Victorinox 84mm Watch Opener / Vintage Tinker Small
i have a few, but i rotate my EDC between a Spartan, pioneer, and deluxe tinker. thanks for the video!
Take the Handyman. Put an inline philips driver instead of the can opener. There we have the perfect SAK.
The Sportsman pairs great with a 58mm model with a pen, Phillips and scissors (Manager, etc.). I actually prefer that combo to a Compact, and it only weighs 10g more.
My five favorite SAKs for now are the Evolution 11, Super Tinker, Handyman, Explorer, and the Compact. I edc the Evo 11 and have a classic sd on the keychain.
I’ve carried a Handyman since I was 15, joined the British Army at 16, retired at 40 and now work as an engineer, I’m 51 and I’ve taken it everywhere..
Another SAK video find just in time for the Christmas season. I like the handyman. Thumbs up and subscribed
I have an old "fisherman" with a different shaped can opener. It is more angled in shape, and the sharp edge is on the outer leading edge. Looking for replacement covers and lanyard ring.
I have what looks like a climber it has all the tools but it has no toothpick and no tweezers spots in the scales so am I thinking right is it an old climber
My favorite one is the delemont it's a lot like that last one with the Philips screwdriver instead of a wine cork opener but it also has the bottle opener with a flat head

I have a few Swiss army knife's and, for me the phillip's screwdriver on the front side of the knife is a must as an everyday carry knife. For hiking and camping not so much.
is it just me or is this the first "my favorite SAKs" video I've seen that didn't include the Compact lol
SAK Swiss Champ or Handyman--one of the great dilemmas of the modern world.
I have both but the inline phillips is so handy. The Swiss Champ has it all. I use the Victorinox 91m pouch
Everything is a Spartan at heart
I recently bought a Swiss army knife it looks like Spartan but it has scissors but no tooth or tweezers can you tell me what model I have please
Sounds like a Traveller
@swissarmydan9354 I thought it might have been an old climber
@@ronaldhuggins4603 i’m actually mistaken, the Traveller is a climber without the key ring. Intermittently over the years models have been released without the toothpick and tweezers. So you’re probably right.
@swissarmydan9354 thank you

Thanks Dan, just curious to ask your opinion on dating a knife with 11 tools, “VICTORIA OFFICER SUISSE” one one side tang with crossbow through Victoria, “VICTORINOX SWITZERLAND STAINLESS ROSTFREI” on the other side of the tang, no hole in the reamer tool, 5 turns on the cork screw which has a black groove, centimetres one one side of the fish scaler tool and inches on the other side, steel spring scissors tool. No other markings on any of the blades/tools, no visible rivets, just the shield cross under the classic red. Happy to go onto more detail if interested
if macgyver had the swisschamp, he'd make short work of all his villains, shorter episodes and get farther faster.
The Sildier in your byrth year can bee hard to find but it is nice if you find it and can show it off to others.
Love you, rambling!
I would choose the rambler if I only carried a 58mm. A step up from that would be a cadet or a sportsman.
i havent been watching you with anticipation since 20...what 17? 18?
Thanks Dan - always enjoy your videos! Calm talk about the best pocket tools.
I picked up a wenger traveler recently. Used, the blade is very scratched up .I polished it pretty good. I do like it nice size an enough tools. Maybe see if is good for pocket carry
The Compact is my favourite pocket knife & I have a Classic SD on my key ring. Both are really useful - I just can’t work out why the compact is so expensive compared to other models with 3 layers & more tools??
I use my grandpa's 1945 Union machinist's tool chest to store knives. I love that box you received. Very cool wife!
I started with a Huntsman, moved up to the Ranger, and even carried a Classic SD along with it just for the nail file since the Ranger’s file is too rough for nails. Finally I realized my daily needs can all be met with just the Climber. So for about a year now a Climber with plus scales has been my EDC knife. I added the screwdriver to the corkscrew and also the stainless pin so my knife is loaded out with all that it will hold. I also keep a larger 111mm Forester in the truck and use it at work outside.
My tinker went missing. 😢 I replaced it with a new spartan. It's too nice to carry. I think it's new old stock cause it has an older tang stamp. I have a beat up wenger comander I'm gonna use.
I just ordered a older long thin single layer ice pick type tool only.?
Im only just starting a collection. I have a champion c .i just ordered what i think is a champion b .there are so many variations that it makes for a fun hobby. Thanks for the valuable info.
Art.
This was a really cool video. I’m a recent collector from 🇧🇷 and I’m still finding my ground. I love special editions, but I also feel that SAKs are to be used, because it is the utmost way to respect a tool. For me it started with a Climber that my dad gave me some 27 years ago but only now I started collecting them and a Soldat (Wenger version of the Soldier) that I got as a gift in 2004. I try to improve my collection with significant SAKs and also trying to get discontinued models before they become difficult to get. I was “monitoring” a Wengerinox for sale and after your video, I just bought it straight away! Now I have to look for an Old Cross! 😂 Thanks and keep doing these awesome videos!!
I like both but am now just getting into some Alox models. I just got a Alox Pioneer X in yesterday. Going to give that one a whirl for a while. My current faves, which changes quite a bit, is the Climber and Cybertool Small. I gifted my son a Cybertool Medium and Super Tinker. Gifted both my son and daughter a Classic SD a few years ago when both went off to college. They didn't think the Classic SD would get used but came home between semesters and said they used it quite a lot, especially the scissors. I had to sharpen the blade on my daughter's one, just a touch up because she uses it a lot for package opening. I have relatives in Four Corners Arizona on the Rez there. Met them in June of this year. Maybe one day ill make it out that way. Furthest I've been is Texas. Have family on reservations in Oklahoma too. Haven't been there yet either. All cousins. Hope all is well. Still come back here from time to time to watch some of your videos, when I have the time. Take care.
Swiss champ will cover all 5 Swiss army knifes its the flagship
Great video!! The Executive is a great combination of size and capabilities. It is very gentlemanly, and if I expect to need bottle/can openers, I can back it up with a wallet ninja or other card-size multi-tool. I always like to have scissors, so when I go spartan/sportsman/tourist etc, I back them up with a classic alox or even a swisscard. Double carry is the way to go. If you are not a SAK expert, what does that make us?? 😅😅😅
Great collection! There is something about the 84mm models that can’t be explained easily. They have the same capabilities of the 91mm models but in a slightly more compact frame, and they feel “mignon” in the hand. I have a 1986 small climber that I treasure a lot, and I always enjoy carrying the 2 layer models, especially the sportsman and tourist (and the tinker small). There is also always a bantam in my wallet and the waiter was my go-to wine opener at home. Ironically, the one I carry the less is the cadet, probably because I only have special editions. I have to get a “vanilla” one to beat up. Felix Immler has a video showing how to open space for the pen in the scales. Check it out.
The BEST !!!!😂
The ultimate ultralight Victorinox in my opinion is the Excelsior Smooth Alox: 2 blades, 21g and only 5mm thick!
If you looking on the back side of the older version, you will see, that there is no middle layer like on the new one. That´s the reason that it is bigger.
I think we have your wife to thank for the recent series of SAK videos ? her purchase of the new storage box for you seems to have inspired you. If this is true thank her for us and keep it up.
Good video!😊 If the Handyman has the in-line phillips that the Swisschamp does, it would be perfect & I'd pick one up in a New York minute....
Great video! I check all those boxes but one. I don't have an old cross SAK, but I do have a couple of soldiers, a vintage, a "weird", and a LE alox. Lately I've been digging the 111mm a lot. I recently bought a Dual X Pro, a Hunter XS, an Adventurer and a Sentinel.
Thanks, Dan. Your videos are always interesting. Best wishes.
anyone try using the wenger can opener to carve the bowl of a spoon??
HiDan, there isnt.much weirder than.the Baker's knife, or maybe the florsistd knives! They definitely don't scream Victorinox, thats for sure Take care Graham
Great review. I like money clip best. It was a sad day when it got discontinued 😢
You ought to get that price tag removed. Hope it doesn't stain or cause reaction to the plastic. I mean it doesn't matter, but it will just remind you how bad decision it was not to remove the sticker in the first place,
