Happy New Year Jen! 🎉❤ . Is itvtruly common for nephrologists to not give patients guidance re healthier eating? I always ask my dr if i have any restrictions? And he says no. However the g.i dieticisn i work with, suggests lowering proteins and increasing and or decreasing this and that. So listening to my dietician and listening to great dieticians like yourself really helps. Thank you. 😊

Happy new year, Karen! Honestly, diet is not a doctor's forte. They don't go through the training and education like dietitians do, so it's difficult for them to provide much guidance. But that's okay... that's why renal dietitians like us exist! 😉 It's great your dietitian is giving you guidance. Try asking why a bit more to have your dietitian explain the reasoning behind increasing and decreasing foods and nutrients. It will work best when you understand more of what's going on with your kidney health.
