"the peak of horror popularity was arguably the late 70's, followed by a bit of a down turn the 80's with a bunch of cheap slasher films, that are cult classics now." It's universally seen as a fact that the 80's was horror's biggest and best decade. Now did the critics hate it? YES. 80's horror was constantly getting bashed by the critics and by parents....but they were selling big box offices and dominated the VHS market. Friday the 13th, etc all were box office hits. The public was LOVING this "filth". I know of several Gen X kids who were children, 10, 11, 12 years old in the late 80's who said "Horror was BIG in the 80's." That is one reason why the 90's is seen as a "lost decade" for horror movies. Because a lot of them were straight to video, and in comparison to the 80's the 90's sure as hell looks bad. Because the 80's was so good....till the late 80's when the MPAA and prudes started to mess with movies. Self censorship, etc. And I say this as a guy who LOVES me some 70's horror. In fact, it's my favorite decade. My second favorite decade in terms of horror. Favorite decade in terms of everything else. I love the 70's. DISCO AND PUNK, BABY!!!!! And the thing is....I'm far more comfortable with the bashing of horror movies and horror in general. As well as metal music. I mean, that's a given by now....but what I haven't accepted is the bashing of true crime. Probably because all the horror/metal stigma doesn't really have any effect...but in terms of true crime. It's definitely being censored. Even in academia. Criminologists are being made to censor. True crime books are being censored. And as you said "they push boundaries and force people to confront what they rather ignore." and as a progressive who actually wants stuff to change - all this true crime bashing and censorship infuriates me. And here is the thing....I love horror. I love true crime...but I also really like/love Dramas. I love musicals. I also love TV shows like Quantum leap [the original series], the facts of life, Family ties, etc. So when people say "Why watch horror when you can watch something nice”, it's the same nonsense I hear about true crime "Why can't you enjoy something positive?" and "What about the victims." MAYBE YOU, YES, YOU, SPECIFICALLY YOU can only chew gum or walk....but I can walk and chew gum at the same time. "oh, can you name a victim?" YES, in fact.....HOW MANY do you want me to name? Also....do YOU WANT TRIVIA about the victims too? Because I can sure as hell do that. "Why can't you just focus on NICE stuff" .....I ALREADY DO?! WHY CAN'T YOU ACTUALLY F**KING CHALLENGE YOUR SELF AND CONFRONT REAL LIFE SH*T?! I mean, I am obsessed with the satanic panic. It's one of my all time favorite subjects...and it INFURIATES me; boils my blood at times. I am very much a "Why am I feeling this way?" and looking inward in the mirror type of person. I know exactly why I love horror movies and true crime, and the satanic panic, etc. And the question "Maybe you have some unresolved trauma"....in my case, that is actually true. But I loved horror before that, although I'm a hospital kid. I've suffered trauma since I was born. But I love horror and true crime, and the satanic panic for a lot lot of reasons. I've actually been more "triggered" and felt far more of a "I'm reliving my trauma" from non horror films and what the hell do you mean "it's really WEIRD" that people might be using horror to confront their trauma?! YOU KNOW WHO ELSE DOES THAT? WAR VETERANS. Ya....war vets are notorious for turning their trauma into movies, books, tv shows, video games, etc. HOW IS THIS EVEN REMOTELY WEIRD?! DO YOU NOT WANT PEOPLE TO EXPRESS THEM SELVES?! "oh I draw art because I'm so full of trauma and hate and rage" and instead of taking it out on people "I draw art" there are many artists who are like that. People find ways to relief trauma, stress, etc through all kinds of things. Like gardening. A lot of people find gardening theraputic. I don't. My medicine is my exercise bike with some music, maybe a TV show, or a movie. And why do I love horror, especially slasher movies? Many reasons. Number 1...I'm a fairly anti social type of person. I suffer from social anxiety, etc...and films like Friday the 13th allow me to not only empathize with the victims, but I want to JOIN THEM. In almost every Friday the 13th film, I am like "Ya, man. I'd love to hang out with these people. I'd love to party with them." I also love the final girl trope. Because I love my underdogs. This is also why I've never ever liked Superman. If Superman is practically invincible, then what's the appeal? At least Batman can break his back, and in a world full of injustice....i love seeing someone FIGHTING BACK and "fighting the monster". Same with true crime and in terms of Jason Voorhees....the actors who play him, his character, his look through out the franchise. It all adds up to an awesome monster character. He's like King kong. And to be honest....when I hear people talk about gore in a movie, I as a horror fan can become kind of offended and I hate HATE "gore films"....what about the characters? What about the mood? Suspense? Thrills?! Sorry but I need MORE then just gore. Friday the 13th part 7 was heavily censored by the MPAA. There is almost zero gore in that movie....and yet, it's easily one of my favorites. Why? I like the characters. I love the look of Jason in the movie. I love the entire concept of "Carrie vs Jason" and it's used very effectively. I love the music. I love the mood. The fact that it has less gore, while it sticks out, I still love the movie...and I've been complaining about this for a long while now....a slasher movie that has no likeable characters, the characters are just cardboard cut outs MAKES ZERO SENSE TO ME. Same with ANY movie, really. The mortal Kombat movie that came out in 2021. First off...zero tournament for one. Terrible idea not to do that, and the biggest flaw. The characters are boring and uninteresting as hell. Oh, this character died.....WHO CARES?! Oh this character is doing X, Y, and Z....WHO CARES?! I rather watch the PG13 Mortal Kombat from 1995. "But this new one is R rated with a ton of gore and blood." And???? SO WHAT?! The PG13 movie actually has characters I can root for. Has a better plot/story. Has better landscapes. The only real complaint the original film ever had was "It's PG13. Where's the blood and gore?" Absolutely the blood and gore would of improved the 1995 movie. But the 2021 movie does in fact have the blood and gore, but it lacks everything else. Also the hypocricy....where I can say "I can relate to" or I can really get into and enjoy Thanos, Hans Gruber, Darth Vader, etc....but if I say "I can get into and enjoy Jason Voorhees or Freddy Kreuger or D-fens from Falling down." then it's seen as 'weird" and people "just don't get it". I've dressed up as Jason Voorhees for Hallowween several times now. I mean, the entire point of dressing up for Halloween is PRETEND your a monster to scare off the real monsters. And this "looking down on that" just speaks to people not wanting to admit that deep down we all have a lizard brain, or a morbid curiosity, etc. And the thing is....when ever I watch an action movie, a horror movie, a slasher movie. It's literally no different. I want my heroes and I want my villians and I can put my self in all of them. That is part of the fun. I can sympathize and put my self in the place of the victims of Friday the 13th. I can live vicariously through their lives. I can live vicariously through the final girl, and I can live vicariously through Jason. Same with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Same with John Mcclane and Hans Gruber, etc. Same with the detective and D-fens. One of my favorite film quotes is D-fens at the end of the movie going "...I'm the bad guy?" and the detective goes "Ya." YA, I KNOW I AM SYMP0THIZING WITH THE BAD GUY, JUST LIKE I AM SYMPATHIZING WITH THE DETECTIVE WHO IS CHASING HIM. Again, it's fun to be the bad guy. Just like it's fun to be the good guy. Why can't I be both?! Sometimes I am just like "Either this person is really stupid or they must not get art/story telling what so ever." And my issue with "just gore for gore sake" movies has nothing to do with morality or judgement or anything. To me it just comes down to "It's f**king BORING." And again, I love gore. That's it and a lot of people will say "but Friday the 13th, it's just gore" no it isn't. Those movies have a lot going for them. I don't just watch slasher/giallo movies for the gore. That's absurd. As a giallo fan that also annoys me. I love giallo movies, not just because of the colors and all of that. I love the story telling. I love the MOOD. I love the murder mystery/thriller/suspense. Which is why I am not just offended by the "oh you must love gore and blood" as a horror fan, but I also HATE the "you must love the colors and stuff" as a giallo/Italian horror fan. No, I love giallo/Italian horror movies for many reasons other then the color palettes and the overall style. This is also why I HATE modern giallo movies. Because every modern giallo thinks "oh, it's the STYLE/COLOR that makes a giallo movie" and they totally miss any and all of the material that makes a giallo movie a giallo movie; like for instance, the suspense/thriller/murder mystery?! it's truly infuriating as a long time giallo fan. Where I am screaming "These are MURDER MYSTERY THRILLERS." NOT "OOooooooooooooo, look at the beautiful colors" if you think that's what a giallo film is, then your missing the point!!! And I did not like Us. I found Us to be painfully mediocre. Half way through the movie I went "is this just gonna be a bland boring home invasion movie?" and it was, for the most part. Did not like it at all.

I hate the term Pseudo-intellectual; I hate the term “intellectual.” I think people who think they are “intellectuals” just call people they disagree with pseudo-intellectuals, because it’s easier to call them that, than deconstruct their opinion, or even better, just ignore them all together. You aren’t better than someone because you think you’re smarter than them. You aren’t better than someone because you believe your intelligence is higher than theirs. In fact, there are many different types of intelligence, and just because you may have “book smarts,” higher media literacy, and reading comprehension; doesn’t mean you have the same level of mechanical intelligence, or handiness, or athletic intelligence as that person. Sorry, that’s my mini-rant. People who try to use their “intelligence” as a prop to put yourself over people who share different beliefs than you do is what gets people turned off from politics, and more specifically liberal/left leaning leftist politics.

The benefits of vegan or even vegetarian diet are valid, but I can't really stick to these diets. If you feel the same and would still like to do something you may want to try what I did: roughly calculate whatever amount of you're budget you are spending on meat and animal products. Take about 2/3 of that and buy free range, cruelty free stuff instead. Use the remaining third to supplement your groceries, since you are obviously not going to get the same amount of food. This can be done on any budget, you will end up eating less meat which is healthy and you will also stop supporting factory farm which is ethical. I lost some weight doing this and learned a couple of new tasty recipes, but personal experience may differ.

Black licorice is awesome, actually. There's people like myself who don't enjoy most candy eg chocolate or the likes because it's way too sweet and sugary for our taste. We still like a candy snack once in a while. And there's basically only 100 % dark chocolate, black licorice and peanuts for us (peanuts henceforth count as candy because I want to have three things). But it's ok if you don't like it , have some gummy bear filled sour drops with chocolate coating , or whatever you people consider to be food.

Ah yes Hamas Piker, the Nepo-Millionaire-Leftist (albeit with massive brain-damage) and his genius takes.

I have a story that is a tad long but on point I think. So please 🙏 give me a couple minutes of your time. I promise it does not include any political parties or statements about any human beings stupid…okay. Let’s start. in the 90’s a show called Babylon 5 and they had an episode on it that featured a species called the Drazi. In this story they were the middle of deciding who would run their society. Each would take a color at random from a bag (equal numbers) red or blue. At first they tried to talk about things but that quickly devolved into less vocal affairs. And then they would fight it out using what ever they wanted to say until one side won. There was no actual listening as the talk was just a first level of engagement. Seems that the political system for these beings always boiled down (according to the story) into one color un-life ing the other - this winning would prove that color was right. The story ended with the humans trying to stop it as a stupid idea. They were only partly successful though they tend to I guess reproduce quickly so they kept on going. So when I see these clips I think immediately - Red Drazzi vs Blue Drazzi. And the more we don’t talk (and listen) about things and not see each other as valuable human beings this thinly thinly veiled allegory hits home with me. So let’s keep talking about things and more importantly let’s listen too! ((I may have gotten elements of the story wrong it has been 30 years but I hope the message is clear))

I think the worst part about all these political debates is that they aren’t even good entertainment anymore. They ran the well dry so now all that’s left is the same three talking points: Immigrants bad Trans people bad And socialism bad They have such basic beliefs that lack any nuance or understanding of anything that matters to what they are talking about it stops being this frustrating show and is just boring. They never have anything new to say or add.

This is my first video of yours and I immediately subscribed, this was awesome, I love your takes and this woman made me pause the video to rant out loud alone, in my bedroom, while dealing with the beginnings of a cold 🤣 Horror is one of the MOST dynamic and varied genres out there, because they have the room to borrow from other genres and it usually works pretty seamlessly. There are even titles that I know SHE would enjoy. Like the silliest and funniest and most just light and fun movie What We Do in the Shadows, or something thats hopeful and meaningful and BEAUTIFUL like You Won't Be Alone. I liken horror to things like black coffee or spicy food... the immediate discomfort you feel (for horror, it's fear; for coffee, it's bitterness; for spicy food its the pain in your mouth from the spice) drives a way a lot of people, but once you push past the discomfort and cross that threshold, you'll find that black coffee has lovely notes that are vastly different from one another, you'll appreciate the sweet or savory flavors underneath the spices of spicy food, and you'll be able to appreciate the deep, complex, and thought provoking messages within horror. Just like anything else, it's ok not to like something. It's ok not to understand why others do. It's not ok to bully people for the harmless things they enjoy, and play the victim when you get clowned on for it. Not that I'm good with people making fun of her appearance or calling her like racist or homophobic because she had a bad horror take, that's just as bad. Don't do that lol.

My parents have college friends who are close to this level of obsessed with disney. It's mostly just a few of them who do all the work and their family members along for the ride, so I wouldn't call it a gang. Even if we were threatened by a rival gang, fists would fly immediately and our side is determined enough to win.

I hope you are somehow plugged into these people because I've been saying this for years. But I'm extremely aware that no one is going to listen to the black guy with only 100 subs, so there's that. There is absolutely no point in debating the right wing unless you're running for office or something similar and just as important. I've hated these "debate/gotcha" things since the original chuds of debates - the actual "debate bros" - hit the scene sporting the same racism and misogyny as your typical right-winger. They are pointless, solve nothing and go no where. I'm not going to convince a klansmen that my life and humanity are worthy anymore then I'm going to convince Tucker Carlson that those demons were just family member coming by for a visit. I don't understand the catharsis of proving an open racist is racist. I think many on the left side, or who cosplay as being left, believe that because their numbers are big that means they are having some kind of effect on the world. OMG, now I know what people mean by "Chronically Online."
