Seeing someone play Mario Kart DS really brings a smile to my face. It's such a shame Nintendo overlooks such an awesome title for all the stuff it brought to the table. Wii's good, but asides from the visuals, it was held back a lot by some features being simplified to give casual players a better experience; i.e., battle mode and drifting system. It's nice that Mario Kart is a lot more casual-friendly now, but my favourites would still be DS and Double-dash

i grew up in semi-rural australia, and a treasured experience of mine is when my and my best friend's families would drive the half hour to the closest town of a weekend; my friend's parents would have me and my 3 siblings load into their minivan along with their 3 kids (my friend included), and all 7 of us would play mario kart ds on the drive to and from town, with us getting competitive and ganging up on anyone in the lead (so either me or my best friend) and arguing over who should use the ds with the worn out buttons as a handicap (again, usually me). sadly we can't wholly recreate the experience these days as one of my siblings has since passed, but it'd be nice to get everyone together again to play a few party games, especially now that the youngest of us is 18

it is great to watch a game that was not only a part of my childhood, but also seeing it being beaten in the fraction of the time it would’ve taken be to get through the first couple of levels lol. i also think that there’s this very entertaining aspect of watching any speedrun with commentary because it’s almost like you’re listening to a podcast while you are watching something that you enjoy. congratulations on the the WR! keep it up!

I remember when we first got this game I was like in pre school and I remember playing the first mission boss and just couldn’t beat it

As a kid I never knew about the 7th wave of levels until in middle school I bought a book that gives tips and tricks and found out i needed at least 1 star on every mission for it. Good times

Just a quick question. Why do you play on the Japanese release? Does it have any additional bugs/ glitches/exploits?

There is actually one difference between the DSi and the XL. The former uses ordinary TN screens ( very similar to the DS Lite but with faster pixel response time ), while the XL uses IPS screens, and therefore can be viewed in a very wide range of angles. A portion of 3DS and New3DS systems also had IPS, but not all. In general nowadays the DSi is a very great system to homebrew to digitally backup your DS games and saves into the SD card ( no flashcart needed! ) as well as very good GB emulation and acceptable GBA quality, the biggest advantage here being playing those on high quality TN/IPS screens superior to the 3DS in that regard. Last but not least, the DSi supports WPA internet security and for compatible games made after 2008, making it much more likely to work out of the box with your modern router, whereas WEP security for the old DS games and hardware require some extra setup.
