Stepdeck/Flatbed Rates In Midwest Are Better
Starting my StepDeck Journey As A Owner Operator Working solely on the Truckstop/DAT Loadboard. Midwest open deck has always been a good market but due to over capacity of trucks the market is so unpredictable. Watch me struggle to find loads that pays descent with a stepdeck trailer.

    I am thinking of going into trucking however my impression is that if you lease onto a company you have no say in the loads you take on and the company will be maxing out your load to the limit and wear out your truck faster. If you have your own authority you can pick and choose the weight and routes you take on.

      Gov controls minimum wage, they should make sure truck business should not be hauling loads for less than costs plus minimum wage per mile. I'll bet the big carriers are are doing loads for less than costs, until they go bankrupt. As we can see big companies are filling bankrupt.

  • @MS-oz2wu

    I agree on the deckspace. I don't understand how you can haul for less than $2.80 a mile, said to be the break even. 😮

    I used to think the unreasonably low posted rates meant the broker wants you to call them to bargain on the load. Nope….

      that’s true because they have too many options to choose from but we have to work with same brokers. As you mentioned those brokerage names who pays that cheap atleast we need to charge them 1000 over the market rate. But again everyone has to take stand otherwise it’s gonna be too late.

      I think that's partially true but another aspect is a lot of them are living in their trucks. So they have low or no outside overhead. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot are getting assistance for their least trucks and trailers, government discounts on a lot of things.

  • @rbk77
    @rbk77 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Truckstop makes their estimates based on what’s posted and not on what actually the rate was when carrier accepted the load. DAT does their estimate rate based on their OTR factoring invoices that I submitted. Another thing, truckstop does not include partials when they posted as a partial load, but many times I see a load posted as a full load, and when I call on it, the broker will say that it is a partial load, thus it gets into the average rate of full load.

    • @pinoytrucking
      @pinoytrucking 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah those numbers are not accurate if that’s the case. Thats why I feel like DAT is more accurate than Truckstop when it comes to averages.

    • @rbk77
      @rbk77 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ basically DAT shows averages for previous so many weeks/days and truckstop shows you what brokers are offering today.

    Pinoy, I do dry van. I think its much more simple and the rates are not much different. And less deadhead

    • @pinoytrucking
      @pinoytrucking 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think right now van should be better. This time of the year open deck usually slows down. In general; I do agree that on some levels van might be the way to go because of all the other BS you gotta deal with in open deck.

    • @HirsiTV
      @HirsiTV 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ absolutely, I dislike reefer for many reasons. Open and flatbed seems like a lot of work. With these current horrible rates, I think Van is the best. You have a lot of specialized equipment. You paid a lot of money for it and your average trucker wouldn’t now how to use it. You should be making a lot more

    I pull my freight out of Ks that pays good my back haul is spot market but I need to get back to Ks so I do haul cheap freight back I don’t like it but it’s better then going back empty. If I had to do just spot market I would park my flatbed step deck and pull a refer

    • @pinoytrucking
