Greetings viewers, these are some of my video recordings of birds. They are not professional recordings, but I believe they do give a reasonable impression of what I saw and enjoyed.
Renowned US author Jonathan Franzen once said: "It was one of the great revelations in my life: that there was a hidden world that had been invisible to me but present in plain sight for 40 years. It was just incredible" That sums up quite well my own experience. Now it is time to catch up!
In the British magazine Bird Watching Ceri Levy quoted the mantra of one of his birding mentors Jim Lawrence of BirdLife International: "You either have an appointment with the bird or you don't". So true! Some of my video's reflect that often I did not have an appointment but pushed for a meeting nevertheless 😉

American Golden Plover [very rare] - Amerikaanse Goudplevier [zeer zeldzaam]
An adult summer plumage American Golden Plover (Pluvialis dominica) was seen yesterday at Peazemerlannen (Friesland, The Netherlands) and luckily it was still there today. It could very well be the bird that was seen earlier this month on the island Texel, but it is not the one seen earlier this month in the Bantpolder, Lauwersmeer, which is much closer by however. Anyway, it is a huge upgrade compared to my first observation of an American Golden Plover in 2019. I'm very happy about the views I was granted by this beautiful bird.
It was very windy (as always at the coast), so I added some music again: Embrace by Sappheiros.

Birds I filmed in the Netherlands in June 2024: - Whinchats - Eurasian Golden Orioles (While I was filming one, apparently another one was right above me in a tree. I got started by its loud alarm call, which was followed -I am not pulling your leg- by some droppings that fortunately fell on the body of my camera, missing my head by not more than an inch! And then it was followed by another cal...

White-tailed Eagles talon lock, Bee-eater & Barn swallows up close
More footage of birds one can see in the Netherlands in May. Birds in this video: - White-tailed Eagles, at 1:56 one can see the two birds in a talon lock, which is part of their courtship (at 2:08 a slow motion rerun of it can be seen) - European Bee-eater, a rare bird in the Netherlands, it is even a rare breeding bird nowadays. I have seen this species many times in Spain, but I was super ha...

White-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) are growing in numbers in the Netherlands. They scare the hell out of the geese. The two eagles in this video were filmed in De Onlanden, Drenthe, The Netherlands, on April 7, 2024. In the first part of the video you can see the first bird flying over. At 2:20 you can see the second one joining. They grap each other by the talons and do a "Daredevil Ca...

A Sunday morning at Prospect Park, Brooklyn [USA 2024]
On the morning of May 5, I went to Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It was a race against the clock, because of loads of rain coming towards Long Island. My target were the Ovenbird and the Black-throated Blue Warbler, which I managed to see luckily. The Cape May Warbler was an unexpected bonus. This park is a great place full of birds. I wish I could have stayed there longer.
Saturday bird walk [USA 2024]
On May 4, I went on bird walk on Long Island, which was quite informative and nice. The highlight of the tour would be the Eastern Screech Owl, but it did not show. Luckily I saw it a few days later, as could be seen in an earlier video. After the bird walk, I went to a place where a Tricolored heron had been reported. I managed to find it, but it stayed at a large distance. Next I went to the ...

A Sunday morning in Central Park, warblers, racoons, etc [USA 2024]
Spring migration brings many nice birds to Central Park, NYC. As I have done before, I went on a bird walk on the Sunday morning after arriving in the US. It was a bird walk organized by Birding Bob. He is a very dedicated birder that knows the birds and their behavior extremely well. He uses sounds to attract the birds, which is somewhat of a contentious issue. Personally I think he is right t...
Piping plovers [USA 2024]
The cute, near-threatened Piping plover (Charadrius melodus) can be seen at beaches of Long Island, NY. Five minutes after arriving on a beach I took a look through my binoculars at a gull that was standing at the shoreline, when I suddenly noticed a smaller bird in between the gull and me. It was quite well camouflaged against the sand. I did not expect to see the Piping plover so quickly. It ...
Killdeers [USA 2024]
The Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) is one of my favorite plovers, even though I saw my first one only last year. I saw several during my recent trip to the US. Some were tirelessly flying around calling constantly in the evening. I still hope to see one in the Netherlands, which thus far only has one record from April 2005.
Wild Turkeys [USA 2024]
At the place that I was visiting there were many Wild Turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) around. There is no hunting there, so they do not seem to pay attention to people. The males were anyway busy displaying.
Eastern Screech Owls [USA 2024]
This trip I had the good fortune to see two "red morph" Eastern Screech Owls (Megascops asio) that were present in the same park about 50 to 100 meters apart. A local told me that the day before a grey one had been seen on the same spot, so they suspect that at least one of them forms a pair.

Prettig weekend alvast!
beautiful captures
Thank you! 👍
beautiful captures.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Prettige dag!
Great video! Greetings from a Swedish youtuber! 🇸🇪
Thanks, Daniel, greetings from the Netherlands from another Daniel. Nice video of the Dipper by the way 👍
Prachtig. Allebei in beeld. En dan ook nog een bijeneter. Groetjes en fijne avond
Bedankt, Jacq, daar was ik erg blij mee. Fijne avond!
beautiful video, nice captures, thank you.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
very nice captures, thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting! 👍
Prachtige beelden en grappig einde!😅
Hoi Rik!
Prettige avond!
Good 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Geweldig! 😊
Dank je, Jacq!
beautiful footage, nice capture, thank you.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it 👍🏼
Mooie zondagochtend hoor! Groetjes Jacq
Qua vogels zeker, qua weer minder 😉
beautiful birds, nice share, thanks.
Thanks for watching and reacting!
Aw, super cute!
Dat is een mooi soort. Nooit van gehoord. Maar wat is hij mooi! Prettige dinsdag, Jacq
Ja, erg mooie vogel, fijne dag!
Mooi hoor! Groetjes Jacq🙋♀️
Dank je, Jacq, fijne avond!
Nice video
Thanks!
Wow a goshawk was mobbing the gyrfalcon
Yes the gyrfalcon was not a welcome guest and one can see they are comparable in size. Thanks for watching!
Correct me if I am wrong, but the initial bird is the kestrel, pause e.g. at 0:22, narrow long tail and pointy wings. Sparrowhawk from 0:41 sec onwards, sparrowhawk id is best done at 0:52 - 0:53 when tail is sread. One can even see the banding on the tail, as well as the typical wing profile of a sparrowhawk.
You're absolutely correct! 👍Thanks for watching and commenting!
beautiful video, thank you.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Nice and positive video!
Thank you! 👍
@@DBoer 🙏🙏👍👍
Same here just now in Enfield lock London.
Always fascinating to see this kind of behaviour!
Prettige zondag !
Jij ook !
Mooie compilatie , vooral Oehoe indrukwekkend ..
Prettige avond
bedankt voor de mooie beelden
Bedankt voor het kijken en reageren!
Very nice video of arctic red-poll!! //Karl-David
Thanks very much! Best regards, Daniel
Fijne avond!
Gefeliciteerd, Daniel, prachtige opname !
Dank je, Will !
Did you know that the booted eagle is the only species of the genus Hieraaetus?
Thanks for commenting! I did not know that but see in Wikipedia that "The genus contains five species." Anyway, the Booted eagle is the only one I have seen. Best regards
@DBoer, the booted eagle is actually now the only species in the genus Hieraaetus, the other four extant species are now moved to two separate genera, the wahlberg's eagle and ayres's eagle both now belong to the genus Ammaetus, while both the pygmy eagle and little eagle belong to the genus Milvaetus, both these genera are not closely related to Hieraaetus, with Ammaetus being much closer to Archoraptor, Aquila, Lophotriorchis, and Geranoaetus and Milvaetus being closer to Uroaetus.
Thanks for letting me know!
