The end of this just sounds like Colin Trevorrow's Ep 9 - using Kylo & Hux as the final villains instead of Palpatine. While I agree that resurrecting Palpatine was the wrong decision, I can also understand J.J. Abrams' desire to escalate. Personally, I'm not a fan of the death of Snoke. While it can be exciting for an underling villain to kill their superior and change the game, Snoke could have tied all nine movies together. If he had been behind the Emperor, instead of the other way around, Snoke could have been the true villain of the saga. That doesn't mean it would have to be identical to the original trilogy. Kylo and/or Hux could have still betrayed Snoke. You could have had three factions, or even four: the Kylo faction (that wants to reform everything from the ground up), the Hux faction (only interested in Imperial order), the Snoke faction (dark side fanatics), and the Republic (not the Resistance). That would be just as subversive while creating more storylines, themes, and cliffhangers for the final film to explore, instead of less. Also, Kylo killing Snoke wasn't that exciting for me. That kind of twist is only exciting when the underling is crueler than the boss and they're being kept on a leash. While Kylo is more emotionally unhinged and less collected than Snoke, he doesn't really seem any more evil. Everything Kylo does on Crait is basically what Snoke would have wanted - destroying the Resistance. Even when Kylo goes overboard with every weapon firing on Luke - Snoke made it pretty clear that he was terrified of Luke. He authorized the destruction of the Hosnian system to make it more difficult for the Resistance to find Luke. Snoke blew up five planets to stop a small group of people from finding one guy, so Kylo training every laser on Luke really doesn't seem that different from what Snoke would have done. In addition, Kylo was basically second in command anyway. He had pretty much free reign to terrorize as many villages as he pleased. In Game of Thrones, the death of Robert felt impactful because Joffrey was crueler than Robert. So his ascension was terrifying. But Kylo and Snoke had the same goals and Kylo was completely free under Snoke. I'm not saying Kylo and Hux as the final villains can't work, but I think Snoke was wasted potential, and if they'd kept him it wouldn't have felt so disjointed.

palpatine returns in the books , its not a disney thing , he's a clone , the only problem I have with the sequels is that they are not a trilogy that was written as a trilogy but rather tried to connect 3 movies together

Disney rushed the Sequels because they wanted to make their money back from the acquisition.

Excluding change #0, your changes make the movies better, but still subpar. Only change #0 could create a worthy sequel trilogy.

Adding to your idea of Kylo being incredibly strong with the force, but also lacking control, here’s how I’d swap out his computer destruction scene: While the Imperial officer informs Kylo about BB-8’s escape, the camera pans down to Kylo’s hand, which slowly clenches into an enraged fist. There’s a sound of metallic creaking and crunching, the Imperial officer watching in astounded fear as the console in front of Kylo begins to crumple in on itself. Then, as he asks if there is anything else to report, he pulls the officer towards him with the force, the surface tension of his boiling rage finally breaking. This helps establish a few things: 1.) It further establishes Kylo’s impressive potential with the Dark Side, being able to Force Crush a pretty sizable console by just clenching his fist. 2.) While not the first time showing Kylo’s power in the Dark Side, this _is_ the first showing of his lack of control of his own power, being that this happens while he’s simply trying to maintain his composure. 3.) It displays Kylo’s clear lack of control over his emotions, especially anger, while making him look like a near-maniacal threat instead of a child mid-tantrum.

my only quibble is that poe has ZERO connection to Rey - because all points of a trio have to connect. Han, Luke and Leia all had extensive scenes together in all three of the OT movies, same with Anakin, Obi-wan, and Padme in the PT. granted those connections were much looser in the PT - but even when say Obi-wan didn't really talk to Anakin that much (they have like TWO conversations in total and one is a simple introduction) in TPM, or Obi-wan said very little to Padme all that much in AOTC - they were still ON SCREEN TOGETHER at multiple points in those respective films. TFA and TLJ as they stand today, Poe doesn't even appear ON SCREEN with Rey - or if he does it's only for blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments. it's part of the rationale for the fetch quest in RoS - "oh shit poe and rey have zero relationship we need to correct that". but aside from that - out of the park!!!! a lot of "ST fixes" just rewrite it all from the ground up, but you do your damnest to make what they put on screen WORK and in the main, succeed

I like almost all your suggestions, and am especially grateful you didn't stoop to the whining like most sequel-haters resort to, especially many of the commenters here. Two suggestions I'd add. Finn's story should have been about FREEING all the child soldier stormtroopers. His three-movie arc should have been how he goes back in, infiltrates the stormtroopers, and begins recruiting or converting stormtroopers to the Rebels' cause. In the climactic battle, when all seems lost, all of a sudden half of the stormtroopers spin on their heels and are now fighting against the other half of the army. The other change would be to completely eliminate the Rey-Palpatine aspect, and just let her be a nobody. But the actual change would be that she does indeed let the Jedi die. But in its place is a new order, one that follows the ethos of one of its greatest members. So now, people in this order are called "Skywalkers." "I'm Rey. I'm a Skywalker."

Wow I had a few similar ideas but still a different view on the overall story changes, 1. The scale of the war should be a lot smaller in outer rim systems, while the new republic still exists 2. Finn begins to become like a Saw Guerrera 2.0 except he’s still force sensitive while Rey still believes in the ways of the jedi 3. Once Snoke dies in the second film a power struggle begins to happen between Phasma, Hux, and Kylo leading to the beginning of the end of the first order rule 4. Remnants form, both Phasma and Hux, take their respective forces out, leaving the knights of Ren and kylo significantly weakened 5. Third movie, Rey and Finn defeat Kylo together and while Rey advocates for Kylo’s capture, Finn goes ahead and just executes him. The rest of the film Finn and Rey continue to take back systems once controlled by the first order,as finn begins to embrace the darkside that once consumed the galaxy he begins to propose how they will rule these new systems in order to maintain peace and their differences lead to them fighting each other Turn that into a trilogy

I like it a lot better as a comedy! Though definitely not the story I was expecting… hahaha 😭

I would have liked for the reason Rey was so good with the Force to be explained that she was a Sith apprentice who'd had her memory wiped so she could get close to Luke and the Resistance. It could all be revealed to her in the final movie and then she has to choose between taking her place as a Sith and ruling the galaxy or to let go of her past self and stay with her friends. We have even had glimpses of this when she saw her reflection in the cave. There could also be clues about her history where she's trying to track down a mysterious dark figure only to find out that people she meets on the way are fearful of her but won't tell her why.

You can't fix dog shit. Just because it is Star Wars doesn't mean it can't be awful if they don't respect the audience.

To fix it, Have a new luke skywalker in a meditative state seeing flashes of what could happen (the current trilogy), if he left the rebellion. And instead stays with it and helps them and create a whole new one. Maybe add Kyle Katarn and his story.

I wanted Luke to regain his faith by teaching Rey, and the 2 go off find the other surviving Jedi that he told to hide. Meanwhile, Kylo has been giving the Knights of Ren red lightsabers. So for the final showdown; we get ~500 Jedi with blue, green etc lightsabers; vs ~500 Knights of Ren with red ones, all battling in a grand melee on the screen.

I think you can change the final TFA fight by moving when Han dies. Have Finn separate from Han and Chewie to go save Rey while they set up explosives. Finn and Rey reunite but its cut short by Kylo Ren's arrival, they fight and Finn gets sidelined while Rey struggles to survive. Kylo Ren gets the upperhand on Rey and is about deliver the killing blow when Han shouts out his name. Scene follows the same path as Han's death in the movie, as Han dies explosives go blocking the path between Kylo Ren and our heroes giving them a chance to escape.

For me this concept "Resistance vs First Order" killed the sequel trilogy. I remember when I was watching EP7 in the cinema, I just could not believe. It was a cheap soft-reboot. And it didn't made any sense, because in EP6 the Rebellion won. There wasn't even an explanation why everything started from zero, but it was so obvious that JJ and Co. had no idea or concept for a story to tell. EP8 and EP9 was doomed to failure because there was nothing they could build on.

Your ideas are very interesting and creative! This story fits perfectly within the Star Wars universe without just mindlessly re-treading the original movies. Each arc fits so well and so naturally with each character. You hit so much of the untapped potential in these movies. Also really loved your succinct, clear presentation and the editing. This is great stuff.

Bizarro is a good pick for the final boss of BvS. Another option I'm quite partial to is making the wheelchair guy Hank Henshaw and having Lex turn him into Cyborg Superman, but the effect is ultimately similar: A evil Superman-lookalike who is tangibly a threat to the three heroes and is intended to frame Clark. Hank would tie more into the Death of Superman stuff, while Bizarro being made by Lex messing around with his and Clark's DNA makes a neat lead-in to Kon/Superboy.

#11: Don't kill off the heroes of the original trilogy. The worst sin a sequel can commit, in my mind, is to give a violent end to the heroes of the original story, especially ones as beloved as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. It's cheap shock value, and it cheapens the original story to know that this is how our heroes, who fought hard for their happy ending, eventually end up. #12: Don't have Han Solo break up with Leia and go back to being a smuggler, thus undoing all of his growth and completely regressing him to be right back where he was at the beginning of the very first Star Wars movie. #13: Don't have Luke Skywalker, the man who believed that his father, who had commited or been party to countless atrocities and was responsible for trillions of deaths, still had good in him and could be redeemed, try to murder his nephew because he had a bad dream.

A villain faction that doesn't revolve around a story about cloning with the good guys being the outnumbered "Resistance" would be something more interesting.

It's unfixable.
