    So it has to fly over the bridge, drop onto the landing strip and stop just before it goes into the drink. Someone was having fun when they decided to build that runway there.

    I reckon whoever wasn't flying the takeoff pulled their seat forward too far and accidentally stamped on the rudder to push themself back.

    Sweet bloody Jesus that’s short for a 737. 5500ft is already feeling a touch skimpy, but these guys made this postage stamp look like it was 10,000ft long.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      It’s really not that big of an issue. Weirdly enough, people always worry about the landing, but it’s the takeoff that’s the real issue. The airplane can land in less than 2500 feet of ground roll. For takeoff, with engine failure, it needs every inch of that runway.

    • @JM87Fly
      @JM87Fly 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 yeah, that’s fair. Of course the performance numbers generally assume about 1500ft of air distance to touch down, so that gets you pretty comfortably to 4000ft and leaves little margin. Yeah, it can be done, but I personally find myself focusing just that little bit harder on runways less than 5000ft or so. Couldn’t agree more re takeoff - I want every damned inch available should a donk go after V1.

    • @BarkingLondon
      @BarkingLondon 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@rtbrtb_dutchy41832,500ft?? Suppose if it’s light & got the short stop kit built in. Ryanair stopped theirs at Southend around the 3,500ft mark if that far. Take off from a 6,000ft runway up in about 4,500ft of it fully packed & with a good tank of fuel. STOL kit & apparently slightly more powerful engines. Must be amazingly powerful to pull that trick off. Saying that a light Boeing 757 I’ve seen up in 11 seconds & around 3,000ft runway. Stopped in slightly less than that light on landing. Amazing stuff.

    • @WBTravels
      @WBTravels 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Ok it for a normal 737 is impossible, because of this boeing created the short Field Performance kit, which updates each engines by 3000+ pounds of thrust more, adds 3 more breaks. The flaps can also drop to 65* instead of 45, and the speedbrakes take 1.2 seconds to deploy instead of 3.8, allowing the 737 800 to land on incredibly short runways, safely, and with ease!

    It's short coupled, wide fuselage seemed to make the rudder ineffective in the flare. A bush pilot in Anchorage agreed. It needs stall fences and training wheels.

  • @Fidd88-mc4sz
    @Fidd88-mc4sz 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    I was afraid this sort of thing would happen. Back in the very late 90's, as the last of Cold War pilots were coming into civil aviation, the airlines were paring the commercial syllabus for flight training to the bone and beyond. I was ordered to cease training side-slip, and many other aspects required for light aircraft flight, but inapplicable to jet transport were removed. The up-shot of all this a reduction in hand-flying skills. This take-off was likely a cross-wind take-off, with the wind from the left. So, he'd have had a touch of aileron to the left, and a little right-rudder to maintain the centre-line. He ceased holding the right rudder, but over-corrected putting it into a sudden yaw to port. This was compounded by weather-cocking and the aileron to roll v slightly left, all of which would have caused the violent yaw to port. This is what happens when pilots have inadequate hand-flying skills.
