WAITING FOR GUFFMAN (1996): The mother of all mockumentaries
I just realized that there's something about this time we're living through that feels kind of like deja vu. Is it just because I'm old? I think even young people might feel some of it... like, I thought we had evolved past this, I thought we were going forward into the future. I mean, it's not literal, it's more a vibe, a vibe of deja vu that this film highlights when seen from where we are now.
Y’all ever see Fiend from 1980?
Oh yea, we big Don Dohler fans
This review goes to 11!!
old fuy is just an annoying snob. he keeps saying he'll shut up, but he never does!
And what other film said mangia! in regards to rampant consumerism? Dawn would make a great double bill with Salo 💩
Guys, your channel ist TH-cam gold. Kind regards from Germany.
Evidently a lot of people sided with the Joe character, and when Peter Boyle found it, it really disturbed him.
Blue is lynch's color for secrecy ("silencio"). Coffee is his frequent symbol for knowledge. The cowboy (who Betty sees twice) is an actual real-life producer. The old people are the pressures and expectations of family, etc. The whole film infers heavily about the casting couch pre-me too (black books, "club silence", the audition, "I know a shortcut", etc)
This should be a cautionary tale on how to be a simpleton
Love "Daughters." The male lead was Tyne Daly's husband on "Cagney and Lacey." Does "The Baby" (1973) count as horror?
The old guy is a pregentious, self important twit too. Wonder when a doc about him will come out
This MOVIE created the MANOSPHERE.... this is black pill knowledge distilled to the essence. Too bad Golan Globus did not make the sequel like they did for the Israeli Original, Lemon Popsicle.
Love that John G Advildsen directed this. This was so far removed from Rocky territory let alone the Karate Kid. When I first saw this, I was a little surprised that this one didn’t an X rating for the time, but it was just full of excesses in a good way:)
I hope you guys are well.
I love the idea of the “Hey Joe” song perpetually playing on loop inside of Joe’s head the entire film. Hilarious!
I mean, Sam was always going to take Vince's side, WWE pays him.
56:05 It's "Teenage Frankenstein" -- NOT "Feed My Frankenstein"
If you ever do an episode on Last House On The Left, PLEASE talk a little about the remake which was actually quite good and actually had Aaron Paul (!) as one of the rapists!
Assuming Jason didn't drown and he did live off of berries and rabbits, Jason would've been 33 years old during the original "Friday The 13th" movie...
16:00 WTF are you talking about!?! Adrian King didn't return because she was going through issues with a stalker! Do you not know this!?!
Robert Blake was very creepy in the film. A real life "Mystery Man" who''s real life wife was murdured in very systerious circumstances.
I dont know if you guys remember but a lot of kids used to see horror movies back in the days. Now they do so Without the parents knowing it but a couple of decades ago it was not a big deal. I get the theme would make it extra ackward but otherwise very normal back in the day.
TRIVIA : MAD Magazine did a parody of JOE !! And the cover featured Alfred E. Neuman in a hard hat w/ tattoos.
@@LannieLord We mentioned it at the end of show 👍
Unexpected shout out to Dobra Tea in Asheville from Marcus!
Another cracking show, I love film channels with films I've never heard of, great stuff!
Great show guys! I absolutely love this channel.
I was standing next to Peter Boyle at an intersection on the upper east side of NYC around 1978 or 79. I very politely told him how I loved him in "Joe" and "Young Frankenstein". That made him chuckle. :)
No film can ever beat "Aquirre" by Richard Lester, probably because no one's ever seen it! I tried to write a Top-Ten list, but it's impossible. Here are a few from my list of fifty (and I love them all, and I tried really hard to leave off the French ones): 10. The Wizard of Oz 9. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 8. The Mask of Dimitrios 7. Plein Soleil 6, Barbarella 5. Scarecrow 4. Diva 3. A Clockwork Orange/Dr. Strangelove/The Shining/Barry Lyndon 2. Nashville 1. A tie between Casablanca and North by Northwest Ask me tomorrow, and the list will have changed dramatically.
You think Jack Nicholson doesn't look like a movie star? What about Edward G. Robinson? Charles Laughton? These guys were huge! And don't forget Ernest Borgnine and Rod Steiger. Even Bogart was pretty strange looking. It was a whole different era. But that isn't why.
amen. natural born killers is sooo bad
Where is that intro from?
Ha! Only the dark web knows. You have to search and find it to be in the special people's club.
Joe is currently streaming for free on Tubi. You gotta put up with the commercials , but if you haven't seen it, here's your chance
I first saw this at the Drive-in as a double feature with Billy Jack in the early 70's. While us kids enjoyed Billy Jack more, our parents preferred Joe. Like watching All in the Family, ( Or Point/ Counterpoint on 60 Minutes), this pairing sparked a lot of discussion amongst our family. I still remember the Mad Magazine parody of All in the Family where Archie tells Meathead that he didn't like the ending of Joe because one of the hippies that Joe shot didn't look like he was quite dead. On another point, Peter Boyle was also a good friend of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their period of political activism.
@@tawnieriekena7 Wow what a double feature
Great movie and by the way you guys are the best movie review show on the 'tube. Easily.
38:49 The scene you are describing should be called “Ritz, Schlitz, and the Ditz”
New to the channel, great conversations! I'm glad to see real film geeks hate and talk as much shit as I do about these atrocious films lol
I don't know if this is corrected in the video at some point, but Bob Zmuda was Andy Kaufman's writing partner, not Charlie Kaufman's. As far as I know, the only writing partner Charlie Kaufman ever had was his brother Donald.
When are you going to cover Paul Scrader's Hardcore, which also features Peter Boyle.
''An all American average Joe''
Mulholland Drive The Royal Tannenbaums Thief The Terminator The Shining Interstellar They Live Repo Man The Brood The Big Lebowski
31:29 "Boyle'd down," lolol 😂
Joe Dirt Meet Joe Black Ode to Billy Joe G.I.Joe Mighty Joe Young Joe vs the Volcano Joe’s Apartment Joe: King of Dreams (animated)
Also, just 'Joe', with Nicolas Cage. One of David Gordon Green's good movies
Is this a joke for the newly-revealed what America is really like post-election world? Great movie but really ironic timing.
Seems like this film could have been made today and it would have been just as current.
I love the moment in the film when Joe says "It's Joeing time" and then he joes all over those hippies
It was so good, I hated M. Emmet Walsh forever after that. Liked Gary Busey, loved Hoffman. I've never talked to anyone else who has ever seen it.
I see that alert and my cock is at attention.
Killer Joe is one of the best movies I have seen in years. MM’s best role of his career. Friedkin is on top form. You have to do a show on it.
Killer Joe is great, but be careful, it'll make you hungry for KFC. Seriously, great film, and from the same playwright as Friedkin's Bug, Tracy Letts. Those two worked well together
