WAIT so the item is OVER $35 and you say to pay for an account? THIS IS OVER $35 so maybe be honest
I just stumbled upon your awesome channel and I’m binge watching as much as I can. Terrific work. Did you choose the Red Fox pole strictly because you like red, or is there a specific reason? There are a ton of choices on your link. I have a few different poles, but want to try the Goture. Thanks and 73 to Radar.
Thanks and welcome, Tom! I chose that mast because a SOTA goat friend W7DLZ turned me onto it years ago. I just picked the red because it was available in a longer length at the time. Ricky Radar says hello 👋 Have a great weekend, 73
how to you crack it if its digital, thats the video we want
A trunked scanner listens to and decodes the digital control channel of a trunked radio system.
aany idea why unitrunker is not showing my sdr dongle? Itr works fine in SDR# it is an RTL-SDR v4
When you installed the driver previously, did you install the parent driver? I recommend following this guide to reinstall the driver correctly. Some of the other guides out there are having people install the driver incorrectly. www.unitrunker.com/fga-zadig.html
Is there any way to upgrade software on Mac OS?
Try using CHIRP.
@@W6IWN_Radio Thanks for our response. Tried CHIRP but evidently I need to buy a specific cable to connect radio to chirp. ‘Ll be doing that.
@@W6IWN_Radio Also, the downloadable firmware files are all .exe files that are not going to work on Mac OS.
Will this unscrambled encrypted police radio traffic?
No, that would be illegal.
@@W6IWN_Radio Is it even possible to unscramble encrripted traffic? Yes, I realize it would be illegal.
@W6IWN_Radio - Can you please tell me if I can use rain gutter as antenna for UHF/VHF ?
The HD 3 is a beast of a radio, I love mine. 73s KE8FZG
It's a great little radio!
I wish they had these in the early 90’s when I inspected soldering and trained people.
Nice microscope
Thanks, I'm really enjoying it! I was able to repair my Anytone 878 radio with it. That radio was on a shelf for 2 years.
What sun glasses are you wearing 😎
I wear Blenders sunglasses. They fit my big head the best, and they are affordable !
great setup 73 from kb2uew
Thank you 😊
ive got 2 rtl sdr v4 dongles coming..will need some help setting it up..will be monitoring p25 phase 1 700/800 system and possibly a p25 phase 2 vhf system..nc viper and virginia stars system..
Arduino is very versatile.
Yes, there are so many uses. I'm brand new to Arduino and really enjoying it so far! I've got a lot to learn...

Thanks for watching 😃
will this work with project 25 phase2?
No, UniTrunker does not directly decode or monitor conventional P25 data or audio; it can only display basic system information related to P25 systems, like talkgroups and site details, but cannot decode the actual voice communications on a P25 channel. Some claim P25 phase 1 works with Unitrunker, but I haven't tested it. Try SDRtrunk a Java trunking software. It does P25. I'm not sure about phase 2
HEY I found this old video lol
Lol, that is definitely an old one!
K6EL that is Elliot, met him on a Summit in Oakland hills Vollmer Peak.
K6EL is probably my most S2S guy. Elliott is always out there! Did you meet him on W6/NC-298? I catch him up there a lot! Great guy 👍
@ W6/NC-298 is Vollmer Peak in the Oakland Hills.
Well done. Bigger display, battery pack, keyboard for the updated ham box is gonna be epic.
You read my mind! Thanks
If you are lazy like me, you can buy a LDG 9:1 unun for about $30 that's rated for 200w SSB or 100w CW. That's what I'm using in my shack in Belgium with 58 ft radiating element and 17 ft counterpoise. Seems to work pretty well on 10m to 80m bands with the ATU in my G90. I'm mainly using VarAC to keyboard chat with operators all over northern Europe and into Spain and Italy. To keep RF from messing with my computer, I put a 1:1 unun in the line just before the 9:1 with a little coax pigtail. I just hang the wires out my upstairs window and tie the radiating element to the laurel hedge round the side of the house and the counterpoise to the front porch railing. Gotta keep it low-key around here.
Nice setup 👌 adding the 1:1 choke makes it a balun 👍 👍
How good is a performance in comparison to a radio? Since there isn't an Android version... Yet.. I'm considering on getting some type of computer to set something up like this? Does it allow sharing of broadcast remotely and or to apps like broadcastify?
The performance would depend on your computer hardware. I run trunking software on a Raspberry Pi 4, and it does fine with the waterfall display disabled. I don't own a scanner they are too expensive for what they do. Yes, you can create streams for broadcastify. I would recommend researching your local radio system to ensure it's not encrypted before you buy a PC. Mini PCs are very affordable now! I've been thinking about picking one of these up for a Windows machine. amzn.to/40ZvVWU
@W6IWN_Radio inexpensive mini PC's is also what I was thinking. I have an older scanner that sadly is outdated to be able to listen to most radio communication now in my area. prefer not becoming a computer scanner expert. If there was or is straightforward way of being able to listen to local first responder radio this way I may do it. Since you mentioned it I know some of the first responder communication is encrypted.
Hey there's Ricky radar at 26:16 minutes WOO hoo
How did you install kiwix on pi? I tried it on dragonOs It didn't work, i had to self host kiwix server on dragon os and problem with that is hard load new zim files. And does kiwix app let you make hotspot to share kiwix library with other devices?
I know very little about DragonOS, but it looks like it's Debian based. kiwix.org/en/applications/ or compile yourself from Kiwix · GitHub search.app/fzeFZRno28awHA3A9 You would have to run a local server to share with other devices. I personally don't have a Kiwix server running. You would need to research that.
@@W6IWN_Radiodragon os is based on Ubuntu I gotta try debian next it might solve the issue, its a shame dragon os doesn't support it It would of made it much more convenient
A lot of departments have been encrypting. I don't think this will work.
You can research it.
@ thanks. I have and what I was able to find it that sadly, it would cost a lot more than $35. I’d need to find something that would support APCO etc.
This is nice video where is Ricky radar
Ricky is playing with his favorite toy, the kong. Thanks for watching 😃
Nice work Derek and Bobby!
Thank you 😊
Thanks guys! Great info as always!
Thanks, Dave!
What is the reciver under the pi?
The SDR dongle is the receive hardware, the Pi does the work. I have a digirig (ham radio interface) that connects to my transceiver for Ham Radio digital modes. They both use USB-A ports.
Is that just a battery the pi is on then?
Everything in my area is encrypted! Also It looks like users need a Premium account $30 a year to get useful data. Then the price of the dongles.
That's a bummer your area is encrypted. Did you try all of the systems? www.radioreference.com offers a 15$ 6 month and a 30$ for 1 year subscription. Either auto renew, it's a 1 time fee. It does not require a subscription to use Trunking software like I mentioned in the video. It simply saves time on manually inputing the data yourself. I chose not to waste time doing that and dished out the 15$ for 6 months.
Why do they make this so complicated??
Once you play with it, you will get it. Use FLrig for your rig control program. Select FLrig as your radio in WJST-X. Hopefully that helps!
@ Ok thanks a lot. 73
I grew up listening to Police Fire and car phones on a converted tank radio in the 1960s. As Ham Radio family we all listen to calls still.
It's awesome that you use a tank radio. Ham families are the best 👌
Thank you for the info
Again. Id like to have one in the corner. But if it takes an associates degree in engineering or more than 5 mins of setup and hurt eyes. Puzzle games of coding etc. Then im not interested and never was.
very cool!
Thanks 😃
too complicated
I'm sorry you feel that way. It's really not that difficult.
Hey Bobby, this is a great video exploring and combining a lot of Ham goodness into one meshtastic result. Keep the videos coming! 73 KK7AKO
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! It's been a lot of fun and it's very useful. 73
Android can be used?
Not with Unitrunker. I'm exploring possibilities for Andriod still.
@W6IWN_Radio Thank you. Do you have an ETA on that being a possibility or how do I keep informed or possibly do my own homework? Don't want to become a specialist Just want to listen. Many of us don't have computers anymore We rely on our Android or Apple phones and or maybe a tablet.
@@W6IWN_Radiolooking forward to Android options. Do you have an ETA I subscribed to try to stay in touch up to date
Have you tried it with the ground spike?
Yes, I've used for SOTA activations with the spike.
Really nice and clean build, love the idea! Do you have a link to the fans you used? Also, I have the capability to 3D print and the CAD files would be helpful if you could share them please! New subscriber here, look forward to more of your content.
Thank you very much! Sorry I forgot to add the fans in the video description. I just added them now. Here's a link amzn.to/3PTCFzr I appreciate your sub and hope you have fun with it!
The plastics links will be up later today finally.
@@W6IWN_Radio Not a problem, thanks for the quick response.
What advantage is there for using more than one SDR dongle? I’m presuming if you use 2 that it needs a y adapter cable?
When monitoring trunked radio systems like P25, you often need two SDR dongles because the frequency range used by the system can exceed the bandwidth of a single dongle. I use 2 SDRs in different USB ports.
@ thanks for the reply. are you using one antenna with a y adapter?
Nice.
Excellent video, thank you for taking the time to make it. I wonder if there is a way to faraday this whole setup 🤔
It's funny you mentioned that. I was just looking for stuff to build a faraday box last night. You could line the whole box with metal tape.
I did see a hat where the antenna is used for DMR.
That's an SDR dongle and antenna. I passed on DMR for this build.
Love it!! Need to learn more so I can be proficient. But this was excellent!!
Play with it to learn! It's the best way 😃
Nice video, thank you. I just started using my CHA 25’ whip as an elevated vertical, using the CHA stinger kit (permanent) below the CHA MCC, screwed into the CHA ground spike. I put the ground spike into the top section of the fiberglass poles of my 16’ collapsible mast. Still working out the right lengths. Unlike your setup, I get only one band at a time. No good for SOTA, but, ok for POTA. Anyway, keep it up! KQ4IXD
Excellent setup 👌 I use the stingers at home in the HOA. I just made 6 sets of 2 wires 16.5' for counterpoise wires for mine. The weather hasn't permitted to try them yet. 73, Bobby
OK (Subscribed and Liked) for sure.. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊 much appreciated! Welcome 👋
Can you pls share the Linux image for that? 🙏
I'm still adding to it, maybe when it's done. If you pause at 18:12 , neofetch will tell you a lot about it. It's still a work in progress.
I’m here with you till the end. Thank you for sharing .
Thanks much appreciated! 😃
I see this is in windows. Will this solution work for a Mac? I already have the dongle and can hear radio stations. Looking to expand with police and fire and then others.
Not with Unitrunker. You can try SDRtrunk. It's java and multi platform. I will be doing a video on it in the future.
Hi, great video. Any comments when using the stinger kit? 73. Dave (G0BXS)
