No problem. This video is a little older now as I don't use the midisport 2x2 device anymore because the drivers for it were never updated to work with newer macOS's. In either case no matter how you midi the device to the computer the rest of it still applies. 👍🏾
@@SoundstarMusic Yeah I was doing this as a test. FL studio finally got machine control. I wanted to see if the concept work with logic. It does. Unfortunately the multi output option in Logic has disappeared. It’s always some BS.
The audio doesn't travel through midi/usb. It travels through the analog cables in the back going from the MPC to my Apollo rack. The midi/usb is just to connect it to the software as a slave to tell Logic that when I hit play on logic, the MPC will start.
Not sure what your setup is like or what your DAW is but typically it would go something like this. MPC Connection: Outputs of Live 2 -> Audio interface -> To computer. MIDI Connection: MIDI to USB cable -> Computer DAW- If using Logic then its the same as the video shows. Any other DAW I wouldn't have insight to. On the MPC Live II you have to turn on the Midi Sync feature. I don't own one of those units so I can't say where it is on it but you have to find it and turn it on. Hope that helps some. :)

I have never tried this with a newer MPC but midi sync is midi sync so as long as you tell the DAW which source to pull midi from it should most likely work.
Yes. but not midi notes. Its actual audio being processed from the MPC to Logic. No midi tracks all audio tracks. Whatever outboard gear that I'm using, its connected to the MPC via midi cables and then synced into LPX via audio tracks. Outboard gears is 1/4"'d into the back of my Apollo rack.
@@SoundstarMusic correct me if I'm wrong, but all you're doing is turning the mpc into a slave device, (which is what ext is, externally controlled). ---and here's where I might be wrong, you're not transmitting audio through your midi cable, but due to whatever mixer you have even interdependently(without the mpc settings you just turned on), you can push say kick drums on your mpc, and use a midi keyboard to play keys on logic and you'll hear both sounds since your mpc and logic are both connected to a mixer and the output is going to be through your speakers....so (here's the part) logic isn't transmitting audio through midi, it's through the outs (or ins) of your mixer, and just recording whatever sounds/samples that are coming from your mpc...basically a track out, and you could mix down in logic. Am I wrong or correct?
@@ahijado86 Let me take it step by step. (1) audio isn't coming through midi/sync that's just how you tell LPX to control the MPC. (2) At some point audio (even if using a mixer) has to come into the software across audio cables. Out of MPC -> Mixer -> Apollo -> LPX is the chain all done with 1/4" cables. (3) The same is true for any outboard gear but if I'm using VST instruments (say synths or strings) there's no need to come out of the computer for that. I'd just load the VST inside LPX and play it directly in the software. Which will give you midi and audio tracks. The method used in the video is moreso how to sync any hardware classic MPC with LPX and track out what you've created. If a person has used any outboard gear that's how it gets into the DAW (LPX in my case). Hope that helps. 👍🏾
@@SoundstarMusic perfect. I was just making sure, idk if some people think audio goes over midi, as you stated, audio is being triggered by the midi data and output.
Hi ! just subscribed. Thank you for the video. I'm a new MPC One user and really needed to sync my mpc to Logic X like this but I have a problem: I get a weird delay from the Akai, which I compensated with -31 ms in the sync project prefs. This way it is usable but not yet precise. Looks like a clock problem but I'm not expert with troubleshooting. What would you suggest? Thank you in advance!
I've never used the MPC One so I'm not sure what the issue could be exactly. I'm assuming you are using this in stand-alone mode or trying to vs using the MPC software correct? Midi does have its issues and sometimes "midi drift" will occur where the sound being tracked in will be out of sync. If it continues to be out of sync no matter what you do, then the best way to get around this that I have found is the old tried and true method of placing a click before each track and playing all the sounds in one by one to the DAW itself. Afterward, you would cut each sound at the appropriate place and just line up the clicks to all match the BPM of your session. Once that's done just cut out the clicks and line all the audio up and your beat will be on time. Hope that helps! Sorry for the delayed response as I'm just now seeing this.
@@SoundstarMusic thank you! Will try this as soon as possible. I must admit I haven't used my MPC that much since i bought It and am still doing everything in Logic

The Sterling H224 interface from Guitar Center works extremely well with this protocol....many thanks to you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks!
Love your content. Very informative and helps the user think about the obvious. I deleted a dumb question after giving it some thought. Thanks
Good looking on this. This used to be called Midi Beat Clock using Pro Tools. Can't believe I am using this technique again. Salute.

Logic MPC sync do NOT work with those settings. it always chokes on start, and takes about half a bar to catch up

Is this still relevant with the new version of logic Pro? Thx
Does the same concept work for a newer MPC? Live, X, etc.
