A 2025 Message to the Music Creator
In the rapidly evolving landscape of 2024, staying music-focused is crucial for creatives striving to carve a meaningful and lasting impact. With the explosion of content across platforms and the growing integration of AI tools in the creative process, maintaining a clear emphasis on the music itself ensures authenticity and distinguishes you from the noise.
Music remains a universal language, connecting people across cultures and experiences. By focusing on the essence of your craft-whether it's songwriting, producing, performing, or curating-you can create work that resonates deeply and emotionally with your audience, building genuine relationships rather than fleeting trends.
Moreover, staying music-centered helps you navigate industry changes with clarity. In a world where algorithms and metrics dominate attention, emphasizing the quality and uniqueness of your sound keeps your artistry at the forefront. It allows you to innovate organically, rather than chasing viral moments or succumbing to external pressures that dilute your creative vision.
Being music-focused also fosters personal growth and fulfillment. It prioritizes honing your skills, exploring new genres, and collaborating authentically, which leads to a richer creative journey. As technology amplifies accessibility to tools and platforms, your commitment to music as a craft becomes the foundation of your identity and longevity as a creator.
In 2025, let your music be your guiding star. It’s the key to meaningful connections, sustained growth, and true creative impact in an ever-evolving world.

I recently picked up a vintage Roland XV-3080 synth module. I used to own one back in the early days of my production career and now that I'm essentially back where I begin with hardware, I thought it would be nice to get another....so I did! and it has a tremendous Range Of Sounds, Versatility and Quality too. Yes sir!!!
thanks for watching.
Got the XV-3080 right here in front of me I got for cheap. I added the SRX-07 Ultimate keys card. Note that the Juno DS series keyboard has the ability to get all of the SRX cards loaded into it for free downloaded from the Roland Axial site.
This video is right on time. I run a hybrid studio mostly all analog. I even have real tape machines I use from time to time ( I am old school). when I first built this studio many years ago the brought the MPC 4K. And it's still a main stay in my studio until this day. Having the 8 outs going into my analog mixer is where it's at for me. I have looked at the X, MPC One + and the MPC keys, but I will never get rid of my 4K its just a beast. I use it mostly for arranging & sequencing and it does the job 100% that I need it to. I will add another MPC to my studio I really would like to experience 3.0 so I am debating on which MPC to get, maybe the X since the original can be found for a good price on Reverb. And you're 100% correct on having the flip screen is a plus. I am interested in 3.0 because of the workflow and I find the Stem feature interesting.
It is great for rap or elevator music or on hold tele music, but it doesn’t do shit for Blackmetal
Why not get a XV5080 since it has a better screen, 8 card slots & sample playback?
I used the built in EQs and compressors in logic and bitwig. I can’t be bothered learning new ones-and realised a lot of boutique plugins are a complete scam. They really don’t add any special sauce over built in tools. Only one I have that does is a tape saturation modelling plugin that does stuff I can’t achieve any other way.
i'm your 1000s follower! congrats✌🏼🔥
Facts bro. I LOVE my Integra7 and other hardware synths!!
I use maschine in like four different DAWs and and it literally makes it easier in each DAW😅
i got the 5080, now looking to get SRX cards. and i got the Motif XS rack too, but i wish i had gotten the es rack rather which is even cheaper
I have one for 20 years ,I like the sound and swing better than the MPC x
Very true 👍🏽
I got a Roland 5080 I heard the 3080 sounds warmer and more of a punch to it than the 5089
XV 3080 is boss
thanks bruh
Rest in peace machine 🙏 😊 welcome home akai
Amen! Everyone should see this.. I've been ranting for years about hardware synths.
It's just something about the hardware synth richness that has had me captivated since my early years of music production and I haven't really moved completely away ever. Like most the software world took over and there are great sounds there as well but hardware production free's me from the computer and gets the focus back on the music and not the technical. Thanks for watching!
That’s a big mistake IMHO. I too came from the MPC range; my first was the 2000 in ‘98 before getting the XL and various others. I’ve had 14 of them in total, but the workflow in Maschine is faster. I started on Maschine with the first one in ‘09 and it was pretty limited at first - and there’s still things NI needs to add, which they’ve now stated that they’re working on and looking to release later this year - but (to me), it’s about state of mind. Maschine is as real as you want it to be. If you look at it as just a controller and software, then that’s all it’ll ever be. I see it as far more real than that and there’s always the Plus model if that’s what you need. Akai may think it’s game over with their recent MPC 3.0 announcement, but NI seem to be playing the long game and may (yet again) have the last laugh. I wouldn’t retire my MK3 and Mikro MK3 myself and if I did, it’d just be because NI had brought out an MK4 model!
MPC 4000 still sounds radio and commercial ready right off the unit! That’s incredible how it stood the test of time.
I agree!
In going back to my maschine mk3 after a kind of disappointment with push 3 workflow and that stupid buttons. still got my 4000 hooked with some old samplers when I want that sound.
Nah use maschine with bitwig and moss implementation man
Word! Not even a USB here
Nothing ismor3 simple than Maschine plus I understand you not wanting to turn on a computer though.
Well you should have bought the Maschine plus
I bet all are cracked version. No way you paid for 400 plug ins
Have you any videos where you play a full midi file song through the XV 3080?
You want to know what We Use, Well I am a KORG Man, I have had a TON of Instruments since the M1 Came out, I use to Love the DX7 Rhodes sound that Bellish Sound but FM doesn't cut it overall, Roland has a Dark Smothered sound to Me I had a JV1010, I have a XV5050 and XV2020 and they sound Dark, XP30 Dark -- I use Korg M50, N1R, X50, NS5R, I am mostly into Electric Pianos and Acoustic Pianos and Pads with Pianos and as a Gospel Musician I feel Korg touches the Spot, They seem to Care More about their SAMPLE QUALITY, This M50 is a Baby of the M3 and It is All I would Need, I have some Yamaha cheap stuff QY100 MU128 and had a SY85 Synth a long time ago but KORG Patches MOVE ME on the Inside.
Love it!!!
Did you try Keyscape and Trillian? Along with Omnisphere, Eric Persing did the sound design (Spectrasonics). He as the chief sound designer of Roland from 1984-2004. The problem with older hardware, it is going to fail sooner or later. Some things can be repaired and some things cannot.
well ALL things will fail eventually including technology right? Older synths units like this one are cheap enough to buy again even if that were the case. Buying a new computer however just to have the latest version of the software is a bit more expensive in my opinion.
@@SoundstarMusic The VST version of the XV5080 is sold by Roland for around $130 and should run on any current computer out there. It is better than the 5080 and fully editable.
@@TonyThomas10000 yeah I'm good. Really getting away from software music production. Old is gold for me and it still works flawlessly like it should.
@@SoundstarMusic Cool...I use software because I can usually afford to get anything I want. Not true with hardware. Had a studio full of hardware in the 80s and it was a headache. I will never go back to that.
Had one (and a XV 2020 and a JV1010) sadly sold them and changed them with sme kind of mobile device. The old sound modules have some strenghts, although MIDI DIN is not very common .
Logic MPC sync do NOT work with those settings. it always chokes on start, and takes about half a bar to catch up
I love it, I just make everything in MK3 VST on FL and drag in either the midi or raw wavs
Dope 👍🏾 Thanks for sharing 🙌🏾
I've had my xv3080 with several cards for 20 plus years and still works great. And you're right I'll never get rid of it. I love hardware, can't do the plug ins
Yeah these units are built to last a lifetime! Thanks for watching.
you have changed my game with this hot tip. THANKYOU!!!
1 min in... alright youtube, b4 we get started!
Can this module be driven/control by a Roland G.I. 20 using a guitar with a GK3 midi pick up? How about a 5080? Thank you.
Love your content. Very informative and helps the user think about the obvious. I deleted a dumb question after giving it some thought. Thanks
Love the Mk3 but hate arranging inside of machine software.
I thought I was gonna see you with two XV-3080s LOL. 2:03 Oh you got SRX-05 that's the last good Roland expansion because it's the last Spectrasonics expansion.
I just got one for like $300
Roland pretty much ruled the 90s esp the JV series on nearly ever R&B record of that era esp Rodney Jerkins being a heavy user hence the Harp sound on Brandy & Monica - The Boy is Mine. I have the Roland Integra-7 in my rack that includes all the sounds of the JV-1080, JV-2080, XV-5080, plus modern Jupiter sounds. Its got some sounds from the JD990 as well. I'm pretty much hybrid these days as I use both soft synths and hardware rack mount synths. I own most of all all the sounds of the 90s and 00s in my rack from Motif ES, Fantom XR, E-MU Proteus 2000, Mo' Phatt.. I even got the Korg Triton software too. Its something about hardware that software can't replicate esp analog warmth.
I have both Maschine is better then MPC workflow
He could just write that down 🤪
For me, I never used those old ones so I'm looking at something new and different. I have an Arturia Spark LE, I should just use that, but I love the 4x4 drumpad. I got the Presonus Atom drumpad and it feels great for snare rolls.
ty bro ive been wondering how to do that for a while now🙏
No problem. Glad I could help.
I own a 2080 and absolutely love it! The expansion cards for these units are incredible, especially Vintage Synth, Techno, and House. I'm a huge fan of both plugins and hardware synths (love the V Collection, Diva, Serum, etc)...but I find the richness and polyphony from the 2080 to be almost unbeatable. Of all the hardware synths I own, I would be hard pressed to say it isn't one of the most useful, it is definitely up there with the Hydrasynth, Digitone and Analog Four despite being 25+ years old!
Is this still relevant with the new version of logic Pro? Thx
Just upgraded from the mkiii to the plus. Looking forward to getting it in the mail! Love my mpc too :)
Got the key 37 on day 1 and it's my first MPC experience. I really don't think I'll need the ssd, due to the sd card and usb slot. I don't use a lot of samples (mostly drum one-shots) and the sd card holds 100s of samples with ease. Hopefully stems won't give the 2gb of RAM too much trouble, but we'll find out when it releases.
👍🏾🔥
i found a xv 5080 at a pawn shop for $250. excellent unit! I paired it with my mpc key 61. dope combo
