  • What a beauty this bike is! and 72 years old today! Ordered as a special specification machine from Vincent's Black Lightning department for the TT. As I understand it, the bike was never raced on the Island in the end, but now it has been completely restored to a very high standard bringing it back to its former glory, and then some. In this video we were running it up for the first time on our rolling road and running in the newly built engine. This was about 3 or 4 days into the process, being mindful of heat cycles, throttle openings and revs.

    All that and not one number

      As mentioned in the description, we were running in a newly built engine, not looking for HP numbers.

    That was my question too, my guess is 67 at the wheel :)

      Good guess. I'm guessing between 65 and 75. Beautiful bike. Be gentle, I know you are.

    Why is the gear-changing necessary? Surely the peak power is the same in any gear?

    • @kinghamracing
      @kinghamracing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can't start the bike in top gear, need to start off in 1st or 2nd. We are not measuring peak power here but if we were it would be done in top gear.

      I believe transmissions are the most efficient in top gear where there is no reduction through the gears. The input and output shaft are locked together and the power is not transferred through the countershaft.

      When dynoing a bike (or any vehicle) you need it to be in the gear that is the closest to 1:1 ratio for a proper test. A lower gear will reduce the power figures.

    It often sounded like the ignition was breaking down.

      @@peterlarsen7779 Yes! very much, but would I? I'm not sure, it would be like deciding whether I want an apple or an orange

    We understand that you were just breaking the bike in and not looking for any numbers. JUST TELL US WHAT THE FRIGGING NUMBER WAS!

    • @kinghamracing
      @kinghamracing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm not sure you understand how a dyno is used, it doesn't give HP numbers unless you make a power run, which is conducted from low revs in top gear to maximum revs at full throttle. A calculation is then made by the software and a graph showing various readings, including hp is produced. That is not what we were doing here, we were using it as a rolling road so THERE ARE NO NUMBERS. If you want to see a power run on a Vincent (with hp numbers) take a look at our other video here: th-cam.com/video/J116vTLbauk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IRkkWkvNtcEo0xr6

      @@kinghamracing OK. I was sort of giving you a hard time as everyone was screaming for numbers. If you ever do get the HP of that bike though we would all like to know where it stands.

    My guess, it will be 58hp at the wheel.

    • @douglas9607
      @douglas9607 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An XLCH had numbers like that Terry. The Vincent must be something above that. Interesting to speculate. My guess the Vinny would be 74. But 58 is likely too. Greetings from Maryland
