Headed out to a state stocked stream today In NJ with my friend Pete. We have never fished this river before but I’m glad we did. While walking a ways downstream Pete noticed a small brook leading into the river so we decided to try it out! We found a hidden GEM loaded with beautiful Wild Brook trout! TightLines!

    I have to laugh about fisherman not giving up their spots. Seems foolish. There are so many spots to fish and if you know what you're doing most times you'll catch fish. I'm 70 years old. Been fishing since I was 10 years old. I have done every type of fishing fresh and salt water and have quite a collection over the years. From shores to bass boats to off shore fishing. My grandkids will be happy inheriting all my stuff. I always never minded letting people know about good spots. I grew up on Long Island and fished some great salt water and fresh water rivers and streams for beautiful trout, bass, pickerel etc. There's plenty of fish for everyone to enjoy. I lived briefly in West Milford, New Jersey from 1985 to 1992. Fished every river and lake. I lived there when they built the Monksville Dam around 1987. That place has now had plenty of time to grow its fish population especially through stocking. I Fished Greenwood Lake, the Clinton, Echo etc. To a secluded pond on top of bearfort mountain to the Flatbrook river. Everything from Fly, spinning you name it. I just laugh when people are so secretive. If you're a good fisherman you'll catch fish anywhere. I mean anywhere. On my honeymoon while enjoying the beautiful lake I caught fish with dental floss and a straight pin. Lol. Wife loved it. So I say don't be so secretive. Everyone loves to fish. The more the merrier for the sport. There's plenty of fish in the sea.😊

      In 2024 we have an astronomical number of people fishing in New Jersey. It’s more important than ever to protect your fishing spots. You especially don’t want to advertise your spots on TH-cam. The amount of anglers is increasing ever year fishing the same lakes, ponds, reservoirs and ponds.

    • @nicholasleonardo4788
      @nicholasleonardo4788 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Too late I already let them know. If you know how to read the habitat you'll catch fish anywhere, anytime. 🙂

    You know, I've been trying to find a stream in NJ with wild rainbows for years. I know of a few good ones for brookies, but nothing that's predominantly rainbows. Mind if I ask what county this was in? (I don't expect you to tell me the exact stream and I'm happy to do some bluelining experimentation to earn it)

    There is much history on these little creeks. It has gone the way of invisible. But sometimes you can feel the spirits walking with you. As for the fishing, it’s a wonderful personal experience especially since the streams are fish able 12 mos of the year. You will learn much fishing these little cricks. I have for at least 50 yrs. When you go there bring some plastic bags with you and remove some of the garbage. If I meet you on the water we will share our regard for the privilege He showed us this day.

    You are soooo right about holding them gently. Just sliding your hand under a trout keeps it more calm. It's when you actually grab it and apply pressure that they fight you.

    I see you use mentioned that you use barbless but it should be noted when targeting wild trout barbless is REQUIRED in nj. The barbs really can rip the lip up pretty good when being removed. These fish often times see a lot of targets. People need to make sure they’re primping barbs.
