About the PKD Diet
มุมมอง 3288 หลายเดือนก่อน
PKD diet ↙️ The PKD diet can be a bit different from a CKD diet. This is because the cysts in PKD “react” to some different nutrients. For example, salt and fluid balance is very important. ⭐️ Limit salt to no more than 2,300 mg/day. Drink plenty of fluids as well. (If you’re on a doctor-ordered fluid restriction…be sure to follow that!) Too much protein can be bad for kidney health, so don’t f...

    I HAVEN'T BEEN DIAGNOSTED WITH ANYTHING AS OF YET BUT I FIGURED I WAS IN STAGE 3 BECAUSE OF MY EGFR NUMBER WICH IS 49. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MY POTASSIUM BECAUSE I BUY THE VERY LARGE BANANNAS AND SINCE THEY ALWAYS GO BAD ALL AT ONCE I HAVE TO FIND WAYS TO USE THEM UP. SO I GO THROUGH 5 OR 6 BANANNAS EVERY WEEK. I WAS GOING TO QUIT EATING THEM OR AT LEAST BUY SMALLER ONES AND CUT BACK. LAST YEAR MY NUMBER WAS NORMAL AND MY EATING HABBITS ARE THE SAME. I DO HAVE SOME SYMPTOMS SUCH AS SEVERE ITCHING, AND INFAMATION, ALSO SWELLING OF MY FEET AND ANKLES. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH UTI'S MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE HAD KIDNEY STONES A FEW TIMES IN MY LIFETIME ALONG WITH HAVING SEPSIS TWICE BECAUSE OF KIDNEY STONES AND UTI'S THAT TURNED INTO SEPSIS. NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO CHANGE MY LIFE STYLE NOW BEFORE IT'S TO LATE AND I END UP ON DIALYSIS.

    First time I heard of dash diet was here today yet was diagnosed with stage 3 ckd back when my son was 4 hes now 31 and a dad of two and dash diet mentioned in comments never heard of it before almost thought it was a diet for my poodle no GP has told me I should be on a special diet except watch salt in take I read a book once at a shop set up by a lady whose husband had a kidney op and she gave it to me to read being from USA the foods in it were not ac variable in NZ BACK THEN and when I tried to speak to a locum gp she laughed at me so I got up walked out of her office and never paid her she called out come back and I kept on walking since then never heard dash diet or any other diet for ckd it started with protein in my urine back in days before computers GPS still used pen and paper and still wished they did as they stare at screen without looking at you send prescription thru to chemist then you have to sort it all out with chemist when wrong prescription meds are offered to you and or you do t know what it's for except you know it's not for your dog ! So I'm very grateful for you being on here to share something all ckd patients should be told im now stage 3 also had dna to findi have mody 5 hnf1beta genetic diabetes since birth but only showed itself in my later life pancreas kidneys and renal and kidneys liver and reproductive organs all have atrophy degeneration thankyou for taking the time to share what you know to help ckd patients better themselves and to realise theirs light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a Train !!😢😮😂

      In some cases (SOME), they can be okay. However, they're very high in sodium... like 500 milligrams in one stick. For a patient that needs to follow a low-sodium diet, that would be a HUGE dent in their sodium allowance for the day. Like a meals-worth! 😅

    My boyfriend lost one kidney to cancer. He's not diabetic, but does have hypertension issues on occasion, which I guess owes to his latest stage 3 chronic kidney disease diagnosis. He's a meat and potatoes kind of guy and hates the idea of going vegan (we're both omnivores at heart and I'm pre-diabetic (although I'm working on my diet and weight reduction as we speak through exercise). GREAT video! If I understand correctly, we are trying to address adequate ALBUMIN levels and protein intake is the main way to increase it, correct? That is, if albumin is okay, we can eat less protein. (Thank you for adding info on different ways albumin levels are affected. I have seen studies noting vegetarians with moderate protein intake have higher albumin, which is interesting) With PD patients, some still have residual kidney function. Have you seen any difference in how a health team might address protein intake? Is it correct to assume all dialysis patients must maintain a higher protein intake while using treatment? Thank you! I know it is tricky to address this type of question. I mostly want to develop the right information to bring to my providers and get the most out of the conversation. :]

    Why is a “Normal” eGFR usually reported as >60 when stage 2 is between 60-89 and stage 1 is 90-100. People often first find out they have CKD when in stage 3. There’s nothing normal about an eGFR consistently in the 70s, yet it would be reported as “Normal”. Why aren’t people being told at least when kidney function is in stage 2 so you have an even greater chance of making life style changes to preserve kidney function?

    • @PlantPoweredKidneys
      @PlantPoweredKidneys 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Age and other conditions may play a role in the GFR. Even a little dehydration can sway the result, but it doesn't mean it's automatically classified as CKD. Unfortunately, some aren't told the gravity of the situation, some don't even realize the diagnosis (though it can be listed on their chart), and some just don't hear it because it's glossed over as a non-issue.
