Golfing 18 Holes at Cross Creek Golf Course in Dallas Oregon
Golfing all 18 holes of the Cross Creek Golf Course in Dallas, Oregon. This is a late October, early morning round. I was at a 15 handicap when I teed off in the 36 degree temps. It went about how one would expect.
This is a really great course run by some of the nicest folks around. There is a full driving range (mats in winter), carts, stocked clubhouse, and Boneyard RPM on tap. Cross Creek is 100% worth the trip west of Salem off of I-5.

Golfing from the Blue Tees for First Time (14 Handicap)

I golf the front 9 at Creekside Golf Club from the blue tees for the first time. The white tees I have been playing measure out at roughly 5,900 yards. The move to the blue tees pushes that to 6,500 yards, so not insignificant. New angles, new hazards, different club selection, and a fair bit of guess work actually make for a fun time on the course. This is a mid-October round played in the eve...

      It's a very fun course in my opinion, but I don't disagree with you on 10 and 18. The tee shot on 10 is more demanding than it seems, especially if you want to be anywhere near 150y or less in. The hill to the green on 18 is just cruel and unusual punishment at the end of a very hilly back 9. But I'll keep going there! Thanks for watching and the sub!

    I think everyone should play back (or even forward) a tee sometimes just to get a different feel of a course and to test themselves (as long as they are keeping pace of play). The first time I broke 80 was when I, on a whim, played the tips at a local track, around 7000 yards. I felt like I could actually use my driver distance without bringing in too much trouble and actually got to use all the clubs in my bag at least once, which is rare for me.

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Completely agree with everything you said. Once I got over the completely self-manufactured anxiety over moving back I made the same discovery as you that doing so had eliminated a lot of hazards that are in play when I move forward. Good times! Thanks for watching

    6500 yrds is a normal "mens" or low handicap distance.. i just play whatever i feel for the day, and what i am working on.. forward tees mid to long irons, back tees driver and long irons.. good content showing actual golf shots..

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I generally try to play between 5,800 and 6,400. It really depends on the course. After a stretch of playing better golf (for me) I wanted to see what impact moving back would have on my scores because an additional 400 yards spread over 18 holes doesn't sound like much. But when you combine having to generally club up one or two, with new angles that are in some cases tighter than from the next tees forward, it does get tougher. It is just a game though, so I'm like you and will play whatever tees I feel like playing on any given day. Thanks for watching!

      She can really show out in the fall with the color change. It's really a great club course because of the variety it can present. I'm going to try to record more of the back 9, but it gets difficult as the days grow shorter because it isn't as compact as the front and plays longer than its yardage.

    I remember the first time I played creekside from the blacks. Some holes were hardly any different than the whites, but other holes like 5 were incredibly difficult, especially off the tee. I usually play the blues at creekside currently and I definitely can say even whites to blues can be a scary jump

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've played several rounds of 18 now from the blues and the funny thing I've noticed is that a lot of the holes play easier from the blues because they eliminate trouble, so it doesn't surprise me that some of the tips don't change the holes too much. Like you said, the biggest difference is the difficulty of some of the tee shots increases (bad for me, since tee shots are one of my biggest inconsistencies).

    • @stovergolfshorts
      @stovergolfshorts 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    That's an admirable goal, Mike. I have a Google map saved with out-of-the-way golf courses in Oregon. Several are pretty wild. I'll be eagerly awaiting the video on Kinzua Hills Golf Course, a 6-hole layout with two fairways that cross one another in Fossil, Oregon. Another fun one will be Salmon Run. Don and Pete Golf Oregon seems to have fizzled out, which makes sense because the guys were older and had health issues. But it is probably the best resource for the course-seeker in our home state.

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooh, this is great info! I was just going off of the OGA list which I know is not 100% accurate or current, but it's the best I could readily find. In the past I checked in on Don and Pete's progress here and there, but didn't follow too closely. You point out the tough part, which is that Oregon is roughly 300x400 miles and several courses are in areas where I would have no other reason to be traveling to. My trips to those areas will likely have to be quick weekend golf blitzes of 2 or 3 courses along the way, and as I can get the time away. The trip to Lake County to play a goat track is a hard sell to my wife! This is definitely not a 1 year or even 5 year kind of goal. It's more of a "by the time I'm 65" thing if I'm being realistic. It's just a fun way for me to organize the TH-cam thing and have a unique spin that no one else has done. I'm checking off the easy courses near me first, and picking up others as I can. Thanks!

      Ha! I'll be there Thurs/Fri the week before Thanksgiving this year. Honestly, throw handicap out the window while you're there and just soak in the experience. Enjoy and thanks for the watch and comment!

    i like the camera mounted to the push cart. ive thought about trying that. i just have a mount on my bag and carry the whole round. do you carry a tripod as well for spots you cant get the whole push cart onto?

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been using a version of this setup since my very first video and am really comfortable using it, especially since it's so discreet. For a while I had another small tripod and would switch over mostly for putts, but then I got tired of the hassle and just learned to work around it or do without. That's why occasionally there will be a shot where you don't have a view of full ball flight, or putting looks like it's shot through a telescope. As you a fully aware, recording a round takes a fair amount of focus and thought while you're trying to play as well. My whole approach on course has been to simplify it as much as possible and minimize the distraction--it also keeps it fun to record rounds. The next upgrade is to a DJI Mini, so I have one less distraction (camera leveling each shot) to worry about.

    While putting on the 9th green we saw that a starter was at the 1st tee announcing each of the afternoon groupings for the Emerald Valley GC Championship and realized that explained why there were so many tucked pins and pins sitting on really tough positions. I think all the flags were the same color too, which should have been the giveaway. Oh well! Great course, great company, and definitely on the list of courses to return to soon. edit: what do you think of the dot/circle tracer on non-tee shots? Yes? No? You suck and should stop posting on TH-cam? Casually cruel indifference to what I do with my own channel?

    I have a summer home outside of Talent, Oregon, so I know Eagle Point well. That footage you lost on #2? Are you sure you didn't hook one into the water on the right? That's where my balls always seem to go. Another great video. It looks like your game is getting dialed, Mike. Eagle Point also has Stone Ridge golf course, which is a lot of fun with some good elevation changes. It's less watered (on most holes) so you can still get good roll out. The Palmer-design course at Running Y in Klamath is fun, too.

    • @MikeGolfsOregon
      @MikeGolfsOregon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% positive that this lefty sliced my #2 tee ball well into the #1 fairway! It was both impressive for how much it curved and embarrassing for having to step in front of the players on #1 tee. But the hybrid second was sweet! Last time I was down in the area I had to cancel my tee time due to scheduling, but I did have time to hit the range at Stone Ridge. I talked to the pro about the course and would have played there instead of Eagle Point but for the inability to get a desireable tee time. The folks I played EP with raved about Running Y. I want to get down there and play it. Thanks!
