No midi is not the only way to input your beats into LPX. If you're making your music in another application, you would need to export the files for that beat into .wav files (preferably) and from that point, you can do one of two things. (1) You could open a new LPX session and import the files or (2) you can drag and drop them into the LPX timeline. One thing to consider when creating your LPX session is to make sure to set the tempo in the LPX session to the tempo of the beat itself so that everything matches up well.
