Good tip about removing the flowers from the potatoes,I got that tip from Tony O’Neil @ simplify gardening a few years back,it really does help to get bigger tubers, and of coarse keep them well watered too,I think I will be planting garlic in my greenhouse next year as rust is a problem outside in the ground, great video as always, looking forward to Thursday 👍

Barry, I had always thought that blossom end rot is due to a lack of calcium, not iron ? Great video. I try to remember to sow my salad leaves once every month, to keep things ticking over. I have just sown radish. spring onions, american land cress and lettuce. The beauty of rowing our owbn veg is that we can harvest them in a state we love to eat them. I always pick my broad beans small as I prfer them small and sweet and not the larger white beans as they are when left to grow big. Same as turnips and beetroot. Love the small baby ones. Picked my first crop of mage tout today- not many reached the kitchen- oops! I have spring cabbage coming out of my ears and only just finished picking my last harvest of purple sprouting. My garlic is getting rust so won't be long till I harvest that. I freeze mine rather than storing dried, that way the cloves stay plump and tasty. I have raspberry suckers growing in my flower border, which is a fair way from the raspberries! Really annoying. A great year for blackberries, the canes are smothered in blossom.I love them. This week I have planted out my celery and celeriac. My runner beans are half way up their canes and I have peppers and melons growing in the greenhouse- 5 baby cucumbers and 3 melons. Picking strawberries daily. Another sowing of carrots made and still only a few germinated. Don't know if it's the seed or me. I am so disappointed. I will buy some new seed, although what I've sown was new seed this season. Last try! Thank you for a great vdeo. Enjoy your bbq. Happy gardening to you both 🙂

Your garden looks great! Hope you enjoyed your vacation. I'm picking strawberries but have a nasty infestation of pill bugs this year and they love to eat strawberries. I just treated with some pest bait so hopefully that will help. I have to net my blueberries now as they are beginning to turn.

I harvested the first of my early spuds today Pentland Javelin they look good, were in a jute bags. I put carrot seed in the same compost. Loads of weeding to do and something has eaten my peas. We had a few mange tout and Broad beans but they are a little while away from their tastiest. I harvested lettuces, spring onion radish and chard this week Have you ever sown / planted sweet potatoes? I’m thinking of putting some slips in a raised bed!

Another brilliant, informative video. But I could do with some advice on thinning my onions. On your suggestion, I've tried to thin my multi sown to 4ish bulbs, but I find that they are breaking off & leaving the roots in the ground. Will this cause a problem, and have you a method of removing them cleanly? Many thanks.

Home from my holiday and I’ve bought the same boxes but only 50g worms available so I got them. I drilled for ventilation and used a damp j cloth instead of the hessian sacking and some corrugated cardboard instead of the egg box. ( all onion and citrus is going in my beast) I fed them with carrot tops and other kitchen waste. it’s in my garage which is under the town house I live in and when I opened it yesterday a few wrigglers had moved from the compost onto the cardboard so they seem to be happy enough Thanks Mrs W for the project

That's great to hear that your Brussels sprouts are growing well! Just make sure not to remove too many leaves as the plant needs them to photosynthesize. Next season try to plan to give them the room they need to grow - And yes, Brussels sprout leaves are edible!

Loved watching this I think I have missed a couple something I never have before. But my daughter she is only 39 has had a stroke and is paralysed down one side so I am at her house looking after my grandaughter and the pets. My daughter lives in Peterborough and I live in kettering so I can’t just nip to plot for an hour or so and so it’s not going to be that great this year. My hubby is carrying on as best he can but he works comes over here and others stuff so it’s hard. I grew lots of flowers for plot so I have brought the seedlings here to plant up here. We have a few things in the ground but I can’t weed or care for them very well I just hope they don’t get munched most of our peas did😫anyway I will keep watching you and that will encourage me as I going to be here for some months. 🙋🏻‍♀️

My garden is fully planted now and the over-wintered pepper is a jalapeno now that I have peppers on it and can tell what it is. CORN - You CAN grow 2 verities of corn together as long as they have 2 different maturity dates. Example. You can grow 60 day corn with 90 day corn planted at the same time. Another way of doing it is plant 30 days apart from each other the following: Example. 90 Day Silver Queen planted June 1 with Golden 90 day planted August 1.-Ray Delbury Sussex County NJ USA-- By the way. Your concern for cross pollination is ONLY a concern if you want to save kernels for seed.

Garlic for the garlic butter prawns, new potatoes asparagus and purple sprouting, and like you, a few strawberries for dessert- nothing like the excitement of eating meals from your garden. My Emie melons have lots of flowers and are looking good. " sweet pepper plants have set some fruit. No flowers on the cucumbers or aubergines and sadly still not many carrots :-(. Broad beans are setting and first flower on my sugar pod snap peas. The garden is bursting with lettuce, lol- I think I wanted to try too many varieties and my initial promise of growing jut 3 varieties of tomato somewhat expanded to 8, ha ha.I am also growing Sugar Baby. I love the leaves on the watermelon, sugar baby, - so pretty. I grew my calendula and runner beans from home saved seed, also my sweet peas. We haven't had any rain in 2 weeks now, already a lot of watering. 39 in my greenhouse today. yes indeed the nights are staying warm now- it is really bringing on the plants. I am sure yje tomatoes have doubled in size this week.Last year I grew my courgettes with my sweetcorn- it worked beautifully! Happy gardening to both of you 🙂

Have a look on YT for talks with Troy Hinke, he's the vermicompost tea guy from Rodale, he composts everything before using it to feed the worms, 2/3 browns to 1/3 greens (for fungal dominant vermicompost to use in his commercial compost tea business) he feeds it to the worms in his basement after the thermophillic stage has cooled down, it takes all the guesswork out of managing the worm bins and you can compost anything without upsetting the worms, citrus peel/onions etc. I never had any luck with a commercial 'can-o-worms' system, it was either too hot or too cold wherever I put it, I think the system is just too small tbh, I use a darlek compost bin now which works much better, although there's no juice to collect. I don't use the vermicomost in my seed mix tho, I've tried it but it's just too rich, what did work was using cocoa coir as the seed medium with only 1/4" vermicompost on top. I tried different compost mixes this yr as I had some Johnson-Su compost finished, my best mix was 1/4 JS compost, 1/4 regular home made thermophillic, 1/2 cocoa coir, although all my mixes worked in that they grew fine seedlings, the mixes without coir (even some with sand mixed in) crusted over very easily to the point the crust kind shrunk while the bottom of the modules were still pretty wet. I woulda used leaf mold instead of coir if I had any, that's been marvelous in the past, but wet autumn/winter made leaf collection impossible last 2 yrs. Good luck with the wrigglers!

You really don’t want any liquid in the bottom as that means the worms are too wet. That’s letchade (can’t spell) and it’s anaerobic which is bad. I’ve been doing it over a year and a half and love it. But suggest watching and learning from a few guys on TH-cam, happy to share if you like ? But don’t wanna step on your toes. But as new bees it can go wrong with over feeding. So do not over feed less is getter then more.

@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 and any new worm farmers need to know that you need to start small and then when you check if there’s food left don’t feed till it’s gone. As you said the amount they eat, that’s not fresh food you put in, that’s the total intake in a day- including bedding, ie compost, cardboard, coir, precomposted materials…. And food that has Brocken down enough too feed, as the don’t have teeth but a gizzard, they need grit ie, crushed egg she’s is the easiest for us in the uk, but needs to be fine. Basically the smaller the particles the quicker it will go, people find blending food helps but you need to add more carbon to off set the liquid. None of my worm farm trays have holes as I manage the moisture. But I do have a tower I brought and that now has no liquid either, it’s harder as the lid makes it higher humidity and so condensation starts and you get the cycle. If you want more ifno please ask as happy to help so you don’t make mistakes
