There is something romantic about cruising over the land in our beautiful country. I do it as often as possible, while ogling at the surrounding landscapes and meeting people from all walks of life. I do have an underlying objective-an obsessive nature if you will. My eyes are always peeled for old Toyota Land Cruisers on behalf of Barnyard Cruiser customers! We love our cruisers! If I find one still rugged and able bodied to cruise the land, I bring it home and dress it up for resale. Aged and resting idle in a forgotten backyard or barn, I give it a second life as an organ transplant truck. To provide scavenged parts that will eventually rehabilitate one of our favorite old timers and keep its heart beating for years to come.
How to Swap/ Install a Modern Toyota Fuel Injected 3FE Landcruiser motor Into FJ55: The Install PT1
Ive read a lot of information about Fj55s being swapped with a later motor motor or fuel injected 3fe from a 1988-1990 FJ62. I couldn't find any real visuals on the process or if you needed to do any large modifications to make it all work. So armed with a fj55 that was sporting a old Carbbed 1F motor we tore into the old truck to figure out how to make it all work. Lots more to do but at least shes off to the races and "driving down the road" again sort off...

Awakening 1980s FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser After 15 years in a Storage Unit and Overhauling It

I recently helped a friend of mine rescue this early 1980s fj60 from a storage unit. It is sat in the unit for 15 years because of a bad heater core. I was then contracted to put it back together and provide a facelift to its old Landcruiser bones. Enjoy the story and transformation. I love the pedal remedy. I put the Holly Sniper on mine and was able to rig the stock rod linkage with heim joints. I can feel the engine move on the motor mounts through my right foot. 😅
Speed meter needle bouncing tighten the cables up.
Hey Mize, would love to see the routing you have for the DESMOG. I currently have capped every one of the ports on the carb, I have no HAC HIC, Vac advance, or anything hooked up at all. The rig runs decent once warm, but im thinking theres probably a few things on the carb I should hook up eventually. Can i drive the rig long distances with everything just capped off for now? the idle solenoid is hooked up but nothing else. every single thing is capped. Dan
Just watched. Thanks for the help. I just picked up a 1972 FJ55
Man I wish you showed your work
Slap a cummins engine on it👌
hi there , well done , there is a 53 sitting in my barn , been there around 25 years now , best to all john

These segments have been so helpful as I am completely tearing down and restoring an 85’. I’m almost done and it looks amazing. Thanks for your help!
Nice ❤
Nice
I put a 3f into a fj40 that had a 2f, was a PITA, the motor mounts on the 3f had lots of extra alternator bracket, a/c and power steer, etc. Had to make new mounts for the 3f.
A top-notch mechanic! Great video!
A great video for a five dollar truck!
Thanks for these videos. The details are wonderful; “end screws are different and look like this “ and these insights help hobby mechanics like me working on my 85 FJ60 “Wilson.”
How did you handle the radiator. I was told that you have to clearance for that somehow?
Where in South Africa can I restore my FJ 62 Landcruiser to this level?😢
Great video. There are 4 bolt holes to secure cover to engine, maybe 2 fl that connect ton air box, and a couple that are a couple of open holes in the valve cover nothing attaching to them, why is this?
Please Please a video to show how you will merge the FJ55 wiring herness to FJ62 Wiring Herness.
Nice work, could you make another video to show how you will merge the FJ55 wiring herness to FJ62 Wiring Herness.
It will be in part 2
Nice work!
Thats an achievement man well done!
so stoked to have it in the truck. just opens new doors for this rig .
Im digging it!
agreed! its so bad its great!
I love it! Those Iron pigs are awesome, but i did get a kick out of calling the 3fe "modern."😂 You wouldn't happen to have a fj80 service manual I could buy?
I mean it's modern to me ha. still a total upgrade. I don't have anything for fj80s. don't really mess to much with them .
@@mizeadventure9438 True, you mess with the great great grandpas and that takes some balls 😂
these are awesome jeeps....and they are getting more and more desirable along with their flat fender cousins (willys mb, cj2a cj3a, cj3b)...hang on to it if you can
to remove the entire engine harness from a 2f in a 85 lc does the entire da sh have to be removed?
Yes
FFS stop calling it a TRUCK. It’s just a LANDCRUISER just call it that.
its a truck
Call that a TRUCK in Australia and you’ll be laughed back to the airport you arrived from. It’s a 4 WHEEL DRIVE. Trucks are for hauling goods and towing a TRAILER
@@ToranaA9X308 well where this particular cruiser is at is in America , and the land of the free would consider that a truck "mate"
❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thanks for sharing the build. Question for you, where did you end up setting the base timing? I have a 1F in my 40 that when purchased came with an Offenhauser 4BBL intake, edelbrock carb, header and flow master installed. It idled good and sounded ok crushing but would make your eyes water it was so rich and completely gutless. I found the timing was way off from spec, like several degrees ATDC. I set it to spec, 7 BTDC and it helped enough I could start tuning the carb. Ended up at 12 BTDC and it’s good. Good power and runs smooth. Had to disable the secondary on the carb though. Just bought a Holley 2bbl to try out. I tuned a friend’s 2F that has a Rochester 2Jet on it. Ran ok but was a little rough at idle and had a flat spot. Ended up setting it to 14 BTDC and it purrs at idle and going down the road. Flat spots eliminated. If you’re still at 7BTDC, you can squeeze out some more performance with a timing change.
Lovin it Jonas! Had a few questions for you. When I drained my fuel tank the other week, I noticed dirt in the bottom of the clean drain pan from the gas. It wasn't atone but about a quarter of the pan had dirt/grime in it.. How big of a deal is this? Will the fuel filter catch dirt accumulation like this? Truck sat for a while. Probably at lease 3-5 years at one point. Cracked Rocker support. When I was installing the rocker assembly with a fellow cruiserhead one of my rocker supports got a crack in it. It toruqed down just fine, but wondierng if you've ran into this before. Thanks, Dan
With that’s much stuff (most likely rust) coming out the tank I would be pulling it to clean it out the best I can. You will have problems down the line with your fuel lines or carb clogging from that. You could pull the rear carpet up and open the fuel sending unit on the top of the tank to take a look inside of it to see how much stuff is really in there. There is also a open recall with Toyota for a new tank. But would need to call them for that. Possible your truck already had it done. Rocker support wise. I’ve seen stuff like that before and honestly I would be replacing anything that would of cracked. As if it breaks off inside the engine bit of metal could do some major damage to your engine and bearings.
@@mizeadventure9438 Thanks Jonas, appreciate it. It's the new tank, truck sat for a while. Dan
Great job as always!
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for some new content coming soon.
Love you videos... I always learn a thing or two about this old rigs
I’m so happy about that! That’s the point of these videos. I want guys to have a resource with visuals to help you work on your own stuff! stay tuned have a lot more content coming
This made me happy. You may need to swap in a master cylinder from an 80 series inorder to get the most out of the brakes. Fj Cruiser steelies will fit but you will need 1.25" spacers for the rear. I like that EFI better than the Sniper, it looks like a GM throttle body.
I thought about a different master already. The Toyota one is working fine for right now. May upgrade as the project develops. I got a good cool set of rims for the truck for PT2. It is the GM set up. I’ve worked with both the Holley and gm injection systems. I like the gm one also. I would also think parts down the road would be easier to source. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for future episodes.
This's sniper efi kit?
It is not.
So cool
Awesome work Joans!
Thanks! can't wait to have this truck finished
Exciting man
Agreed! SIKED to save another one of these trucks
Don't leave me hanging on this. I NEED to see it finished. Great job to this point.
Working on it! Promise!

Question, what did you use to connect the SBC to the Toyota transmission?
Great episode!
Another heart ❤️ transplant…Wishing you great success!!!!
I love that you used a small block 5.7 they are great engines. I know everyone uses the LS now days but I’m old school great work man!
Really good content🎉
What size lift and tires on that rig?
What did you do to it that makes it sound like that is it the cam
Can you make a video of taking off the door on a fj60
Great video, but if I were the customer watching this, I'd wonder why there wasn't a soft towel or something under the grill when laying face down on a rusty tailgate while working on it.
