Barry, I feel your pain....everytime I see my potatoes in the greenhouse, I want to harvest them but we have to wait!! We will be rewarded in the end!
Clare
Thanks for the encouragement, Clare! It's nice to know others are feeling the wait too!
Despite all the cold wet weather had my first cabbage whites in the garden today, unbelievable.
Who would've thought those cabbage whites would show up in this weather? Nature is full of surprises! Where abouts are you. I'll work out how far away they are from me!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 I'm in County Meath a fair bit north of you and east of Cumbria so they'll have to get the ferry😂
Thanks for letting me know about your location! It's always great to connect with viewers from different places. I do like Cumbria! Send them out West for me please!
Firstly, Mrs W, you are not alone, ive been asking my tomato plants nicely to hang in there, gotta give them a lil peptalk havent we!? Secondly, Mr W, im sure looking at the weather this week, your jumper will be back in the drawer for a bit at least! But this is the UK, so who knows how long haha I have my first polytunnel this year, so loving all the tips thank you! best wishes and have a wonderful week in the sunshine
Your positive attitude is contagious! Keep talking to those tomato plants and they'll thrive Mr W tells me! Yes the weather is looking better for this coming week and a good job too we have some major jobs to do. Having a poly is great isn't it!
I’m optimistic Barry, ditch the jumper now! Temperatures overnight for us are going to be 9C+ overnight from tomorrow so the cucumbers, tomatoes and chillis are going to stay out (hoping for an extra 1C). Mrs V wants her utility room back…
Hi Dave, great to hear from you! Good job the temps are rising - we do need to keep Mrs V happy! Thanks for watching, have a great gardening week!
Hi Barrie and Mrs w we have had sharp frosts it’s been so cold. But, we have had 2 warm days about18° our spuds are fleeced. Stanley my other half is planted main crop spuds today. This is our 3rd lot. Peas are growing up with string supported on a wooden structure just like the one Charles has and we have done that 4 years now. It’s very windy still today even tho warmer. Everything is just coming along lovely it will go mad I think over next week or two. See you soon🙋🏻♀️
Hello Mandy, It has a t last warmed up here! But like you the wind is still keen. Glad to here all is coming along well - it will indeed go mad during May!
Hello Mr & Mrs W, yes this weather is miserable. I have much to do, potting on the toms & chilis, albeit the latter are pretty dismal in growth. Flowers & celeriac to prick out. Brassicas & cucurbits to sow. Think I’ll leave the beans for another week or sow. When I finished work 1day around 2am, I had a little frost on the car so I’m trying not to rush it 🌱🌸
Hi Vanessa, you do have much to do! It has been awful weather for us. No need to rush though as you say - I would leave the beans a while if I were you. You actually see the frost, I just see the affects the following morning!
hi guys everything is looking great and so much info for us to learn thank you both
Your support means the world to us! We appreciate you tuning in and learning with us!
I was in my greenhouse earlier the rain stopped and the sun came out. What I noticed then was that the wind direction had changed definitely not from the north anymore more westerly. I am in North Herts hope this is a sign for better weather ahead.
Thank you for sharing your observation! Fingers crossed for more sunshine ahead!
Sorry Barry ,that jumpers still much needed. So cold here in the midlands 😊
Hi Susie, quite good to know we are not the only cold place in the UK - yes the jumper still needed 🤣🤣
We spent a solid 6 hours out in the sunshine today sorting out our second pea arch. Ourforecast looks very promising from the middle of next week for South Wales. Here's hoping it is correct. Ditch the jumper and invest in a new one. Your reputation as a fashion icon is suffering with the old one.😁
It sounds like you had a productive day Ken! Great to hear about the good weather forecast. As for fashion icon, that was 40 years ago 🤣🤣🤣
Barry, dump the jumper now, and put on a canary shirt! In prep for the playoffs I’m sure yellow is your colour! I enjoyed my visit to Carrow Road and taking a share of the points on Saturday. I thought that 2-2 was a fair result. We had frost in Sheffield Friday / Saturday and a lot of rain on Saturday. I found the holes in my old poly tunnel cover and had puddles on the ground so I need to seal those.. My p s broccoli is still covered with fleece but producing probably the last harvest had today. . I’ve put dry leaves and coffee grounds around my early potatoes. Harvested more rhubarb which has gone in the freezer and this week I’m putting strawberries into guttering suspended in my poly. Peas are going out out this week and putting French and runners to start in greenhouse. There’s always something to do. Glad I waited before putting my tomatoes in the poly I think they would have died in the frost. I have some cucumbers ready to go out too. Another busy week ahead. Best wishes for your advice as always - Pete
Hi Pete, glad you enjoyed the trip to Norwich! It was a fair result as I said you never quite know what you are going to get from Norwich. From what the comments say looks like I shall be dumping the jumper. Weeks are always busy - hold back on the cucumbers and toms until mid May!
I believe we turned the corner over here. We are 80 today and mid 80's Fahrenheit and maybe again Tuesday before we cool down a few degrees. But I believe last week may have been the last frost for us fingers crossed. I'm starting to put in the warm weather crops in now so all systems go! Hope you warm up over there soon also.
Awesome news Frank! Enjoy the sunshine and happy planting! I think things are looking better for us over the next few days!
Ohhh , i love your Strawberry Planters
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them!
Ditch the jumper, the sun is coming, ☀️😂. Ive been brave this year or (stupid). My tomatoes went into a cold greenhouse 5 weeks a fo and there still there growing nicely.
Maybe the sun will come, I prefer to say lucky you - glad for you that they are growing nicely!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 thanks, I went a little earlier ran out of room in the house lol
Very often the case!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 it is, normally by now the weather nice lol
Yes, the weather can be so unpredictable sometimes!
Never mind a jumper- I'm still wearing my fleece, lol! Planted out Kohl rabi, turnips and more salad crops this afternoon. I still have so much to plant out. It was 12 here today but the night time temps are\ still rather low. Not reaching 10 overnight in the greenhouse but very warm in there in the day time. Lowest temperature this week was 5 and the highest, Last night, was 9. We are getting there slowly. I have my peppers, aubergines, cucumber, melons and tomatoes in pots in the greenhouse. They seem to be doing well. When planting out my turnips I found a volunteer tomato in a cell. I have been putting tshe tray out in he day time for the past 4 weeks so was surprised to see it was thriving. Admittedly the tray Ws taken in overnight, but it has still done well. I am looking forward to finding out what tomato it is.I am no dig, as you know. My fist year on the allotment and today I was taking out odd bits of bindweed making their way through the cardboard, layed last September, when I first took on the overgrown, weedy plot. ( At least there were no brambles! I should take out my kale and sprouting broccoli, but they are still producing small shoots and I love them, so reluctant to do so. I have a feeling I am going to have too many tomatoes. I have grown rather a lot of varieties- can't help myself, lol! Also have to fit in the peppers, aubergines, cucumber and melons.I have worked out that I am zone 8A, which is surprising as I seem to be warmer than you, and you are 9. Does it depend on the last frost date for which zone an area is in? Thanks. Happy gardening Barry & Mrs W 🙂
Sounds like you're making great progress in your garden! Yes the zones are about first and last frost dates but also average temps. This is not a typical year. Here in the east we are much drier and warmer, but this year it is the west that has the better weather. It is about moments in time and this year we have been colder but he zones give us an average - this is not an average year!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 Agreed, lol!
Great minds think alike, right? 😄
Hi are you planning on growing any tomatoes or cucumbers outside this year with you having the poly tunnel?
That's a great question Laura! I'm definitely planning to grow some tomatoes and cucumbers outside this year as well as inside the polytunnel!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 Hi Barry. This is a hot topic that is not addressed well in many YT videos. 1. Can you grow Tomatoes and cucumbers outside? 2. How? 3. which varieties?
Thanks for your comment! I'll definitely cover this topic in an upcoming video!
I’ve got some l OutDoor girl seeds ready to go!
Thank you for sharing!
Will your tomatoes stay in the Polly tunnel, don’t you grow tomatoes outside?
I wonder how plants get enough sun when they’re enclosed. I have no experience with Polly tunnels.
Thank you for your interest! I appreciate your curiosity about Polytunnels and I'll make sure to provide more information in my upcoming videos. The warmth that a poly or greenhouse provides means a great crop, but we also grow them outside, some years good and others not so good! Stay tuned to see how they do in the poly!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 Thank you for responding, I was curious because most vegetables need full sunshine and pollytunnel isn’t even glass so I would expect limited direct sunlight. As long as it works right and it seems to work for you 😀
The material covering the poly lets sunlight through and in this particular cover it defuses the light too for an even spread!
