I don’t know why you resonated w me so much but the ease in your voice calmed my nerves on an excessively rough day w my 4 younger ones. I’m over 40 w 4 kids 5 and under. My older boys are as overwhelmed as I am. I think I realized how intense life is now when I wrote 4, 5 and under…we had a gap due to complications and basically started over. My boys are hitting their teens. Gosh thanks for being so down to earth mama-needed your wisdom today-
I'm so glad the video was helpful to you! Four kids five and under is definitely tough, but you can do this!! Just take it one day at a time and when that is too much, one hour at a time, focusing on doing your job well.
🎉🎉🎉
Genuine question: what’s the difference between homeschool where the kids are taking online classes and online school? I am new to homeschool because my girls and 1 and 2 so I’m just planning my homeschool curriculum now, but I thought the point of homeschool was to teach your kids every subject. I’m going to homeschool because I know I can teach each subject better than any teacher they would have. (I was an elite tutor before having kids.) Why homeschool if you’re not going to be the one actually teaching your kids?
This is a great question! So, remember, I have been homeschooling for over 18 years now, and the "landscape" of homeschooling has changed dramatically since I started. When I began there were no online classes whatsoever, and there were very few co-ops. You could find a tutor if you searched really hard, but by and large, all of the work was done by Mom and sometimes Dad. Slowly, co-ops began to gain traction and it was easier to find them, which gave homeschool mothers a lot more options to teach the subjects they excelled at, and have other moms teach one or more other subjects. About ten years ago, online classes for the homeschool family began appearing, but there weren't a lot of options. Once C0vi!d happened, the online school scene exploded. My definition of homeschool is schooling at home, and really doesn't have much to do with WHO is doing the teaching. We still are considered homeschoolers by our state, and I still teach at least half of the subjects for my middle schoolers and elementary students, along with a few of their high school classes. We have nothing to do with the public school system, and we are not enrolled in any private schools (except for my 16 year old daughter who participates in the diploma program for Memoria Press)...which also makes us homeschoolers. But even when co-ops were becoming more popular, everyone I knew who went that route still considered themselves to be homeschoolers. Homeschooling does not and never really has meant that the parents teach 100% of the material. That's amazing that you are so well prepared to teach your children, they are amazingly blessed and I'm sure they will excel!
@ thank you so much for your reply! Excellent explanation!
Wow! Impressive! It’s great to see that someone other than Mom can be trusted to be thorough and do an amazing job. What great life skills to have.
Thank you! Yes, Teddy does an amazing job!
I just found this video and Teddy did a superb job! I know two little boys who were excited to give it a try like Teddy did! You’re probably about 3 years older now, and my boys asked what chores did he graduate to? I have one who will give the lawn a try next year.
Teddy now does all of our vehicle oil changes and maintenance, and has also graduated into remodeling projects. He is completely gutting and redo'ing our downstairs bathroom, using the skills he has picked up working as a contractor's apprentice. He's a real blessing to our home!
Teddy, what a great tutorial! You did a good job and included some great tips! Thanks!
Thank you for your kind words!
How would he clean the tub and shower? Norwick cloths are great for cleaning mirrors.
Teddy, your an impressive young man. Love how you have such good tips, and comments. More videos please. How about a kitchen ?
Teddy said he might be able to do some more videos in the future!
Great job!! I am going to send to my kids (one is in college) 😮
It's never too late! I hope they enjoy the video.
Miss you 😔
This is answering so many questions. Thank you! I am currently in CC with my 8 year old but i have been having this odd feeling and didnt know why. I stumbled upon memoria press while seeking something for my 2year old. And am now becoming very very intrigued by it. I feel so similar to you in the striving for excellence. I am going to call MP next week to talk to someone about what it would look like to switch over to their curriculum mod year.

I have ALWAYS not enjoyed the lack of dress code ar CC. I love uniforms. i have always thought CC would go up a notch if they would reauire a dress code ans a uniform.
I very much doubt that CC would ever go so far as to require uniforms, but a higher standard of dress is so needed there. We have a standard of dress in our homeschool...collared shirts for the boys, nicer top for the girls, and nice hole-free "real" pants (as in with a button and zipper waist band) for everyone.
16:03 “One of the, possibly, best benefits of having a large family is being able to do some serious self-assess, make improvements, and have do overs… Strive for excellence, not just getting by.” Paraphrased.
I think anchoring is key to developing and maintaining good habits at any age. It helps to ingrain them so that you do them unconsciously.
Yes, you're right! Anchoring helps so much in establishing a new habit.
Had #9 in July, same story as you basically but I lost half my blood volume, needed 3 transfusions and then had to get a uterine ablation to control bleeding, so now my uterus has retired as I can’t carry full term now. Happy you didn’t need any of that. I’m 40 and recovery from that plus the c section has been rough. Hope now into the fall you and her are doing great ❤❤
That sounds rough! I hope you and your baby are doing well now!
I’m late to this video but I was considering CC (while incorporating MP) but the company seems shady. They remove all liability from CC corporate and place it on an unsuspecting mom who they convince to become a director. Not to mention the whole using a tax exempt church when they’re a for profit business. We are at a hybrid school this year (doing Abeka and BJU Press) but I’m supplementing with MP Latin, English Grammer and Spelling. With plans to go full core MP next year. Nothing about CC seems above board, and the last people I would want to make mad would be the IRS.
Yes, I found out about the business practices after we left, and it just solidified my decision. Good luck next year going into the full core! It has been an amazing change for us. The first year was tough, there was a huge learning curve for both me and the children, but this is our third year, and I am so happy now that we made that leap!
The problem I have with challenge is it’s so expensive and the tutors are moms who are not even experts on the material, at least in a private school the teachers have a degree in their subject and also know how to act and talk and teach to children that age.
Agreed. Even if they spent more time teaching the tutors classroom management, it would be better, but there is not emphasis on knowledge or good behavior. Some tutors did well because they had a background in teaching or were parents with high standards of behavior... In regards to your other comment, what is learned in Foundations is rarely brought up again in Challenge. That is a very poor excuse.
@@AshleyMBuffa that’s good to know because I thought it was building the memorization for challenge? My daughter ain’t learning that much what she’s learning is from me teaching her with a curriculum and read aloud. Thanks!
The *idea* is that they will use what they memorized in Challenge...but in my experience that wasn't the case with any of my Challenge students, and I had five of them for multiple years. I wasn't just observing my own children, but others in the class as well, and it just wasn't happening. I'm sure there are some fantastic campuses out there that are doing this well, but from what I've seen and heard, there are more that are not reaching the mark.
I just watched your Large Family Homeschooling Morning Routine video and am wondering how you balance school (particularly highschool!) with a baby 🙏💕
The baby is now five months old and is in a good nap routine and when she is awake she's super happy. I can put her in her little baby seat, but usually, one of the children want to hold her while I teach! This would have been much harder when she was a newborn, but thankfully, her newborn months were over the summer, so we could just focus on her, which was so nice! In the past, when I was having a baby about every two years, we would homeschool year round so that we could still get it all done, even when end of pregnancy, or the newborn months would slow us down. My highschoolers are currently enrolled in four online classes each with excellent teachers, so I am not the one having to teach their material. I just need to be available to proofread papers, explain concepts they are having trouble in and help them with flashcards. The other subjects that aren't online are more self study.
@@AshleyMBuffa thank you so much for the insights!
I desperately needed this reminder! It's how my family best operates, but we're in a difficult season so there's been less consistent time available to get all the things done and as I start prepping for highschool, shame and guilt about the lack of time started creeping in. Thank you so much for sharing 💖
While this video is 2yrs old I resonate with this a lot. Beginning to breathing free of guilt shame and perfection already.
I love how your perspective is shaped by the range of years and kid ages! Starting Day 1 of my Memoria Press adventure tomorrow with my 3rd grader and both excited and terrified about it, but now I have the floor established (5min a day!) as well as standards of excellence! Cheers to you and God bless to me and all the rest of us moms!
Very similar to us. We've also been homeschooling for 15+ years and have 1 graduate
"It takes two seconds." I tell myself and my children this very thing all the time. And it often really IS just two seconds, thirty seconds, five minutes. It gives us the oomph we need to just do it and get it over with so we don't have to do it later. What a fantastic idea about having a room or spot that stays nice! Ideally, the whole house would be that way but that's not realistic for most people. Microwave- We don't use one anymore (we have our reasons) but when we did, the easiest way to clean it took next to no time. I'd warm up a cup of water with a quarter cup of lemon juice, which would steam it up in there, then simply use that lemon water and a rag to literally just WIPE all the gunk. I did this once a month, even if it didn't look like it needed it. And any BIG splatters got cleaned up that same day, sometimes immediately. Best part about this method is no harsh or unhealthy chemicals, especially in a place where you prepare food. Better for you, your wallet, and the planet. It's a win-win-win! Amen to the "stop waiting." Yes, sometimes circumstances inhibit the ability to have nicer things, but do what you can. If it means settling in the meantime, then settle. On your deathbed, I guarantee you won't lament not having a nice matching set of real hardwood furniture or the organization you always wanted or whatever else it is that ultimately, does not matter. Make things as nice as you can for yourself and your family, but be happy with what you have and can do. "Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without." Children need to learn how to clean, cook, do laundry, budget, all sorts of basic life skills, so I could not agree more with that "bonus tip." It is our job as parents to raise them well, which includes teaching them these things so they don't have to learn on their own as adults. Your chore system sounds interesting. I'll have to take a gander at it. Ok, I'm done blathering now.
Counters. Yes. Goodness yes! We moved here in fall but since we'd had to start over (again) and the house was unfinished, we didn't really have anywhere to put anything. We still don't. Who would have thought it'd be so difficult to find good secondhand shelves, dressers, credenzas, etc?! Some of our stuff is put away but a lot of it is still in boxes. Boxes EVERYWHERE. And since there's nowhere to put anything, any flat surface is covered in stuff. It doesn't have a home. Papers, loose change, keys, books, toys, just...STUFF. The penninsula in the kitchen is one of the worst spots and it's driving me nuts. It is my goal to get this house looking like a house and not a storage unit (even if the walls and floors are still barren, at least get things out of boxes and put away) by the time we reach our two year anniversary of moving in. One year is unrealistic, financially speaking, as that's only a few months away, so two years is the goal.
Dana K White also says to "do the dishes." Love her!
I'm so guilty of the dishes thing. It was less time, less water, less wrinkly dry hands afterwards to just do them ALL AT ONCE at the end of the day. (I don't use dishwashers, as God already gave me two [hands] lol plus they actually get clean this way and they get done faster (wash, dry, and put away before a dishwasher is a fraction done!)...dishwashers reuse wash water as rinse water, same goes for modern washing machines...yuck!! But I am not judging. Do what works for you and your family 😊 ) As the years went by, however, I found it's so much better to simply do them as we go. They get rinsed and put in or next to the sink. Once there is a load's worth, they get done. No more mountain! Most days, anyway *glances at counter* It's been a rough week so dishes took a backseat and boy am I feeling it!
I'm so happy to hear one of your sons is going into nursing. We need more male nurses! They're stronger for patient lifts and turns and, in my experience, FAR more kind and compassionate than their female coworkers. (Men aren't in it for the cute scrubs!) How very blessed you are to have such a large family 😊 PS- I can't get over how *beautifully* decorated your home is.
Yes, I'm very excited that this particular son is going into nursing. He is one of my kids who always runs towards a medical emergency and is very compassionate, not to mention he's super strong. Thank you for the compliment on my decorating. Creating a beautiful home is one of my favorite things to do!
I'm going into my 3rd year of CC. Last year, I was definitely considering moving on because i didn't like how unorganized the director was and how i couldn't get actual answers for the best way to approach the curriculum. I was so confused. This year, we will have a new director, so i will see how it goes. I will have to listen to what the spirit is telling us to do. I like the community aspect of it, but when you feel lost trying to teach your children, it's just not worth it.
Hi from India. Thank you for the content. It is hard for me to describe how much helpful it is to get a peek into the daily routines of a happy home. Show the way, USA !
Fantastic. Great clarity. Some of the tips is generally applicable to any family.
I just loved hearing your story, your honesty, and hearing how you allowed the Lord to guide you. I don't usually comment on videos but I found this to be so helpful! We entered CC, honestly, out of not knowing how to tackle middle and high school. You are correct, every community is different, which can be tough when you're seeking consistency, excellence, and a solid Biblical worldview. Every year, we surrender the next academic year to the Lord. We may have some comparing/contrasting to do for 2025-2026. I appreciate your encouragement. Thank you so much!
Thank you for that encouragement! Homeschooling well is not easy, and the middle and high school years are definitely daunting. Re-assessing each year is so important, if we can be diligent in those assessments our children benefit greatly! Wishing you the best in your next year of homeschooling!
Is MP appropiate for someone like me with no background on HS, no one in my family has done it, no idea how to HS and no family support?? Could it be too heavy for someone new in HS? how many hours a day does it take for 1s grade?
That's a great question. I think it would be a good choice for a new homeschooler because everything is laid out for you, lesson plans, schedules, etc. It doesn't require you to have any experience. Honestly, I wish that I had started with Memoria Press when I was first starting out, I would have avoided so many things that impacted our homeschool negatively. I would recommend that you listen to the podcasts (you can also watch the here on TH-cam), they are so helpful and encouraging. Also, there is a Memoria Press homeschool Facebook group that is fantastic and so helpful. Additionally, if you call Memoria Press, they are SO helpful anytime you get stuck.
@@AshleyMBuffa Thank you so much for taking the time to reply ❤️
Hey it's me jahnaya I'm a new subscriber 0:45
You remind me so much of Andrea Mills. She was such sweet lady. 👍🥰
Are you using MP science and teaching multiple kids of close ages? I like most of MP offerings but I would like to teach science and history together since my kids are close in age. Thank you for the video! I totally agree about checking thier work! Lots of good tips.
Yes, both last year and this year I did science with all of my elementary aged students together and it worked great! My four year old participated this year as well, just listening and memorizing. My 7th grader wanted to do Trees this year which is what is recommended for his grade, so he did that independently while the other children did Insects. We also do Christian Studies all together at the breakfast table, and that works really nicely as well!

I had my 2 nd child at 42 🤣🤣
Thank you so much, Ashley! The advice you shared was a breath of fresh air. I found myself feeling so defeated for not being able to get an early start consistently. I believed being successful at homeschooling meant I must be up by 4 a.m. which is difficult since I'm in bed after midnight most nights. I would love to hear about your experience and advice on co-op.
If you watch some of my more recent videos, specifically the one about us leaving CC I share my thoughts on co-ops there, and I have several other newer homeschool videos as well! :)
Congratulations , love her name🌸🌺🌸🌺
Thank you! The name suits her so well!

Congratulations!
So how do you home school work and take care of a baby.
I'm only working 1-2 hours per day right now, and I squeeze that in during the hour that my husband takes care of lunch for the children, and in the evening. Homeschooling will start up again in earnest at the end of August, and thankfully I have a lot of experience making that work with a baby. :)
Yeah Goats Milk! We use Mt. Capra. They had a recipe and we made our own formula! I never knew that was a thing!!!! She is now 14 months. Has never had antibiotics. We noticed a HUGE difference in digestive issues! The formulas available in the US are Criminal!
Yes, I'm so thankful to have found this formula, she's thriving with it paired with breastmilk.
Wish I'd known about this kind of stuff years ago. I was physically unable to feed my babies, despite all my hard work and trial and error (including supplements and medications!). I just *could not* do it. Then I got c••cer, so if we are ever blessed with more, I can't even try again because they're gone. My failures and ignorance is why I tell as many people as possible about the better alternatives out there.
This showed up on my feed and I had to watch! On baby 5 here and lord has it been very hard. A very high risk pregnancy so unfortunately will be my last. Seeing you have 11 healthy babies, you are so blessed. Beautiful baby and mama.
Big hugs to you, I wouldn't consider this last pregnancy high risk but the few small issues I did have were nerve wracking, so I can't imagine how hard it must be for you, I just said a prayer for you.
How old are your children?
From 21 down to 10 weeks.
