What a beauty this bike is! and 72 years old today! Ordered as a special specification machine from Vincent's Black Lightning department for the TT. As I understand it, the bike was never raced on the Island in the end, but now it has been completely restored to a very high standard bringing it back to its former glory, and then some. In this video we were running it up for the first time on ou...

I’m sure this guy knows what he’s doing, but what’s all the revving before he takes off? What advantage does it give? Genuine question.
Bait and switch . Who posts a dyno run without any numbers . The title is misleading . I'm guess in 70 RWHP MAYBE ?
New engine was being run in so not looking for hp numbers.
So government policy is doing well ,cut pensioners cold weather payments work out how to tax them more and putting up economic illegal migrants in hotels and then wondering why British citizens are not happy!
How Lucky For Everyone Involved! Thanks For Sharing.
They should bottle that sound!. What a great sounding bike. It sounds better than my 1958 Matchless 500 cc single cylinder.
Nice.
Super smooth riding on the beemer.
Having recently rebuilt my twin cam Dyna ( which I 💖) I notice that the 70+ year old Vincent actually looks more modern
Agreed but I can't help thinking thar Sportsters have a lot in common more than big twins - I have both !
Would like to see how it effects mpg
Can the software be tuned without internet on the go?
Sure, you dont need an internet connection.
The Numbers??????
What numbers?
sounds beautiful 👌🏻something about those old 1000's that one and the Ariel square 4...they were just both before their time
Amal carbs are far better & easy to tune than copycat jap mikunis 💋
Gorgeous bike! And I loooooove that exhaust note! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
totally agree
We understand that you were just breaking the bike in and not looking for any numbers. JUST TELL US WHAT THE FRIGGING NUMBER WAS!
I'm not sure you understand how a dyno is used, it doesn't give HP numbers unless you make a power run, which is conducted from low revs in top gear to maximum revs at full throttle. A calculation is then made by the software and a graph showing various readings, including hp is produced. That is not what we were doing here, we were using it as a rolling road so THERE ARE NO NUMBERS. If you want to see a power run on a Vincent (with hp numbers) take a look at our other video here: th-cam.com/video/J116vTLbauk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IRkkWkvNtcEo0xr6
@@kinghamracing OK. I was sort of giving you a hard time as everyone was screaming for numbers. If you ever do get the HP of that bike though we would all like to know where it stands.
Can anybody give a brief rundown of bikes and overall value please? Not sure what I'm looking at.
A bit misleading considering the title states ’on the dyno’ Not cool.
? It is on the dyno..
I’m calling BS. 🐂💩
Wie kann ich die Zündspule bestellen ?
The coil kit on its own is here: www.bskspeedworks.co.uk/k-ignition-coil-ht-leads.html
Billshyte……no numbers…. The myth continues…… Maybe ….50kw if you’re lucky…..😉
I will say it again...as mentioned in the description, we were running in a newly built engine, not looking for HP numbers.
Total nerd here... only know about the Black Shadow thanks to Doctor Who. :) Amazing bike tho.
It often sounded like the ignition was breaking down.
Hi, I have a custom K100 2V and I was wondering if it would be possible to use your kit together with the 2v throttle bodies by adapting the TPS to them. I guess the power gain is mostly because of the leaner mixture and not only because of the larger 4V throttle bodies (although that has a similar outcome)? Theoretically you’d have better torque at low ends with the standard tb‘s because of the faster flowing air at the smaller diameter… Cheers, Richard
Yes that would work, if you can adapt the 16v TPS to fit the 8v throttle bodies. Performance gain on 1mm smaller/larger TB's is probably negligible.
@@kinghamracing thanks for the information. You will probably here from me again in the next winter ;)
I know everyone drools over them. But I don’t get it
The Vincent Black Lightning was the "fastest production motorcycle" for decades because Rollie Free rode one nearly naked, lying on the rear fender to a top speed of 150mph at Bonneville in 1948. This wasnt surpassed until the appearance of modern 4-cylinder Japanese bikes in the 1980s.
Would I prefer it to my original unrestricted gen1 Busa?.. Maybe..
TBH, isn't that like comparing apples to oranges?
@@peterlarsen7779 Yes! very much, but would I? I'm not sure, it would be like deciding whether I want an apple or an orange <grin>
What a beautiful sound.
I would never have thought a Vincent would use Mikuni carbs……but hey…..I put one on my Norton.
Why is the gear-changing necessary? Surely the peak power is the same in any gear?
You can't start the bike in top gear, need to start off in 1st or 2nd. We are not measuring peak power here but if we were it would be done in top gear.
I believe transmissions are the most efficient in top gear where there is no reduction through the gears. The input and output shaft are locked together and the power is not transferred through the countershaft.
When dynoing a bike (or any vehicle) you need it to be in the gear that is the closest to 1:1 ratio for a proper test. A lower gear will reduce the power figures.
Beautifully well ridden- very smooth
My guess, it will be 58hp at the wheel.
An XLCH had numbers like that Terry. The Vincent must be something above that. Interesting to speculate. My guess the Vinny would be 74. But 58 is likely too. Greetings from Maryland
Sounds perfectly! How many hp and rpm;
One of the greatest bikes of all time.
Looks like the Manx's and the like had the ability to brake later and keep the revs up compared to the Vincent? You could hear the 500cc Manx's on the revs out of the bends but the big Vincent seemed to drop out of the power band? Only on the longish straight did the extra beef of the Vinnie tell and he could pass the littler bikes
That's about right, depends on the circuit, but the Manx's are lighter and have better brakes. Some have 6 speed gearbox too. With the Vincent we are limited by the rules and must use the original brakes.
Cool !
Wow. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful run, using every inch .
Wow! . Although he forgot to engage the traction control when pulling off 😊
What a lovely sound.
Around 1986 I had a chance to buy one in Long Beach CA that was in 2 separate halves but in much better condition than that. $5k but I simply didn't have the cash. Oh well. I'm guessing that resto cost about $50k.
Sounds great and still a real mover ey
I understand the Lightnings were designed to run on Methanol. Should produce 70 HP.
All that and not one number
As mentioned in the description, we were running in a newly built engine, not looking for HP numbers.
Are you able to use this install to later map burble tune?
There is a pop/bang mode in the software, yes.
If you install this with m-unit will you still need the relays? or can you wire it without them. I rewired my bike with no relay's except the temp sensor unit for the cooling fan. @@kinghamracing
You would only need a relay for the fuel pump and the cooling fan. Both of which are run by the ecu and can be set in the software. You can set prime time for the fuel pump at key on and the temp at which the fan comes on and off. The system uses the stock K water temp sensor.@@mechealkolefire1574
@@kinghamracing if you use the coils from this kit with stock wiring how would you Ground the coils? I see it only has three wires with new coils. Or is there a ground wire in the new coils I’m not seeing?
@@mechealkolefire1574 Ground wire is not required, but the coil is grounded through the bolt to the bell housing.
K100 8V had originall 90 HP. Why had this engine befor only 68hp? If all would have been okay, the increasement would have been only 3hp?
they were quoted as 90hp at the crank, which is around 75hp at the rear wheel. Our dyno is reading rear wheel hp.
Impressed by the speed on the Manx!
40
I have a question: Assume you have a 8 valve K bike and I see you have pod filters and I wonder how do you place/connect your MAF sensor ( the unit sitting the original air filter box. Thanks very much and it's a cool video that K bikes finally have some mod to go fast 👍
The system means you don't need to fit the MAF, so you can fit pod filters if you wish or any type of air intake. at 5:20 into the vid you can see the parts from the stock system that are no longer needed. Thanks.
@@kinghamracing I'm assuming that's the same for the K75?
Yes regarding the MAF/AFM. With the K75 you still need a set of 16v Throttle bodies, just with #1 TB removed.@@emmanuelreynoso5770
@@kinghamracing y'all are the best, especially with the replies tysm

a lot of vintage race enthusiasts have got quite fat tummies - known as "beer guts" - although you can't really see them in this video... shame, as some of them are quite spectacular!
