Welcome to our channel! Join us as we navigate our changing life. We purchased our Maine property in the fall of 2023. We will be building our 24’x24’ cabin and starting our homestead.
In 2022 we felt God leading us down a different path. We were building a home while awaiting the arrival of our first born. We found out our son had many abnormalities and his odds of survival weren’t good. Jase was born in July and we spent 101 days with him in the NICU before he passed away. After losing our son we knew for sure it was time for a change. He reminded us how short life can be.
In 2023 we sold our home, found out we were expecting our rainbow baby, and bought property. We then moved from Ohio to Maine to start this next chapter!
Now here we are starting 2024 off in Maine with our baby girl, Annabelle.
Follow along as we follow God and start this new adventure!
With love,
Justin, Taylor, Jase, and Annabelle

Merry Christmas | Maine Winter Wonderland
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
Today we are enjoying time together and with friends; and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Glory be to the God above who sent His only son to die for us, unworthy sinners. We are grateful everyday for the Lord's sacrifice, and today we get to dwell in that feeling and bask in the love of God!
Christmas has always been a favorite of mine, but a snowy Christmas is even better! In the past week we got a good bit of snow, and have loved exploring in this winter wonderland. Enjoy the beautiful views God blessed us with!
Remember to rejoice in the Lord today and always, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17
God bless, and Merry Christmas!
With love,
Justin, Taylor, & Annabelle

@@fabiancanada8876 Yeah I wish it was that easy though! It was an all day job I had to wheel barrow it from the concrete truck but got it done!
@@RebornOffgrid Oh wow you did it yourself?! I did the same thing and concrete can be super stressful so if you did it yourself I understand that you had no time to film. I just quoted a foundation (ICF basement) for somebody else, I hope I get it and it works out. A pump cost around 1500CAD for 1-2h so I always found ways to do it without a pump because I didn't want to spend the money. I can work pretty hard for 1500/day.
@@fabiancanada8876 Yes by myself it definitely was hard. No extra time to film for sure! Those pump trucks definitely get costly quick!
try rubbing vegetable oil on the sap that's on your skin. Helped me get all of the tar off my skin maybe it will work for sap.

how is the healthyness of that subfloor? looks kinda brown
@@manganvbg90 I actually painted it that’s why it is so dark and I taped the seams it is holding up great no swelling or issues at all! It is Advantech it is hard to beat!
@ ah, got me worried. advantech has a warranty for months out in the rain right? glad to see you having a tarp over everything now for the winter 😊
@ Yes they do I can’t remember exactly how long but they do I feel like it’s 6 or more months!
Nice work. Wouldn't it be better to use 2x10's for the rafters? You could put a ton of insulation in and they would be much stronger and never sag.
@@jamesoncross7494 2x10s take a bigger log to cut them out of so I went with what was available. These are true 3 x5” and with the knee wall braces they will never sag. As for insulation, my insulation will go above my rafters. I am leaving the rafters exposed from below so I can see my sheathing which will be pine or hemlock 1x8. So my sheathing will be my finished product for the ceiling. Great question and thanks for asking!
Why? Are you not stripping the bark off? Future problems are included as is! I’ll pray you are correct.
@@macmcdonald9347 I left the bark on the floor joists for a few reasons. One was to slow the drying of the joists. The slower they dry the less they check which improves strength. I’m not worried about rot because these will not see weather once it is sealed. I also didn’t do it at this time just to get them covered with the subfloor so the sunlight did not dry them quickly and make them bow. Leaving bark on there also keeps them from staining. Once the roof is on and they are no longer able to get moisture I will pull the bark off and they will fully dry and not stain. I have read this in older books and they seem to not have trouble. Thanks for looking out for me and asking questions!! It is much appreciated!
Going to be a beautiful house, Enjoy your videos. Tim from sebago

Thank you very much!
Looks like that Advantech subflooring has seen a fair amount of weather. How is it holding up? I am currently building a 16 x 24 "log" cabin from 6x8 ewp timbers, in central Vermont, considering using Advantech
The Advantech is holding up great I did tape the seams which I think helped the most. No swelling yet at all!
Very nice

Silly question. Why did you use the Alaskan mill ? Wouldn't the ban saw cut them easier?? Love your project! Im getting ready to build near Ashland Maine. I currently live in Ohio. Some friend or family member told me about you building up there and to check out your channel. Love the content. Keep up the inspiration my friend.
@@zombie5199 Good question! My band saw won’t cut past 17’ long. So for these sill logs they were 26’. The Alaskan mill will cut any length! Good luck on your build!
@RebornOffgrid I racked my brain trying to figure that out. Forgot about the length of the mill. Thanks for the reply.

I’m so sorry for your families loss. The cabin is coming together nicely. You are building an amazing home for your family Justin.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching all our videos and always commenting thank you!
Yeah Justin, I'm all caught up. What did you do for work, before moving to Maine. You look pretty commutable with those chainsaws. Some really nice cuts you did there. Aren't those folding ladders great. Was that your Grandpa that you lost ? God bless, he is now home. Need to speed thinks up, its only going to get colder from here on out.
I was actually a plumber, I have cut a bunch of firewood over the years though. Those ladders are the best so many uses out of one ladder!! My grandfather did pass on and had a son born sick that passed away recently as well so the writing at the beginning of this video was about them both. Thanks for the good questions!
So sorry for your loss of your son Jase and your grandfather. 🙏🏼
Thank you very much!!
One more to go, I watch through the night. Your doing things now. That's a good thing your doing there cleaning everything up and burning it, that will keep down on the ticks. You are going to have to look out for the Brown Woods Spider, if they bite you, they can make you very sick. They like to hide in your wood piles. So if you are going to use firewood to heat your cabin and you keep it outside, just beware they could be hiding in or under a piece hibernating. Then you bring it in, it warms up and it wakes up. In the spring you will have to keep an eye out for bears. You probably all ready know there are no poison ess Sake's in Maine
Thanks for all the good info! We will be burning wood for heat!
So sorry for your loss. ❤ the cabin build is progressing really nicely.
