Flux Core Welding Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipe #lfluxcorewelding #S10Life #weld
In this video I am going to show how I tested multiple weld configurations on 2.5" stainless steel exhaust tubing. I will test recommended settings as well as setting with 100% Argon and 75% Argon with 25% C02 gas mixture. I like the setting 3 current level with the 30 wire speed on my Hobart 210 MVP welder. Results may vary based on your welder and I recommend testing before setting up to finalize your project. I tested multiple weld configurations to get to my conclusion as to what setting I would use. I will be using current level 3 wire speed 30 with no gas for my exhaust project.
PLEASE RESEARCH AND USE THE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REGARDING RESPIRATORS AND VENTILATION WHEN IT COMES TO WELDING STAINLESS STEEL WITH FLUX CORE WIRE OR STAINLESS STEEL WELDING. i DO NOT HAVE OR DID I USE A FUME EXTRACTOR DURING THIS VIDEO. PLEASE USE EXTERME PRECATUIONS WHEN WELDING AS SOME WELDING FUMES WILL CAUSE CANCER.

I did this testing based on my own research and I recommend you research this testing own your own for best results.

On mine, the old rubber window channel material had turned absolutely ROCK HARD on the upper part of the window. I ended up having to score it with a spring-loaded punch like you use to mark metal before drilling. That fractured it enough for me to crack it out with a nylon trim tool. But what took you a few seconds to remove the old track took me ~3 hours :-(
@southerner66 some of those can be a pain for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting!
As a veteran racing transmission builder just wanted to say the front oil pump has a converter hub "bushing" the same as other areas of transmission but not a "bearing". There certainly are needle torrington bearings in it too. I am commenting this so maybe you would consider the title misleading since there are actual racing modications to put a needle bearing in place of the plastic shim thrust washer that requires lathe machine work to oil pump. I thought you were possibly going to show that finished process? Plus they have tools to put front seal on over the stator shaft tube and even a poor man's steel pipe or pvc pipe can work in a pinch as well as brass hammer. But after watching this it still worked out for you in the end though! Glad your trying to keep your tranny going and good luck with the s10🔥
@djrowe10 thanks for the call out. I will definitely get the title changed. Didn’t even think anything about it but definitely dont want to be calling out parts wrong or misleading. Appreciate the view and the comment!!!
@djrowe10 Got it updated! Thanks man!
Burn wire!
Mine came in yesterday. My free stuff didn’t come with it. Calling tomorrow. But so far happy with it
@jaybeeman3628 Nice! Did you get the lite or the pro system?
@ the lite. Also got the intake and injectors throttle body. It was on back No big deal waiting on the weather to break.
@jaybeeman3628 Very cool. Wish I could have got the intake and injectors, but I have plans to run the tbss intake. We will see how it goes. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching and commenting!!!
@ no problem good luck also
@ thanks!!
Nice work. Nice truck. I'd like to find a license plate pocket and splash shield if anyone has any input on where to find them.
@James.Richter I will keep my eyes out for you.
@dtperformance256 much appreciated. I just picked up two nice rear bumpers 👌
@James.Richter isn’t it nice to run across stuff like this? I get more excited about my junkyard and marketplace deals than I do about purchasing new parts!!😂 Glad you found a couple of good bumpers!!!
Does anybody know if this will work on a 2nd gen s10? (2003)
@duahm Not 100% for sure, but I do not think the first gen manual box will work on a secong gen truck. I don’t have personal experience with it, but from all the info I have seen it will not work.
@ crap. Trying to find a way to get rid of power steering. Definitely don’t want to do rack and pinion.
@duahm I don’t blame you. I haven’t done much research on Gen 2 manual steering but from the research I have read on the forums and TH-cam there is not an exact replacement box. Most people loop the lines together. I may be wrong and you may find something, but I have not seen it. I will do some more digging and let you know. Thanks for watching and commenting!!! Update…. Go read this forum and see if it helps you out. www.s10forum.com/threads/manual-steering-conversion.685258/
@ thank you and good video!
@duahm Thank you and good luck on your build!!
Did the same for the Xmas sale. Also won a PDM in their giveaway. I have a 2003 sonoma. Swapping to a 5.3. Purchased the jackpot pro kit with intake, injectors, 7 inch screen, coils, valve covers, etc. It’s a nice kit. But yet to install any of it. Wiring is really nice.
@chuckg3517 Awesome!! If you get yours installed before I do, please come back and keep me posted on how it went and how you like it!! Good luck on your build and thanks for watching and commenting!! I hope to hear feom you soon!!
@chuckg3517 That’s awesome! If you get yours installed before I do, let me know how it went and how you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting!! Good luck on your build and I hope to hear from you soon!
@@dtperformance256 it’s been a slow project. Two years I’ve had the truck. Lots to be done. And I can’t get motivated to be in the garage with the recents temps we’ve had here, north of Atlanta. 😂 🥶 … was considering starting a YT channel for it. Not much of a camera guy though. Currently researching front rotating assemblies for the LS. Truck is still in one piece but is a garage queen 😅 making my list of to dos. Motor is almost done though.
@chuckg3517 Man In totally understand. I started my channel when I started the build in June 2022 so this year will be 3 years grinding to get the truck completed. Iam in north Alabama so I understand the weather too!! 🥶I am getting close now and plan in having it running in a few more months. I am not a camera guy either. I like to think I am better than when I started, but filming and editing takes a while to learn the tricks of the trade. Not to mention when you film it takes 3 times as long to do something. Film, move the camera, film, say something stupid, re-film, and editing takes awhile. I work a full time job and have to travel some for my work. With a family it takes time. It’s fun though. I hope to learn a lot, teach a little of what I know to help others prevent the mistakes I made, and it’s cool meeting and talking to people on TH-cam through videos and comments. Hang in there it will come together.
Just watched this and had a few things to help you out. The hole size is dictated by psi of trans and size of stall either NA or Turbo. That range is usually (.110-.150). Set scew can be threaded into nut and placed in vice instead of wood. Always use brass set screws in pump converter feed hole simply because if you need to drill larger hole in future is easier and I have seen hardened set screws crack brittle pump passages. Amazon and eBay sell them from a pair at $5 or 100 pack at $40. The cost of 2-5 hardened drill bits is more the brass screws. The converter feed hole doesn't need drilled out when you use brass either since brass is soft and threads will smash in perfectly made from tap. Plus only run tap down hole like a few threads and it will create a stop for screw like NPT fitting. Last thing to mention is cleaning out pump holes from metal shavings which putting grease on tap will keep some debries on it. I'm thinking of creating a TH-cam channel just for transmission work since nowadays seems to be more interest. I had a video 10 years ago but the old shop didn't want recording done during work hours. Now I have my own business so will see about making one now. Good luck with your build!👍🏼
djrowe10 Man!! Thanks for the information!!! I had thought about using brass but those set screws weren’t readily available when I did this. I will order some and keep them on hand for sure now. That makes a lot more sense to be able to easily drill the hole out. I had a hard time drilling the set screws I had. I even heated one or two and quenched them in oil to retemper the steel where I could drill them. This was after I already drilled one out. I was looking for an easier way to drill them out in the future, but now I will go with brass. You should definitely start your channel back up. If you do, let me know the name and I will subscribe for sure. With the information you have shared with me I am sure everyone else would like to see/hear it as well. Thanks again for watching and sharing your experience in the comments. I am not a transmission guy, but I am learning to be and am enjoying the process. Thanks again!!!!!
Quick performance is better
@turbo-d3p thanks for the input! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!!
I keep seeing the advertisement and discounts on FB for the Aces kit. I got a small block Chevy and wouldn't mind doing this at all.
@jimmydavid8486 I am excited to get mine installed. I have seen alot of good things about these systems. Can’t wait!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
well I used pour15, yeah , I spilled it. so just used it right off the work bench, metal flakes from the drill press and all. looks good, I guess.

@compactorcompaction6539 Thanks bro!!
Nice package 😉
@compactorcompation6539 Thanks bro!!!!😂
I bought this kit on December 24th I'm still waiting for the injector harness thwy forgot to send me 😅 but besides that the harness is a 10/10 and I'm able to control the throttle body with my stock bmw pedal even tho they said it wouldn't work haha. I ls swapped a 2008 135i bmw
@ThaHammieJaassee That is awesome!! Thanks for sharing your information. I am still a little ways out of getting mine running but wanted some user feedback. Everyone that has commented so far has provided good feedback. I am very excited to get this thing installed and running. I have been checking with some guys about 3D printing me a 7” prodash insert for my S10. I can’t wait!! Thanks again for sharing and also many thanks for watching.
Haha yeah the product is great its ljke back in tje day when the holley terminator was under 1000$ now you can't find it under 2.. i wanted the 7 inch display but thwy send me a 5 inch one 😅 not the end of the world but whatever. Only thing that sucked about the kit is you can't use their map sensor on the truck manifold so I'm going to have to buy a different intake
@ThaHammieJaassee I think I am missing the gen 3 knock sensor harness, but I have my factory one. I am going to double check before I ask them if they were supposed to send one. before you buy another intake, I seen a great tip from a channel called In The Shop TV. His video is called Fabricated Sheet Metal Intake Manifolds- Should you get one? At 3:31 he shows his map sensor loose and he uses heat shrink to shim out the seal. I bookmarked it just in case I need to do the same. Check it out and I hope this works for you and saves the expense of an intake purchase……unless you need an excuse to get a new intake …lol.
@dtperformance256 yeah you're supposed to get the knock sensors they gave me a gen 3 harness for the ones in the valley and a gen 4 which go on the side 😅😅
@dtperformance256 i might try that with my intake seee if I can fit the map in it
Why engine braking
@jeepramz I am going to street drive my truck and I wanted the feel of engine braking when downshifting and letting off the gas. All this will probably go away in a year or two as I am thinking of going to a transbrake lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just got an ‘89 S10. My search brought me to your channel and found a lot of great information and building tips. The lowering blocks appear to be steel instead of aluminum blocks most use. Could you tell me the vendor/brand for lowering blocks from? Thanks
@mountainapple5638 They are steel. I went back to my link where I ordered them on eBay and couldn’t find them again. They came from wheelsnparts on eBay. They list 3” and 4” but not 2” for some reason. Try going to this link and asking them is they still have the 2” version of these blocks. www.ebay.com/str/wheelsnparts If not try calling this company as it appears they sell the same style lowering blocks. The Suspension Specialists 714.632.8400 Thanks for watching and I hope the videos help you out!!
@ thanks for the link. I found 2/3 drop kit, which I think will work. Just prefer steel blocks over aluminum. Thanks
@ mountainapple5638 Good deal. Glad you found something that will work for you.
can't wait to sit and watch this video, I've been looking hard at these for my SBC swapped S-10
@cheapskatenation With the sale at Christmas I couldn’t pass it up!!
They $270 now. That’s beyond crazy.
@GuapoDell That is crazy!!! Man I hope prices will drop on parts and stuff this year, but I doubt that will ever happen. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have the same harness haven't got around to installing it but everything looks good and for the price can't go wrong
@dennispatrick865 It does look good and yeah for the price I couldn’t pass it up. If you get yours installed before I do let me know what you think about it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@dtperformance256 I sure will
@dennispatrick865 Thanks!!
I'll have a mechanic with tools do it. 😂
@chris95952003 I hear you! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Which slip yoke are you using? Part# would help a lot
@XavierLewis-t8e I am using the counterbored Sonnax. So if you have the o-ring on your output shaft this one will slide over the o-ring groove. Even if you are not using the o-ring unless you have a straight non-oringed output shaft you will need the counterbored version. They make a non- counterbored yoke but make sure of what you have. Here is the part number to the counterbored yoke I used. Sonnax Slip Yoke T3-3-2431CBHP. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
I bought my kit when the sale started and I think it’s a great kit also going into my 1st gen s10
@nathanvillarreal7937 Thank for watching and the comment!! We will have to compare notes when we get them installed. I can’t wait to see what this kit will do! I couldn’t pass up the deal they offered at Christmas…..glad I ran across it for sure.
I wanna know how it goes.
@@cheapskatenationI will definitely post up a video when I get it running!!

What number freeze plug fits the Speedo hole thank you for the videos ?
@Nova-1977 I would have to research that. I know guys use freeze plugs, but I used the ICT Billet plug. It has an o-ring with a retainer bolt in case you want to remove it later. You can get it on Amazon. I have put the link below so you can check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting!! In your earlier video,... Sonnax case saver install TH 400..you mention the location for the .intermediate snap ring with the opening facing the twelve o'clock and here you mention three o'clock....my notes recommend "on two lugs with the gap between" ...at 2:00........not trying to bash.....just adding what I learned...I really needed a video on the case saver...Thanks...
@MarkLeedham-n8d I don’t take any feedback as bashing as I watch videos and read things that are contradictory to each other. In this video I actually called Sonnax Tech support because I was getting mixed information from manuals and other videos….not bashing anyone else either. The way I installed the intermediate was based off of the pictures that Sonnax sent me. I appreciate your input and If you see something I do that doesn’t make sense please ask me what or why I did it. I make mistakes all the time and am glad to have someone correct me if I do something wrong. That’s what TH-cam is for…. To learn. Thanks for the information and commenting, I really do appreciate it.

@Nova-1977 Thanks! And thanks for watching and commenting!!
Do the stock wheels fit or do you have to go to a bigger size rim?
@jeffturner9747 My truck had aftermarket 14” wheels that would not fit. To start the wheel has to be at least 15” to even clear the outer dimension of the brake caliper. Blazer 15” I know will fit, as you know these brakes are what Blazers came with from factory. Not sure about stock S10 wheels but if they are 15” they will clear the outer part of the caliper, but might not clear the backside of the wheel if that makes sense. Watch the second part of this video. I had issues with my Weld Pro Star front wheels clearing the front caliper bracket and I used a 1/4” spacer with longer wheel studs. I had guys on TH-cam that have done this swap say they have never seen that before so it is definitely depends on what the backspacing of the wheel is. Unfortunately I don’t have that measurement to help you out with. But thank you for watching and asking the question. I hope this helps at least a little.
Thank you for your time and information so is that bad for daily driving?
@kloochmeistah You are most welcome!! Thanks for watching!! More videos to come!!
Thanks for these videos on the swap. Have used many ideas and tips on my ls blazer swap. While my frame and engine mounting is slightly different, i decided to notch and box in the crossmember to move the engine forward the inch you spoke about in this video. Allowed me to slip the engine and trans in bolted together, and use a factor trans dipstick without touching the firewall. The rad and fans will be close, but the core support is easy to modify/ replace if needed
@1987bigredk5 Glad these videos helped you out! That was my intent when I created the channel, to learn and share. Thanks for watching and commenting!! More to come!!

@stevenmaines9114 The door window sill weather strips are made by Precision. They look and feel to be as good as any others I have installed. Unfortunately I haven’t had the truck out in the weather to test them out yet. But again they look and feel as good as any others I have seen. Thanks for watching and commenting, I hope this helps you out.
@@dtperformance256 thanks ...
@stevenmaines9114 anytime!
Them cast iron shorty headers look great and so good!!! That may be what I do to my Cast iron Shortys !
@BamaGunsOutdoors Thanks! I like them. They give me lots of clearnance under the hood. Thanks again for watching and commenting!!!
Turned out nice I just got a factory manual setup at the you pull it yard got a knee manual master less than 30 bucks in it works great
@allencobbs4047 My first V8 S10 build had manual brakes and I was gonna convert this truck to be the same set up, but junk yards are scarce in my area. That is great you got yours for auch a bargain!!!
Thanks for including us in your project!
@SummitRacing Absolutely!! You guys always have what I need with great customer support! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
lucky, I had to drill a hole in my brake pedal.
@cheapskatenation. Did you have to drill a hole in the firewall too?
@@dtperformance256 nope
I know all about this kit, worked great for me.
@cheapskatenation Thanks for the feedback! I am ready to get the truck going and test it out for sure!
Brother, that looks amazing. Lots more room to get to things. You are so welcome. Continue doing what you're doing. Love the build, and cant wait to see whats to come. Thank you for doing what you do and for being such an inspiration.
@yourpcmd Thanks. I think it turned out great! Thanks again for the manual brake kit and now again for the super thanks!! Slowly but surely it is coming together and I cant wait to get it completed. It has been a fun journey though!!
Interesting. Love the video.
@compactorcompaction6539 Thanks brother!!
Only thing I would question is the capacity of the catch can? The other is to protect the line as it looks close to the exhaust below it. Other than that it looks like a good idea!
@jeffallen3382 Yeah I am curious too as to the capacity, but all my years driving with TH350’s I don’t ever remember having one overflow out of the vent tube. This is a little different set up so we will see. I will for sure keep everyone posted. On the line close to the exhaust, I was thinking the same thing that is why I am thinking I will use a 90 degree fitting and route the overflow tube down the dipstick tube. We will see how it works. I think it is going to be ok. As always thanks for watching and commenting!!
@dtperformance256 you're welcome! Truck is coming along nicely!
