I'd love to fly on a 747, let alone in the cockpit! Doing a bit of planespotting a few weeks ago and a 747-400 taxies right next to me. I could FEEL the engines!
Yes, I heard you say that it can be up to twice as long in a hot & high airport. For the last 40+ years I have timed takeoffs on my flights in short and long-haul jets and about 30 seconds is typical. The one in the video is about 35 seconds from roll to rotate.
@@karhukivi But in the video it's a relatively empty 744. I operated A343s rammed to the rafters. It took every inch of paved surface to get the wheels to unstick on some take-offs I can tell ya. P🍀
@@PetetheIrishPilot I had one flight to Johannesburg in a 747 back in the 80s, and always remember it was the smoothest landing I ever experienced, I couldn't tell when the wheels touched. I was taught by "Darby" and I'll bet you know who that was! We had one Rallye with a different prop to the others and one evening I took up two rather large friends in it and I thought it was never going to unstick. I was on the point of aborting when finally it lifted off. Didn't repeat that mistake. Thanks again for the video!

Well there are still some pax versions in service across a variety of carriers. Try and snag a seat if ya get a chance. P🍀
Just 5 seconds longer than at sea level. Never realised how high Johannesburg was - higher than Denver!
I think ya might have misheard me as it's longer than 5 seconds more than sea level. Thanks for your message. P🍀

Do you have any footage of your flying?
I was wondering earlier if you could give commentary on one of your landings 😅
@@bdc7931 Or let someone else do the commentary! hahah Kelsey from 74Gear perhaps?
Sadly not - sorry. Thanks for getting in touch. P
