Ouch, Rios got COOKED. to be fair though, all the footage of him kinda looks like it'd be more at home in an Elite: Dangerous movie than Star Trek, so yeah, deserved.
Bless his heart
Janeway is pretty dang cool
I love banjo kazooie but most definitely tooie is much better and my preference
I've always thought so, I'm playing through it right now in preparation for the next video and it definitely holds up
Saying tooie is better.. is just… interesting
Stay tuned, got a video on tooie coming soon ;)
I find a great charm in Rusty Bucket Bay
How did you not know that Solar was the sun of The Lilat System? Even as a kid I knew that, I mean it's literally right there in the middle of the system, didn't you grow up seeing models of our solar system in school classrooms?
i used to really suck at this game but then i figured out soft holding the a button does a rapid fire shot
I still think that Star Fox 64 is peak video game story telling. It does so much with so little. And because of how little it gives you to work with, you will fill in the gaps based on your own individual player experience. There is simply not enough hard answers in the game to refute your own head-canons and that makes the viewer interpretation way more meaningful than any hard answers.
I completely agree, it's a very unique style of storytelling
@@ivanavi123 What I remember when I played the game was that I was under the impression that the red scores and medals were an indication that Fox was feeling good about the results in so far that it was him thinking that he was able to do that particular mission at least as good as his Father would have handled it. A lot of characters speak to Fox about his Father throughout the game, but friend or foe, Fox consistently pretends that he is not hearing it, as he never replies to any of it. His silence spoke volumes to me, because it made me think that it really does get to him, as he does not see himself as the hero the Lylat System deserved, but only the one that they will have to make due with, and despite how much of a front he gives, he thinks of himself as a loser, almost as if he never got the chance to hear his father tell him that he was proud of him. I was under the impression that when Fox says "I'll go it alone from here." He said that with the full intention that he would die in that tunnel. He had become confident enough in his ability that he would be able to kill Andross, but did not believe he was strong enough to live. How could he, think he could ever accomplish that, after all, James didn't. My experience with the tunnel escape sequence where James appears was that I was under the impression that, the James we see is not a ghost, or a secretly totally still alive James, but rather that it is all in Fox's head, because the James we see and hear is simply a direct visual and audio manifestation of Fox's INSTINCTS, instincts which were given to him by his Father. When the music cuts out and we hear the line "You've become so strong, Fox", is the moment that Fox accepts that he was wrong about himself and truly understands and believes that his Father would have been proud to know that Fox was better than him, and has always believed that Fox would be one day. And nothing that the sequels, or reboots, or supplementary material might suggest otherwise can take away that experience or interpretation away from me.
I saw a comment once saying that there should be a Star Fox movie, but I doubt this will ever happen, since it would be too similar to Guardians of the Galaxy.
I would give my life for a Star Fox movie
The most underrated masterpiece
This guy gets it
I subscribed for the two Star Trek clips in the first ten seconds and stayed for the amazing retrospective.
I think you might enjoy my next video... thank you so much for the comment and subscription!
Please do a video essay on mgs 5 phantom pain and God of war 2018😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤤🇺🇸😋👹🤤
Please do a video essay on Mass effect legendary edition 😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣😭🤣🤤😋😍🍑
Such a great overview video! Like you said multiple times, the voice acting, environments and controls all come together so amazingly for each level. I had no idea you could repair your ship in the Great Fox! I'm not nostolgic for this game at all, but its easily one of my favorite games. I always urge people to play it because its so cinematic and good for small sessions. Even though I've played each route mutiple times, it was really nice to hear anothers opinion on them. Nice video!
Thanks so much! The fact that you like it so much without nostalgia is a testament to its lasting quality.
I can't stopppp iiitttttttttt
Had the exact same experience with the notes and the ice on Click Clock Wood.

For 1991 this game was absolutely mind blowing for it's time! I grew up with all the classic Sonic games and I like them all for their own individual reasons, Sonic 1 is the beginning and because of that, the most unique I feel. If I had a nickel for every youtuber who says they thought you were supposed to try and just rush through the game I'd have... well about five bucks lol but still. See back then when you were a kid and had like 3 games total to play this was it and you had to sit down and play it over and over until you were finally good enough to beat it in one go but we didn't care, it was amazing just to have a quality game like this in your own home that you could play any time you wanted and so we did! As you get better you notice that you're getting through obstacles more quickly and effortlessly and it was fun to show off your Sonic skills to your friends and siblings because you looked cool as hell playing it! All of your criticisms are absolutely valid but I think you can see why this game was such a big deal back then. I grew up with both the SEGA and Super Nintendo so I never thought Sonic was better than Mario or vice versa, I loved both consoles equally for different reasons. I can see why some people don't like Sonic but I think the kinds of people who say "Sonic was never good" are the kinds of people who are just negative for the sake of being negative ESPECIALLY because Sonic 2 and 3 exist!
Thanks for the comment! I love hearing about people's experiences with games like this. It's a mega classic for a reason!
The ghosts can be killed with the wonderwing
As can the mummies and skeletons
That would have been VERY good to know
37:54 If you look above the Great Fox's wing, you'll see a shooting star, that's James McCloud as it only appears in this ending. And Solar is a fire planet, that's canon. Nintendo does that in their games.
That's a really cool detail, I never noticed that! As for Solar, the official guide for 64 calls it a star, but I think command later calls it a planet. Guess they couldn't make up their minds lol
@@ivanavi123 Yeah Command shows to have patches of land on Solar and Wolf calls it a planet. It's like Planet Hotbeat from Kirby Super Star like you got the grass planet, the water planet, so of course there's the fire one which happens to be in the middle of the planet system like Solar.
the entire premise and visual design of CCW is awesome. but going back and doing that level definitely sucks especially if youre like me who has lost their ability in platforming lol. i was doing a 100% run on stream and i think i died more in CCW than i did in rusty bucket
I agree with you completely, my only problem with it is that it just isn't fun lol
The south is better then the north they are actually trying to stop baby killing.
banjo kazooie is my favourite game :D
It's excellent for sure!
Great Video! 👍
Thank you!
The algorithm worked for once. This is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm glad I found your channel! Subbed, and gonna watch through your back catalog of vids lol
Thanks so much, that's very kind of you!
Feedback: Please don't ask for a like and subscribe within the first two and a half minutes of a 40 minute video. Not meant to be an aggressive statement, just giving honest feedback. If someone dips out before the midway point, they probably didn't like the video anyways.
Thanks for the feedback~
I hope we get the definitive Star Fox reboot with a Star Fox 64 remake on the switch 2 and launches this series to the space and beyond!!
At this point I'll take anything lol
Another great video!
Thanks!
22:59 They retconned it to not be a star in later titles, most notably Star Fox Command, so you aren't crazy to not think it was a star. 23:53 There's ton of "hidden" lore around this particular mission, namely that Vulcain, the boss from Solar, was supposed to be the aforementioned Secret Weapon, not Spyborg, and which boss you fought depended on how you got to Sector X, so if you failed Katina, you would fight Vulcain, but if you failed Fortuna (which is actually mistranslated, its supposed to be Fichina) you would fight Spyborg instead. 36:18 There's some more "hidden" lore that can only be found in game guides and the such (or the wiki) which is that if you end up at Venom 1 (accessed via Bolse) then you give Andross enough time to prepare a decoy because he knows you are coming and his forces have mustered enough strength to hold you off until he can escape. Meanwhile, if you end up at Venom 2 (accessed via Area 6) then you have destroyed enough of his forces, fast enough, that he doesn't have enough time to escape which is why his last line of defense is just Star Wolf in heavily modified and upgraded ships. The ingame story is basically that if you fail at Macbeth or end up at Titania, you take too long to get to Venom (due to having to rescue Slippy at Titania) or you weren't able to disrupt Andross' manufacturing capacity enough (failing Macbeth) that Area 6 is now too fortified for you to assault. If you fail Sector Z, the story is that you don't have the ordinance without Great Fox to attack Area 6. You can actually see this in game, as Area 6 is the only mission where Great Fox will actually attack enemies.
A wonderful summary of everything that makes this game a classic. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Thanks, that's very kind of you!
What age were your nightmares? (I just subscribed so you should answer haha)
I was in my early teens lol, probably 13 or 14
@@ivanavi123 haha that’s not that bad I was expecting like 16
< 150 subscribers? Damn this was a great vid, keep it up!
Thanks! I appreciate that
I remember having this game the year it came out christmas morning. Lylat Wars as it was known her in blighty, it blew my mind as it was the first game i'd ever played that was fully voice acted. I still return to it when i get the opportunity and it probably is in my top ten games of all time. Thank you for this video you have a new subscriber :)
Thanks! It's been awesome to hear from all the people who have good memories of this game like me
Great video! Starfox 64 was my favorite game I had ever played for for over 20 years, until I played dark souls in 2017. Starfox is still in my top three of all time! I think it has aged the best of any game from the Nintendo 64 era, as well.
Thanks, I appreciate that! I agree, it holds up really well.
Well done.
I agree with most in this video, especially the last statement. Both BK and BT are A class games, but BT is an A+.
I remember sector Z being the hardest to get the medal
Falco is my favorite video game character of all time. Awesome video man, this game is truly a masterpiece and also a massive part of my childhood as well. “Sorry to jet, but I’m in a hurry!”
Also FOX too. Maybe more than falco possibly. And peppy. And slippy. Gosh I love them all really!!!
Excellent video. Star Fox was a big part of my childhood and one of the few N64 games that I regularly go back and play. It holds up amazingly well, and you did a great job of capturing why. Well done!
Thanks so much, that's very kind!
I definitely love Star Fox 64, definitely a timeless masterpiece, I have my copy. You went into great detail, and very professional while going into depths of this retrospective
Thanks, that means a lot!
@@ivanavi123 you're welcome, looking forward to the next video on your thoughts and opinions on Command and Zero
star fox adventures was undderated and i honestly think starfox assault is better than 64
Love those bekumbokums.
This was my favorite game growing up.And I just learned that there is a underwater map.And also learn about different ways the levels can end. and a bunch of other stuff that I never knew. Probably, because I always played the same route every single time as a kid. Im totally mind blown!
Discovering all of the secrets this game had to offer are some of my best video game memories
I wanna stream banjo kazooie now
I always loved the cultural references in Starfox 64. For example the fleet battle outside Cornaria? Forgot spelling, is a parody of Mobile Suit Gundam, with the green mechs being zakus and even a fast one that is painted red that isn't even a named enemy. Then you have the Katina battle which is the film Independence Day. xD
It is definitely Star Fox's best, if not counting Star Fox 2.
