    Nah it wasn't a masterpiece. The continuity and pacing was a complete disaster, and sending Ellie out on her own for most of the game made it just another revenge story. The dialogue between Joel and Ellie gave the first game so much emotional depth and so I think they missed a big opportunity not pairing Ellie up with Tommy. I'm sure people will say that would have just copied the first game but clearly it wouldn't because the dialogue between the two would have been completely different. However the Last of Us 2 World was simply amazing and the game mechanics were fantastic. A real flag in the ground on both those fronts. The one big issue I had was how controlling naughty dog were with what you could and couldn't do in the game. Even down to the fact you weren't even allowed to take Manny out, the dude who spat on Joel's body. Druckmann's moral finger wagging got on my tits to be honest.

    I know im a little late to this video - but i wanted to point something out about 343 guilty spark that ive always thought is such a cool detail. You pointed out how isolated you feel even at the start, and there's so many details that create this - no marines for the first time, no cortana talking to you, no music. But something even more sinister is that as you approach the facility, their are no elites for the first time in the game, and the grunts are running away from the building, not towards you

Story is terrible and drags, there was no dlc/online/or other game mode until the “remaster” dropped and it ruined the first game for me. Also had lots of glitches on my play throughs. So, coincidence is always a thing in stories. It’s literally in every story, if there aren’t coincidences the story can’t happen. But it’s super disingenuous to knock on a story just because of coincidences when you wouldn’t do it to another story just because you don’t like the coincidences that took place for the story to happen. Also, clearly you did not pay attention to the scene of Abby killing Joel from their perspective. Owen was the one that said that they shouldn’t kill Ellie. When everyone else, including Mel wanted to kill her. As we see later with Owen not killing the old man scar he doesn’t like killing people he feel doesn’t deserve it, he’s also not as deep into being a “soldier” as the rest of them. He wasn’t really into it, he did out of necessity and most likely just to be with Abby. Which is why we see him wanting to skip training and convincing Abby to stay longer with him at the aquarium. It’s also why Owen wants to leave and go to Santa Barbara. Owen was more aligned with the actual ideas of the fireflies, of wanting to save the world and actually do good things for the people. Even though most of the fireflies didn’t really care and just liked the freedom and were tired of being treated like shit by Fedra. So the reason they did not kill Ellie is because of Owen. Owen was willing to let himself get killed just to save a girl he didn’t even know. He was with Abby for her, while yes he probably wanted Joel dead too it was very clear the way they did it messed with him. Owen was a voice of reason for Abby but she didn’t always listen due to her emotions and drive for revenge getting in the way. But the same way Owen stopped Ellie from getting killed, Lev stopped Dina from getting killed. Which is why Abby grew attached to Lev, Abby was deep down a good person but she blinded herself on the training and the revenge because of the death of her Father, who before that was always teaching her to be a good person, to help others. But without him Owen was the only one there and clearly their relationship wasn’t the greatest, most likely because Owen wasn’t exactly for the whole revenge thing.

    • @Soma-vd3lp
      @Soma-vd3lp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marcushenderson1741 gameplay wise it’s amazing, there’s nothing like it. But story wise I get the hating Joel’s death but videos like this and the people who think like this I just don’t think the story is for them, and that’s okay. It just feels disingenuous to pretty much nitpick plot points in a way you wouldn’t on a story you love. You can pick apart any story like this but that’s not fun to do, if you sit there and say “well this is too much of a coincidence” or “this just isn’t believable” every story will eventually fall apart, because Authors write the story in a way and it’s not often not meant to be taken apart like this. It’s taken as it is. And people can say the story wasn’t made for them and it wasn’t, authors write for themselves as much as they write for fans. Neil even says he made the game how it was because of his own thoughts at the time and he was really into the cycle of violence and the consequences. They could’ve easily made another game where Joel and Ellie go on another adventure or something but they didn’t, and that’s why I love it. I was also pissed off when Joel died, which is what the writers want. So as Ellie you wanna kill those people as much as she does. But then Jessie dies, Dina, Ellie, and Tommy are all wounded horribly. And you sit there and think “going after Abby was not worth it”. Because you can say “Abby is a monster she’s hurting these people” but Ellie just did the same thing. You just did the same thing. While Ellie was in that place Abby was before killing Joel, Abby was learning to let it go and finding meaning in another way, in someone else. So after Ellie gives up this beautiful life with Dina and a child for revenge and she finally gets to Abby but sees that she is only protecting that kid at that point it’s similar to Joel and Ellie. She has that realization right before killing Abby that killing her isn’t gonna make the pain stop. And we see with Abby still having nightmares about her dad’s death and killing Joel that it did not solve anything. Only after the act and saving Lev and Yara does she finally move on from it. It’s a story that if you don’t care Abby and if you’re not willing to see it from her point of view as well as Ellie’s then it’s not gonna hit for you. I think they made a fantastic story and game that was always doomed to be controversial and they knew that. And I love it for taking that risk and doing what they wanted to do. Because at the end of day if you want Joel and Ellie the 1st game is always there. And no return having all the different characters to play as including Joel basically gives you the Joel gameplay you want. And not mention in the midst of all this crazy story they somehow made a John wick simulator 😭 sorry for all of this

    One thing I liked about this is how you always refered to the Infected by their given moniker or just "Infected". I find it annoying how the term zombie is just thrown everywhere when alot of sick, mutated, or infected monsters in games, shows, movies, books aren't zombies. Zombies are decomposing festering corpses, but in Last of Us, the fungus is keeping the body alive, in Dying light, its a rabies, a vast majority of Resident Evil monsters aren't the popculture zombie types you encounter in the start. And whats more annoying is how most people mock the usage of monikers or the term Infected and they go "oh sorry, not zombies, "iNfEcTeD" ". And its just dumb cause if you refer to everything as just zombies, what type? I'mma assume you mean Walkers so I'll be a little confident, but oh no, it turns out to be 28 weeks later Infected and now I wasn't prepared. Just a rant, loved the video

    This was the worst questline in Starfield for plot reasons. Think about it. You join the UC Vanguard to work as a combat pilot. They issue you a sidearm. Now go run around planets fighting giant monsters. "What are your qualifications?" "I'm a pilot." "Perfect. Here's a pistol. We need space marines." The person or people responsible for the plot of this questline are completely clueless.

The way I see it, there's difficulty options for those that just want to enjoy the story, and there's options for those that want more strategy and planning involved. Not everyone is good at strategizing, and others just don't really find it fun. Im glad we have the choice to play with supplies being abundant. I can focus on the story my first play through, and more on strategy the second time through :)

    I do agree that it made no sense that when Joel and Ellie arrived at Jackson’s in part 1 they were met with guns at gunpoint and in part 2 when they meet Abby running around there outposts armed and their first thought is to invite this armed group of military aged people they don’t know back with them ⁉️

    • @marcushenderson1741
      @marcushenderson1741 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they were at the dam when met with guns and i think bandits were constantly attacking them at that point so they were on alert. Also everybody is armed in this world. Inviting them back proves the "he got comfortable over time" theory on top of the fact he said he hasn't seen a bloater in a while in the flash backs. going on patrols were the only action he can get.

    playing on grounded+ definitely has that horror aspect even more so than part 1‼️, trying to get past 10+ stalkers in the dark without having listen mode to scan or see enemies is extremely difficult and tense‼️ If you can take down a horde of infected and still have materials and ammo left to push forward your most likely playing on the lower difficulties. I been playing on grounded+ and I barely have enough to take down 1 or 2 runners before i almost always inevitably have to resort to stealth and or running past infected just to progress through a certain part💯 but the game is about having fun of fun for you is a more stealthy approach while being tense and scared turn on grounded+ if you like loud action packed combat and gun fighting then turn on one of the lower difficulties he’ll they even have gameplay modifiers where you can have infinite ammo, slow mo aiming, one shit kills, infinite melee, etc play what’s fun for you ‼️

    I’ve played through each game multiple times I wanna say the first game at least 6 and the second maybe 3-4, and I side with Joel on his decision, yes he took Ellie’s choice away but there were so many variables with the potential cure, like it’s not like the fireflies had good intentions and maybe they would have with held the cure or maybe there would have been people out there who would have refused to change the world. I also think Ellie’s venture for revenge went too far and I ended up siding with Abby even thought of course killing Joel sucked

  • @oogabooga4137
    @oogabooga4137 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m only 1/4 of the way through but I wanted to leave this comment before I forgot: Abby never knew where Joel was. She found out where Tommy was because some fireflies visited Jackson and told her that it may have been Joel’s brother. Owen and Abby were arguing about it at the aquarium during Christmas. “You don’t even know if he’s (Tommy) there.” “Based on a rumour?” And that’s when Abby gives him the “it’s a lead, I have to follow it.” That he gives back to her when talking about finding the fireflies. I don’t think it’s THAT coincidental that Abby found out. Her entire life was dedicated to getting revenge on Joel after Jerry died, same as how Ellie’s was about getting revenge for Joel after he passed. There was the recorder that Ellie found at the hospital talking about how the fireflies split and some wanted to hunt down Joel. They may have been dying out, but there was still enough to leave them scattered, and the hospital is not that far from Jackson. It’s not that far of a stretch to believe that Abby wasn’t the only one that wanted revenge on Joel. So i think it makes sense that fireflies would find Tommy, but they may also, have a goal to some degree of wanting to find Joel still. I’ll give you that it’s coincidental that it was Joel and Tommy that found Abby, but she was bound to find someone being so close to town. And it also bothers me that nobody remembers that it’s Tommy that tells Abby’s group their names. Joel never gave his name. It was Tommy that said “I’m Tommy and this is my brother Joel.” They had no choice but to go back to Abby’s group because of the blizzards and the hoards, saying they’d never make it back. Even then, it does make sense that Joel wouldn’t be in the right head space to think the way he did in the first game. He’s not in survival mode as much as he used go be, he can feel safer in Jackson. Besides, as far as he knew, he killed Marlene and covered the biggest portion of his tracks. Nobody knew his name, they only called him “the smuggler” in the end of the first game. I feel like all these things helped him relax a little throughout the years. He’s also getting into his 50s, and remember that he JUST had a really emotional night with Ellie. That may have been what kept his head out of the game. Like I get that this can seem like a stretch, but putting all the little things together, it doesn’t seem like THAT much of a coincidence. Neither does Mel getting pregnant. But that’s a whole other can of worms. I think there’s some real critique on the beginning of the games, but this stuff just bothers me.
