Based on this last citizencon, I think science is just crafting now. The science guild stuff they showed when they were talking about missions and rep were all crafting type things. The original pitch on science, which is what had me most interested, was about finding materials to experiment with to find their properties and make things out of. I think now exploration will just be how you find things, including the location of the materials you need for crafting, which leads me to thinking exploration and science will just end up being the same thing, but different mission types and guild reps. Science focused ships would probably just have small crafting stations on them, probably at the expense of an exploration ships cargo hold.
TL;DR you don't have a clue.
The cave idea is interesting but rather than seeming to move, keep its original location. However based on your explorer rate and scanner quality you find chambers behind walls. Access would require the use of a mining tool/tools. Thus potentially extending the cave system over time.
I d be just happy they would release it as V1 without any bugs at this point. It is ok If they ditch massive side of multiplayer and only allow upto let's say 128 players or 64 even and let us be happy in our small simulations. I don't want any glitches, bugs, sync issues etc. in the narrowed scope. And later they can take it from there and expand the scope as 1.1 - 1.2 etc..

I liked the idea of the roaming cave locations cause it’s similar to an idea I had about transient jump points going to an unexplored system. Like there would be no stable jump points to it until many people have found transient jump points to it and then a permanent jump point appears and is available to everyone. It would be cool to have a new system they release and they just tell us that it’s in the game and can be found but isn’t mapped. It could make an expansion to the story of the exploration guild requesting map data of the new system and as more of it gets explored and mapped the data can be given to the guild to be sent to everyone (it can also be locked to a reputation level)
I would like to see a nav map change that allows you to focus just on your own collected nav markers. I want the gameplay option that if I start on Hurston I don't even know the existence of Microtech unless I get the data from someone/somewhere or scan it and add my own beacon. It would be cool and makes more sense for a character progression that would make death of a spaceman more impactful than a slight hit to rep or resources. You are suddenly a different person and have no idea where anything is. For example re-finding your old characters base would be quite a fun and personal exploration challenge.
It's not in yet bc we just got pyro, we have to wait for the other systems to come in before we can think of exploration in that aspect.
I hope the engineering terminal will eventually turn into a ship overvew terminal where you can also access other categories, like all the data you have stored on your ship, a cargo management app, and so on.
I think that mining could involve underground resources that you can only locate if a science ship tests the surface soil.
Explore in an MMO is impossible. What? Oh, there's a new unexplored cave, cool. You enter and find 50 guys spawn camping whatever is in that cave. There is ZERO EXPLORATION IN MMOS. data miners getvthere first no matter what. Anyone says other is fucking delusional
Instead of resulting in actually new things science gameplay can 'reveal' HIDDEN things. The difference being that the devs would already have made and balanced these things. Anyway, what most people get wrong about science is that they fixate only on sample collection or observation. Science gameplay would need to involve not only observation but also theory-finding, theory-testing, and application. Sounds impossible to gamify theory, but, no, theory plays a big part in all puzzles. A classic example CIG could base its own science game design on would be the codebreaking game Mastermind. Mastermind involves observation, theory-finding, theory-testing, and application. CIG wouldn't need to make science a minigame, but they'd need to facilitate experimentation with crafting recipes and of course logically consistent observations players can use to form and evaluate theories about recipes and their results.
I was a fan of exploring new things. But with the rollout of Pyro it tells another story. If you are scanning in unknown waters your signature lights like a Xmas tree for everyone who want to kill you for fun. An explorer isn’t meant for war, so exploration makes you an easy target for everyone with guns. The profession of an explorer is the fastest way to loose time, fun, ingame money and your life.
Thats because there isnt enough systems and planets. If there were 30 systems with 20 planets each, you wouldnt run into nearly as many players.... also research/explore ships should have a stealth function.
@David_Bang_ well not necessarily a stealth function. Explorer should have the advantage of passive scanning. Explorer should have a good overview of possible threats and should properly maned have a high chance of evading trouble. Stealth ships could be their weak point. Would make sense.
I think you nailed it. CIG will add some POI in space and on planets, and possibly new resources to find and the game loop rill be to sell data to the interested parts Even a Reliant SEN could find a role exploring small biomes
I thought Science would be finding and scanning new worm holes, Gas pockets, getting samples on planet surfaces, Investigating Anomalies, scanning plant life for more powerful healing stims, looking for the richest rocks and reporting back locations, new species of ameba so on and so forth. During all of these events there will be others that will try to stop you for what ever reason. Even scanning and repair space stations would be fantastic. I hope they get on with these types of missions. I am sure they would make for interesting content.
Even what you described would be science per se. At best you'd be a glorified lab assistant.
Science in EVE Online is BIG!!
My guess it will come down to scan (ore, wormholes, ground resources) and sell and unfortunately not deep space exploration. Maybe one day we will get systems that don’t have NPC stations. Great Video 😊

Not right now. I think they will eventually get to the 80+ currently known systems and then maybe start filling out the void with procedurally generated systems. But right now it’s too early to tell

Still haven't made the trip to Pyro. The contested Zones will get their rewards changed for sure. The lore will definitely change to accommodate gameplay. SC can't afford to have empty system where no one wants to go. Every system needs to have certain gameplay aspcts and Pyro surely fits the idea of piracy gameplay. High risk-high reward.
I feel like the problem with all these space games is the sandbox feel. Like...I will ALWAYS get bored "making my own fun". Give me a freaking space mmo like wow. I want to make my character (maybe different species) fly a ship do missions/quests have some progress to my character and join a guild, maybe do some "raids" aka big ass ship battles and or battles with big space monsters on different planets with my guild . THAT would be dope! But...thats just my opinion.
Npcs will be fine with solar flares, they managed to breathe, make fire without oxygen, walk around in +200 or - 200ºC in summer clothes. Radiation will be used to cook some food.

Spent at most two hours in Pyro and flew right back to Stanton due to hanger issues being more prevalent in Pyro.
Kinda same here, love the content in Pyro but it's wayyy too buggy atm. Maybe wait a few patch cycles before I really commit to it again.
I have had the reverse problem on my alt account endless problems in Stanton but works as well as sc ever does in pryo my main account is a balance of problems in both systems
How about camp fires in Pyro moon without oxygen or atmosphere or NPs running around outdoors in t-shirt with -200 hundreds degrees Celsius.
They have adapted quickly once exposed to the radiation. True story.
Once you get to a certain number of bugs, they become meaningless due the sheer quantity. Also true story.

I'm about to try Elite. Mostly because Star Citizen is working so poorly.
First what I would like to see in ships is some sort of night-vision device or increase the duration of the ping pulse, which reveals terrain and objects in the dark. The current one is too fast and not so detailed. And next what is desperatelly missing is a radar switch to LIDAR when landing gear is deployed, so we would be able to actually see, what is below our ship, because now we just need to switch the camera to outside view. Something like uses Elite Dangerous.
Agreed, I love the landing cameras and UI and night vision in Elite. CIG did put out a few night vision scopes for guns recently so maybe ship night vision is in the works?

Both the Origin 300i and the MISC Reliant Kore are tiers 2 starters pack like the Aegis Avenger Titan, the C.O. Nomad and the Gatac Syulen.
Coming from a guy who has played both. I will give a good point & a bad point for both games. Elite Dangerous is good because it is effectively a finished game & where no matter where u go, there is something to do where there is an entire galaxy to explore, it is beautiful & a solid game. Elite Dangerous is bad because it lacks some immersion & verify when it comes to the ships & space stations you come across. Eventually seeing the same internals to a space station gets boring. Star citizen is good, because each planet you go to is hand made, everything on that planet is interactable. Not to mention the ships, the ability to walk about inside your ship and do loads of intricate jobs around it with multi crew vics makes it that much more immersive. Plus SC is creating tech that has never been done before. Star Citizen's bad thing, is that it is an unfinished game, it is plagued with bugs, the devs seem to keep delaying projects further & further back, making the players lose faith in the game. In total i think SC has the potential to be great whilst ED is already there but can be improved upon.

Beds and living spaces in small crafts that can't travel far away from refuel POI's which have living spaces creates a over lapping redundancy as the game makes these ships less capable of completing a mission. A starter ship that can be carried away by a bigger ship helps future proof the purchase like the Pieces. Other starters that are great to have in the beginning but get replaced over time are the one's with extra quantum fuel to reach further across the verse to reach friends in unknown places. Carrying a good amount of fuel to not leave new players stranded while exploring the game is what a starter ship should be. The Arrow in D tier is a good call. Fighters go with the wind when balance changes and it's wings folding up high has stopped it from being carried by some larger ships. Cargo capacity at 8 or higher is good to limit how many trips taken but will need escorts to help defend them and hopefully they can reach their intend destination.
Got Elite Dangerous for around 6 dollars on sale, haven't regretted it since. Huge exploration potential. Exobiology was the most fun I had in a grind. Even if the FPS experience isn't the best, it's still better than nothing. Overall Elite Dangerous checks out all the boxes for me and I would highly recommend it to any space enthusiast! very underrated.
