Indoor Golf Simulator Build Full Cost Breakdown and Q&A
Where did you get the computer desk from??
Building my sim now. Learning a lot by watching your videos! Love the idea of having changable hitting strips.
Man U saved me some head aches so glad I found this video, u sir are getting a like and subscribe
I have an old mattress topper. Could I use some of that foam in place of those long strips that you are using?
how has the hitting strip been holding up? Do you think you could use a bunch of strong velcro instead of the glue between the lexan and turf?
Great video😊
Good video
did you notice any spin differences? looking for a mat that doesn’t reduce spin too much. I tried a sigpro softy lite and it was too soft and reduced spin
Spin was very close across the board, but slightly higher on the gel. It will really come down to how you strike the ball, especially if you’re a sweeper. But just like on the coarse, firmer ground typically produces more spin.
What carpet did you use for your simulator.
Very cool! Thx
Why is you youtube video only HD and not 4K when we are looking at your 4k proj output?
I ordered the AK700ST!! WhooHoo!
Looks like I have the same gym mats. How flat does the turf lie? When I walk on the rubber mats, it seems like it will be not flat.
I also want to set up a golf simulation room like yours, and your video was super helpful !! One thing I’m curious about is whether the ball ever bounces hard off the screen or shanks into the opposite wall, potentially damaging it. It looks like there’s no protection for the walls away from the screen, so I’m a bit concerned. How has it been in your experience?
Thanks for the kind words! With the Carl's C-Series design, the ball doesn't come back hard at all. It kind of hits, drops and rolls right to you, I would definitely add the safety foam around the perimeter they sell as it offers protection to the EMT pipes. As for the exposed wall with the shanks, since I hit 8' away from the screen, shanks really aren't a problem. The shot that could potentially hit the wall is a toe tip, but I have a foldout piece of gym mat on that side that I bring out when my daughter plays. If you want to talk more about your build, reachout to me at pixelgolfco.com, happy to help free of charge!
How does it handle the potential worm burner ricochet compared to the original with bar in front?
It's night and day! The original design I had the foam protection wedge and a worm burner would ramp up it and could come back. The C-Series design just kills the speed. Really glad they made the change!
Would the 700 be a good fit for floor mount the 500 is backordered to long out
The problem with the 700 is it would be too far back for a floor mount and would introduce some more problems with casting shadows and placement.
Where did you get your PC mount?
I bought this kit on Amazon, amzn.to/3VDOkWk and then I just configured it how I wanted to make it fit the dimensions and added wood from Lowes.
@@PixelGolf Creative solution, thanks for sharing I will look into it!

Excellent, facing same challenges. Thanks

I recently ordered a BenQ AH500ST and plan to use it in both indoor and outdoor settings. Have you had a chance to test its performance outdoors? My setup will include some "light-blocking" materials around the enclosure, and I’m hoping they’ll be sufficient to preserve the projector’s picture quality.
I have not tried outdoors, but I have used it in full brightness in my setup and it was still fairly bright. Having 4000 lumens should help your situation.
That had 0 to do with the simulator setup
For golf simulators you need a good PC to run the software and a lot of people don't know what specs they need or what to buy. I'm just giving them the option to build one themselves and there's been a lot of people who have built this PC for their sims and are very happy with it. We do have a lot more videos on our channel to build a simulator if you need help.
What about the bottom section. I have the custom one and if you hit right on the bottom of the screen you can get some bounce back
Which custom one are you referring to? Feel free to give me a call. Info is on our website, pixelgolfco.com
Great information. Thanks for posting this review, much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
What is the flex on the shafts compared to? Senior flex or regular flex?
More towards senior
I truly appreciate your videos! Where did you get this CPU stand that you have mounted on the wall? I like the simplicity and that it allows displaying the CPU as well.
Hello, I bought a couple of these kits, amzn.to/3BoUsLd and then pieced them together to make it work and added wood slats from Lowes.
Great content as usual! I have the Mevo+ and I've only had it for a week or so and like it alot. There is one big concern I have though and I was wondering how you address this. The PC I hook up to my LM/screen to practice and play using GS Pro uses my house WIFI network since I don't have a ethernet connection in my basement. In order to use the Mevo+ I always have to disconnect my pc from the network so I can choose the Mevo from the network options. That means I lose the internet so I can't do anything else requiring internet on that pc. Is that normal? Is that what you do? I moved from an original SkyTrak and didn't have that problem. Maybe I don't have the Mevo+ hooked up correctly. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!
Hello, It has been a while since I used the Mevo+, but there s a way around this... I can't fully remember what the fix was, but they have great customer support and should help you through this with no issues. I will also look into this and see if I can get you an answer.
Is there a concern about the projector being hit as it is mounted in front of the golfer?
Not with the way the swing arc is. I used my old Optoma projector in this same spot for over 2 years and it was never a problem.
How do you think will compare to the ak700st that is coming out soon? 4k and 4,000 lumens.
I have that projector for review, so stay tuned!
Hey! Is your hitting insert now the one from Carl's place or did you decide to stick with your DIY insert? If you are using the Carl's place hitting insert, how did you integrate it with your current gym tile mat and moneyputt turf setup? I know the dimensions were a little different from the two. Thanks so much!
Hi Josh, I am still using my DIY insert as the dimensions are 13x30" for mine so in order to use the HotShots I would have to buy a new piece of turf... I plan on possibly switching down the road though if some new turf comes out in which case I'll be sure to make the cutout 12x30 so I can use the HotSHot as well. As for the thickness difference, Carl's now makes 1.25" thick puzzle mats so the height will be pretty close if using your own turf. alnk.to/faCv5ck
@ Yeah I was thinking about maybe doing that as well. The only thing with the Carl’s place mat is that for my business size, the mat would cost around $3000 compared to the Prosource 1” that you linked which would be around $1500.
Great Video, Can you add a link for the turf you used for the hitting strip.

Where did you get the black gym mats???
Amazon, amzn.to/3VldJUw get 1" thick
would this unit be too hot to mount on a small child?
😂I mean, it didn't run very hot at all...
Can the wireless dongle work with the PC as well? I'm trying to understand how it can work with iOS and Windows device. Thank for the content
It basically does screen share, which will work best with less graphic hungry software like the Garmin R10 that has IOS support.
Went looking for sales on the 500st but came across a sale on the TK700STi 4K from BenQ. 1299$ from Best Buy. Which do you think would be better for a garage setup? Is 4k that impressive?
The TK710STI is a great projector, but the biggest thing you need to think of is the brightness output. If you have a pretty low lit environment you may be fine with the 3000 lumens on the 700STI, but if you have a brighter area you may want to go with a projector with more lumens like this one. 4K makes a BIG difference in image quality, but if you're sacrificing brightness, you could end up with a less impressive image overall. The other thing to consider is you need a more powerful PC to run 4K smoothly so that also adds extra cost. Finally, the 700STI will need to be about twice as far back as this projector so you'll need to confirm it will work with your screen, hitting location and room. Feel free to reach out to me directly and I am happy to talk you through your build and what works best for you.
May i know what kind of wall desk/rack that you have used for your pc setup?
Hello, I just bought a pipe shelf kit from Amazon and pieced it together to the shape I wanted and added wood slats.
What size screen please
The screen in this video is 85” tall by 115” wide.

Love review thanks
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Curious: Why didn't you use the carls built in kit screen for this space of yours? Seems perfect for it.
I decided I wanted it to be easily moveable and I put it in at the start of Covid. It was just supposed to be a temporary thing, but myself and the fam liked it so much it's here to stay!
@@PixelGolf Makes sense!
If you go the custom route, how important is it to maintain dimensions that fit a 4:3 ratio? For example, 10.5x8 is 4:3 perfectly, but if I have enough space to go 11x9 is it worth it? That's more like a 5:4 ratio. It's def more screen, but is it worth the hassle of trying to fill the screen completely with custom resolution etc? This is the analysis paralysis I currently have.
So mine actually isn't a perfect 4:3 as I went with it a little wider to fill my space how I wanted too. Setting a custom resolution isn't a big deal, the only downside is if I watch something on my Apple TV in native 4:3 there's a little bit of width gap as Apple doesn't allow custom resolutions.
@@PixelGolf Thanks for replying, it sounds like you would recommend having as big of an impact screen as possible regardless of aspect ratio then? Examples would be 11x9 when you can't fit 12x9, vs 10.5x8 which would be proper 4:3 then?
Great video and easy to follow..I hope. Lol ..Currently using a mat from rawhide. A little rough on joints. Looking to make one like yours and place it into my current mat. Of course question... plastic end pieces are 3/4 " thick but foam tape runners are 1" thick. ?? Am I missing 1/4" somewhere. Probably a joke in there as well. Thank you again for you quality videos.
The end pieces are 3/4” and the foam is 1”, but the 1/4” difference is negligible and with the adhesive under the turf and the end pieces as well as the velcro, it ends up being about perfect. Also, you can just use 3/4" wood for the end pieces as well and save some money.
Thank you..
How does the color compare to the money put turf? Also, how much height difference is there between your diy floor and Carl's insert?
The color of the Carl's insert is a brighter green, which I like. I've always thought the Money Putt Turf was a little too dark. There's about a 1/4" height difference, but Carl's now makes there own puzzle mats that fix this as they are 1.25" tall, alnk.to/44WImEY
I had a commercially manufactured hitting insert similar in construction to what you have described here. I don't know what type of plastic material they used for the actual board, but after a few weeks it started to curl up a bit on the edges. What has your experience been with the material you have used?
I can tell you after years of using, the board has never done that. Stick with Lexan.
@@PixelGolf Thanks so much for the reply. I will try the Lexan with the new insert I'll be putting together. And.... thanks so much for the time and effort you put into this endeavor.
idk man i got the Optoma GT2100HDR Compact Short Throw Laser Home Theater and Gaming Projector, 1080p HD with 4K HDR Input, Bright 4,200 Lumens for Day and Night Viewing and if you turn up the saturation when you press L it looks really good feels like a big price difference to jus see a few little thigns
I can tell you for sure it makes a big visual difference in person. Every time I test a new projector that's 1080P I am always anxious to get back to 4K as quickly as possible. But, for the price difference, yes most people will be more than happy without it!
Thanks for the video. Any issues with shanks with your enclosure setup?
I can tell you I've hit a ton of shanks and they all stay within the enclosure, but I am hitting from just 8' away. The shots that are the problem is the dreadful toe shots that new golfer tend to hit. My 14 year old has hit a few of them at the start, but I have a 2" thick padded mat that slides out on the right side adding further protection.
What height is this mounted above the hitting surface? What distance from the screen?
The Optoma is about 6.5' back as it's a shorter throw ratio(.49) and the BenQ is about 9' back as it's not as short of a throw ratio. They're both about 1' above the top of the screen.
The painting on your wall - absolute fire.
Thank you!
How far are you hitting from your screen? Looking at buying but there’s so much info out there that you need to be 12 feet away or more but that chews up a lot of space!
Hello, I’m hitting from 8’ away. I was hitting from 9’, but found 8’ to be a great compromise.
