My B747 Landing in Anchorage AK
Thanks to the plane spotter channel (Airplanes, Trains and Cows) that caught My landing and the good Family Friend that sent me the link to it.

This is a tight spot, Guess about 150' bank to bank (could me more?), But it has 8' drop off on both ends. I landed it earlier in the year but did not have DJI drone. Landed it again late season but had light drizzle....

Beautiful time with Family, Made 7 passes to finally find a 200' place to land in 10' rocks but avoid the 20" rocks. 17' tide comes in pretty fast. Also a Huge calving event could cause a wave to wash over Island ??

smooth operator!
Thanks..
Touched down right at 1500 on the downsloping 15! Well executed Captain! Too bad this wasn't on Monday with the wind 25G50!
Thanks, ATIS said 140@14G22 but it was less than that on landing. Glad it wasn't 25G50 😜
Like buttah!
Smooth a silk my Friend, I can see how easy the wheels touch the runway Great Job Thank for the Video.
Thanks....
Wow cool beans
Thank you for the link 👍👍👍
Top video of bears
Thanks, They are very Majestic animals.
Damn. You really like nerve wrecking landings. That’s a difficult and dangerous one.
Thanks, I do like getting off the beaten path.
Stunning photography. You obviously know the area well, so many places to get in trouble there.
Thanks, First time I'd been to Billings Glacier. I keep expanding my Cool AK places to visit 👍
Nice spot
Icy Bay as a whole is Amazing. 👍
Beautiful scenery and airplane. I haven't seen a Super Cub with leading edge slats before! I wonder how they compare to a Sportsman's STOL kit in slow speed performance.
Thanks... The Sportsman STOL leading edges are a great addition to any off airport Airplane. The Back Country Slats are far more aggressive and NOT needed. Here is a robbed video of Wayne Mackey early SQ's with the same Back Country slats I have. th-cam.com/video/NltMFihRMZI/w-d-xo.html Stall at super high AoA. But at those high AoA you can't see where you are touching down. But still keep them on for safety sake (stall/spin).
Man, you hit the nose bleed section!!! One HELL of view!!!
Thanks Samso, It's high up there. Great views. Had a pretty good cross wind coming over the top edge of that mountain.
Awesome video footage! I lived in Alaska back in 2005-2007. Did quite a bit of flying up there. Best scenery by far of any place that I've flown. I wonder though, how does insurance work for gravel bar operations? Would they cover a mishap there or can you expect higher premiums with that type of flying? I do a lot of backcountry flying in Idaho. But I stick to forest service airstrips, nothing shorter than 1,200 feet to date...with tricycle gear airplanes though.
Agreed👍 Alaska has some of the best scenery if you have an airplane to get out in it.❤ Alaska off airport "Hull" Insurance is certainly spendy. Glad to hear you are enjoying the Idaho Back Country. You guys deal with Density Alt that we don't have up here. My highest has been 6500' Its an eye opener. ...Thanks for the kind words.
Прикольный канал
Thanks, I enjoy making these videos of Alaska's beauty..

CUB GOD!
This strip is fairly long, although Density Alt is at play. But I think C180/Maule etc would work out great on it.
@@AKCub907 I think you can get a 747 in there.
@@cubdweller 😂Haha, But you won't get it out again 🤣
@@AKCub907 So many cool places you take your cub. Hope to make it to Alaska in the next few years. Seems amazing and scary at the same time!
@@AKCub907 You can always live in it, much bigger than my house now!
Quite the landslide off the mountain at 0:58 Keep the 4K content up! Looks great on the big screen.
Thanks I never really got "The perfect" drone shot when I was there. I was too busy enjoying myself and the scenery.
I never sleep I just wait for the next flight😂
I think you are always up ?? Your sleep might be worse than my Circadian rhythm cycle. 😂
Awesome, thanks for posting these!
Thanks, I Love getting out seeing Alaska.
nifty little spot!
LOL! 150 ft and looked like you left 40 ft on the table!! Again, one hell of a view!!
Thanks Samso, It's short. But still within My and the Cub's limits.
150’ LZ. Impressive. Loved the 30/210 back over strip on departure!
Yes, Its the shortest place I've gone to with the steep down side of being short or long at all. Thanks, I almost deleted the back taxi and strip fly over (30/210 turn).
I love Alask's wild places! Thx
I hear you Brother 👍 I'm Super blessed to live here and to be able to visit such places.
Thank you for sharing these special places. Very few pilots have your site evaluation and spot landing skills.
Thank you Ted, you are too nice. The site evaluation does come with time. We all have more things/skills to learn.
Amazing video, thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks, I love exploring Alaska and seeing new places.
Now that is some epic scenery!!!!!!
Agreed, Was a Gem of a place to run across. 👍
Nice video. Love it.
Thanks Guido 😁
It is always very enjoying to go for a ride with ja3dean very good pick on the landing spot on a nice Claim day, I love Alaska we are all so lucky to be able to see this country from the Air. Thanks ja3dean.
Thanks N411X, Had a light tail wind on both landing and T.O. but liked the easy go around option down stream.
Amazing video. Get pictures of the glaciers before they are no more. Thanks
😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome flying! Livin the dream!
Thanks, Yes truly living the dream 👍
Beautiful videos!
Thanks Matt...👍
Nice spot! I pioneered a landing spot there about 10 years ago and hadn’t gone back until last year. I saw tire tracks showing someone had been using it!
I landed closer to the glacier, below the high tide line. Any tire tracks there will be gone within a day.
A Great Day indeed...................
You give new meaning to the notion of low flight
No room for errors on this one. But great landing skills. Stay safe.
I want a plane I want a plane I want a plane
Yes, I feel Blessed to have my Cub/Airplane.
That was a wild landing
The best!!
The Waterfalls get bigger later in the year.
No music, thx.
Thanks, I think the Lycoming is enough music 😜
Own a Piper Cub must be an amazing experience.
Yes, It sure opens access to this great State.
Well done, from Juneau, Alaska!
Thanks, You guys have some beautiful country down there in Juneau 👍
The best of your videos I have watched!!!! Hands down. So interesting, scenic, delightful, covering so many natural wonders. Yeah, one of those big rocks could ./ would flip your plane. The seals were uber cool. Maybe so many of them live there bc 1. the food is abundant for them in that micro ecological nook and 2. the predators can't get to them very easily. ?? I loved all the touches you added, personal pics, fun pics, pics giving scale of ice remnants, so many different glaciers in one compact area. Yeah - awesome video!!! Wow.
Thanks Greg, Super kind comments. This is one of my favorite also because of the good time I had with family. And having 3 glaciers so close and big chunks of ice all around. Think the Seals like resting on the ice as it hides them from predators?? Either way I have seen them resting on top of ice near other Glaciers also.
@@AKCub907 But are they always so dense in numbers, compacted in one area? That mystifies me. So many, so close, right there. I've seen them crowd onto a rock. They seem to be social creatures. Not hunted so much anymore, eh? Yes, I like the personal touches. Surprised it is so low watched. ???? Algorithm?
What an absolutely perfect day to land and stay the night, there are not that many days in the year that a cub would not be blown off this spot I have lived in Alaska for 53 years and my life has been Aviation its all I have ever done 23 year in Helicopters and Dean you make a airplane do almost what a Helicopter can do thank you for lets us Travel along with you. Please dont let anyone tell you it is bad
Thanks for the kind thoughts, I sure Love getting out exploring Alaska. Icy Bay is Amazing !!
Stunningly beautiful video, and what cool airmanship !
Thanks Chris, And yes Alaska has some stunning beauty for sure.
based upon your own personal experience, visual, sensual, etc. ONLY, have you witnessed "global warming" in Alaska?
Hey Greg, if you are asking if I think the Glaciers are retreating ? YES, in the 40+ years I have lived in Alaska the local Glaciers are definitely retreating. No question about it !! But think that has been the case for last 10 or 15 Thousand years ??? Any bigger question is for others to debate.
❤ thanks so much! That's all I was looking for. A local's perspective. My personal opinion is that it is cyclical and eventually will come to straights. And probably reverse for an age. This opinion is based on evidence from earlier times in my life, listening to both professionals and locals. One man I listened to recalled climbing on Mt. Ararat in Turkey as a boy with his father. His tribe of fellow locals had a history of visiting the glacier there and in 1905 there was a powerful regional long term multi-year drought in play. The glacier had receded enough to almost completely expose The Ark, Noah's Ark. The whole village knew plainly of its location having an oral tradition of passing the knowledge from generation to generation. The regional drought information stuck with me.
@@gregb3457 Super interesting story. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Love the 4K. That really makes everything pop! Nicely done Dean.
Thanks, I was debating if 4K was worth it. But this video is mostly scenery so tried it. 👍
@@AKCub907 4K Is definitely worth it, youtube forces a better encoder I believe it's called VP9 and it allows for more bitrate ( more data per second ) and less artifacts from compression. You can check that if you right click and click "stats for nerds". And from personal experience with a 4k monitor it's much much cleaner, I can't notice the individual blocking/pixels like I do with 1080p therefor it's more immersive on a big screen. Thanks for uploading great videos, I aspire one day to be able to do the same hobby.
@@shinyrayquaza5180 Thanks for the kind words and 4K input. I might try more in 4K then, especially the mostly just scenery videos like this one.
I love your videos. Just awesome.
Thank you, I Love getting out exploring Alaska 👍
Drones are wonderful things. Such a good. video thanks Bake
Thanks, this one is Prince William Sound, It's gorgeous over there.
very nice , I always wanted to stop on Kayak but nothing suitable for a Bonanza, Icy Bay is really cool
Thanks, I'm Sad I did not have/make time to land and kick around on Kayak Island. Icy Bay is Amazing,
very cool, how fast does a plane like that need for takeoff
Around 32 mph...
awesome! Great views!
Thanks, I'd never been up that valley before.
