunrise and sunset in the park it’s really hard to choose the best, but if I absolutely had to…I would probably pick sunrise.

      @scheduledadventures how do you find the best sunrises and sunsets? Any ideas we are going here and Yellowstone

    • @scheduledadventures
      @scheduledadventures หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the Tetons are interesting because sunrise and sunset locations are pretty much the same because the mountains are the pretty focal point for both, the one exception is Mormon Row which is better for sunrise. So the places we like for both sunrise and sunset are Oxbow Bend, Schwabacher Landing, and Snake River Overlook. We had a harder time with sunrises and sunsets in Yellowstone just because we were limited on time so we had to get right into our days. Artist Point is one of the most popular sunrise spots but I bet sunset would be good too, We have seen really pretty sunrises at West Thumb Basin with the turquoise pools and the lake in the background. We don’t catch too many sunsets but I would think most of the geysers basins like Old Faithful would be a good location. Not sunrise or sunset related but the Grand Prismatic overlook is best in the mid afternoon on a clear day, when the sun is directly overhead it brings more of the colors of the pool out.

    Funny you mentioning the hikes seem tougher due to the altitude, we come from the seacoast of NH and when we went to Bryce Canyon, just walking up some of the look outs had us wiped out. Going from sea level to 8000' makes a huge difference, plus being out of shape didn't help.

    • @scheduledadventures
      @scheduledadventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it’s something I didn’t even consider before this trip. I thought I was in decent shape walking and lifting weights at home, but the elevation on what are labeled easy hikes said otherwise. 😊

    You did a lot of rides! Especially the first couple of hours. Did you pay extra for genie plus or did you just wait in the standby lines?

    • @scheduledadventures
      @scheduledadventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We were actually there after they reopened from Covid and before they introduced Genie+ so it was all standby and the lines were short all day long. Their Genie+ system really makes it more complicated and the wait times much longer. I don’t think we got the Disney quality durning that time but I do really appreciate that we were able to skip the Genie+ mess and were able to ride all the rides very easily.

I remember eating at Soups in Milton and going to (Cowgirls?) after the other bars closed. our apartment was off Eraste Landry and we'd take a keg to the pool on a Saturday. Pretty soon people were showing up with grills, food, music and everything else. It was a great time.

    What is the name of the app you used? And did you have a problem getting reception to use it?

    • @scheduledadventures
      @scheduledadventures 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are 3 apps that I have tried, Just Ahead, Guide Along, and Shaka Guide. They are all similar, each guide just has a different personality, and the stories very just slightly. I like Guide Along the best, he is a perfect mix between the other two. Just ahead is very dry, just gives you the basic information with no personality, the Shaka Guide woman is a little over the top like an kindergarten teacher you would see in a movie, but she did grow on me. Guide Along tells informative stories with a few dad jokes, and I have purchased their other tours for other national parks as well. Reception isn’t an issue for the apps because you download them before entering the parks when you have Wi-Fi and then the gps works without any cell service, I don’t know the exact technology of it, but you don’t loose reception from the tour. Hope this information helps.

    Twice now my wife and I have visited Nashville from New Zealand. We have a third trip planned for May 2024 and another visit in October 2025 for the Opry’s centenary. Two other places you may have found interesting. Fort Neagly on Nashville’s southern ridge will give a much different understanding of the events of the Civil War, and Andrew Jackson’s Hermatige is a time capsule of America’s 7th President. Both are worth a visit.

      Thank you. If you have room to bring bikes it might be a good idea, it will make some of the “hikes” shorter and if your kids are like mine they can get a little grumpy on long hikes, and there are quite a few bike trails in Yellowstone including at Old Faithful as well as a bike path in the Grand Tetons that we haven’t done yet but would love to do one day.
