  • Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

      @@harrylately1 Life can be very short. I just turned 58. All my buddies that are going to pass away young are doing so. Nobody thinks about being gone at age 60. I'm just getting started on retirement. But, I try not to waste a day. This is an amazing place to live. If a person is in a rut in the UK or US, maybe my little channel will show an affordable option. I love San Diego, but today Bangkok is home.

    Greetings Eager Expat, another great episode with amazing scenery out of Bangkok Thailand. Paul Lee lives in a pet friendly condo. His TH-cam channel is under the same name, Paul Lee. The concept of releasing informative daily videos is an excellent endeavor. Thai women are very pretty and are available in all shapes, and sizes, they are the life of Thailand. I am not impressed with the Thailand Rulers or Ruler behavior with so many Thai people in the state of poverty. Thanks for sharing.

    Yes, I’m a recent subscriber trying to catch up on your videos and I do appreciate you mentioning more than once some of the special places like Escape and the Flamenco. As to those clubs, I hadn’t heard of them despite about 8 trips to the Asoke area. Always looking for good sky bars. So I’ll try them out next time. Thanks.

    Do all the movies in English have Thai subtitles? Do they ever have movies in English with no subtitles?

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, in the tourist areas, they have Thai subtitles. In the suburbs, they may have English subtitles. It's all listed at Cinematic Asia. I use that app for movie times.

    I recall one day walking on Soi 23 narrow sidewalk on the opposite side of Cowboy and I had things coming at me from everywhere lol , motorbikes reversing into me motorbikes coming from behind broken pavements rubbish littered up in piles it was murder until I got to a bar and calmed down with a couple of cold ones.

      It's a busy city. I like to call BKK an organized chaos. I love all the energy. It's way more fun to me than driving everywhere in San Diego. Here in a 1 mile walk, I might see 20 things I missed in a car. But, I agree. It takes some time to adjust

    The Emporium / EM Quartier malls very busy on weekends with families who live in the suburb.
    Have a local mall feel, where all locals are millionaires.
    Prom Phrom has a lot of massage establishments because of the very large Japanese/Korean expat community.
    Lots of restaurants and bars.
    A very up market area.

    Lot of interesting observations in this video. 1. I noticed in this video and others most locals either ignore your camera or do a friendly wave. Here in Toronto, you'd probably be heckled lol. Same in California probably. 2. Another reminder being alert on sidewalks and 3. Dont be hero/dumbass and try to cross the busy road like that couple did. Just not worth it

      Ya, I try to be a little discreet. But I just use my cell phone. I have GoPros and a Sony camera. But the phone is perfect for these casual looks around town. 99% of people have a phone in their hand. I try to avoid filming in bar areas. Not everyone is too happy to be filmed at Soi Cowboy. I understand

    I don't quite agree with your tipping mindset. In most countries around the world, tipping is neither expected nor required, which is a good thing. Right now in the US, the tipping culture has gotten out of control, and now there are even videos of food delivery guys throwing a fit when some customers don't tip. At that point it's not really a tip, but an entitlement. I would hate to see that outside the US. Love your content, though.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate you watching. I've also visited over 100 countries. I was just in Australia and New Zealand. A bartender might make $35 and hour or $24 US. A bottle of beer is also $12 US at just a regular place. At a nightclub closer to $20 US. In Bangkok a beer on happy hour can be $2. The wait staff might make 10,000 baht to 15,000 baht a month. That's $410 a month if they are lucky to get 15K. Or $2.60 hour. Assuming they have to work 5 days and eight hours a day. 6 days a week and 10 hours is probably more realistic. That's now a $1.75 an hour.
      I also agree it's getting crazy in the US. You're often times way closer to 25% these days. Plus, the meal has doubled in price in the last 10 years. In Bangkok, I feel very fortunate to live on a western salary/saving/pension. I don't think twice about having a meal and three beers that might be 350b for the meal and 140b for 3 beers or 770b. That's a $21 meal or perhaps a full days pay for my server. I certainly don't feel obligated to tip. But leaving what amounts to a 10% tip ($2 to $3) on a meal that would have cost me $100 in the US, is just what I choose to do.
      We're all on a budget. But, unlike the cry baby pizza delivery guy in the US, caught on a ring camera throwing the $1.25 in quarters tip in the grass. A server in Bangkok is always very grateful for a small tip. Even if it's just a simple round up from 380b to keep the change at 400b. That 20b tip still needs to be split maybe 10 ways. But, at the end of the night, I hope she walks out making a little more than the required minimum of $2 an hour. Even if it's $3 an hour she averaged, that might pay her kids school lunch for the next week.
      I understand what your saying. These servers are very used to getting a zero tip. I think it's going to be a very long time before they feel entitled to a tip. Maybe in western/expat bars that has happened to a small degree. Most guys are going to leave that round up from 369 to 400b. I've always tried to pay at least a small amount to charities out of my paycheck over the years. Who know where that money goes. You only hope it's used correct. Other people give the church 10% or 20%, etc.. Me today, I give my Thai server that extra $1 dollar. Call it a tip for service or paying it forward. It doesn't matter to me. I'm way more convinced she knows how to spend that $1 than some large organization. At the end of the day, if I didn't tip a dime, I'd save $25 or $30 a month? That might be one tip on a nice date in San Diego. I'm very grateful to live here in Bangkok.

      @@stephenk5656 Ya, they work really hard for a small amount each day. $2 or $3 will go much further with my server, than me having a fourth beer.

      I'm not too sure on pet friendly options. I know the Waterford Diamond on Soi 30/1 in Phrom Phong accepts pets. I also know they call Soi 20 "Soi Dog" Maybe because it's close to the dog park at Benjakitti. Sorry I'm not more help, but you'll want to be close to the dog park and Benjakitti. Not that many dog parks around
