Achieved on the 25th of January, 2024. Good run with tiny mistakes which added up. Any further improvement to this will require implementing much more advanced IL strats. It will be very hard from now on.

Seeing you pause before each mission ending is so satisfying
As a kid I never knew about the 7th wave of levels until in middle school I bought a book that gives tips and tricks and found out i needed at least 1 star on every mission for it. Good times

I just found my DS Lite again recently and started playing this game again, finally actually trying to get good at it and found your channel yesterday, watched your now former WR of All missions and felt your pain when the run lost so much time to things like menuing, glad to see you came back to it

There is actually one difference between the DSi and the XL. The former uses ordinary TN screens ( very similar to the DS Lite but with faster pixel response time ), while the XL uses IPS screens, and therefore can be viewed in a very wide range of angles. A portion of 3DS and New3DS systems also had IPS, but not all.
In general nowadays the DSi is a very great system to homebrew to digitally backup your DS games and saves into the SD card ( no flashcart needed! ) as well as very good GB emulation and acceptable GBA quality, the biggest advantage here being playing those on high quality TN/IPS screens superior to the 3DS in that regard.
Last but not least, the DSi supports WPA internet security and for compatible games made after 2008, making it much more likely to work out of the box with your modern router, whereas WEP security for the old DS games and hardware require some extra setup.
You know i always wondered why Bowser and Donkey Kong never fought a boss in these mission modes
My guess is Bowser's chill with every boss on that list, Donkey Kong doesn't have connection with any Mario enemy, and it keeps to the 8 world trend of Mario games
Im very surprised that the game lets you get a star rating on the king buu mission while losing two baloons. I guess it's solely based on how fast you are?

it is great to watch a game that was not only a part of my childhood, but also seeing it being beaten in the fraction of the time it would’ve taken be to get through the first couple of levels lol. i also think that there’s this very entertaining aspect of watching any speedrun with commentary because it’s almost like you’re listening to a podcast while you are watching something that you enjoy. congratulations on the the WR! keep it up!
Seeing someone play Mario Kart DS really brings a smile to my face. It's such a shame Nintendo overlooks such an awesome title for all the stuff it brought to the table. Wii's good, but asides from the visuals, it was held back a lot by some features being simplified to give casual players a better experience; i.e., battle mode and drifting system.
It's nice that Mario Kart is a lot more casual-friendly now, but my favourites would still be DS and Double-dash

I remember when i was a kid how one night i was playing this game in secret, and i had given as a mission for myself to 3 stars everything to "finish the game".
Imagine my shock when the 7th level showed itself. I did not sleep until i beat wiggler

I feel like it would be faster to break through the crates after collecting the first coin on 7-7 than it would be to turn all the way towards the wall, then back towards the other coin.

Yes, very true. I have just not gotten around to implementing the IL strat in RTA (mostly laziness).

I remember when we first got this game I was like in pre school and I remember playing the first mission boss and just couldn’t beat it
The algorithm is so weird, I just completed all the missions over the course of a week and then this pops up 😳

I’m curious, could the super bounce be used anywhere in this speedrun? Sorry if it’s already used, I’ve gotta go do something in 15 minutes so I can’t watch the whole speedrun, but I’m assuming it’s not used in the speedrun yet.
It cannot be applied anywhere to my knowledge, but who knows in the future.

nice, i accidentally now reset my save file on mario kart ds 3 times when i completed all cups golden, only 150 and mirror mode, so take it with a grain of salt because its just 64 tracks

So you can afford to collide against walls, thwomps, gates, and so on and still get 3*? On many missions I remember finishing with 1 collision and getting 2*, and then getting a worse time with no collisions and get a 3*
Oh and also, how do you make the King Bob-omb trigger his own bomb? I thought it was chance

Question: Would you not be able to save like one second total (optimistically) by tapping “Return to Mission Select” on the pause menu instead of scrolling down?
Probably, but using the touch screen is risky in a speedrun setting due to poor calibration. I'm not sure I want to risk accidentally selecting restart with my thumb.
@@mkdsabel is your touch screen dirty? Or is bad calibration just an OG DS thing?
@@grottosstuff I clean my DS pretty much after every streaming session so it's not dirty. You just won't get the same amount of precision on the bottom screen pause menu with your thumb compared to say, a DS stylus.
My Ds’s card reader is bugged and it doesn’t read the memory card for some reason… would love to fix, but I’ve got no clue

Just a quick question. Why do you play on the Japanese release? Does it have any additional bugs/ glitches/exploits?
Also, are you not allowed to use the touch screen for runs?
The Japanese versions saves one frame between course loads.

It takes time for a repetitive technique to settle in. Practice, practice and watch the tech tutorial linked in the description.
