Red-headed woodpecker [USA 2024]

During my trip to the US I saw that a Red-headed woodpecker (Melanerpes erythrocephalus) was reported close to where I was staying on Long Island, NY. I headed to the place early in the morning only to find that it was closed until noon because of Wild turkey hunting. I returned around noon and was enjoying the woodpecker that was actively flying around. In the evening I found 4 ticks on me and a fifth one fell off my pants! The place was clearly infested with ticks, a common problem on Long Island. After that I was more careful about the places I visited and where I walked, avoiding tall grass. Luckily I could avoid any further ticks, because the risk of ticks with Lyme disease is considerable on Long Island.
