Thanks for taking the time to show us the difference in hitting inserts. I am ready to set up my first dream golf simulatior on a budget. I would love to have something free to help with it. Keep up the awesome work, and I look forward to watching your videos, new & older ones!
Im finishing my build this weekend based on specs you gave. This would shorten my last project. Excited to get it all in place. Thanks again for the videos
Hi, I’m just starting my project and wanted to do my floor like in one of his previous videos. But his floor height was only 1.5 inches and these mats are 1.75. Did you end up getting one of these and if so how did you deal with the height difference? Thanks!
I'm actually in the process of building a simulator just like yours, such a nice set up. One of these inserts would be so nice!!! Keep up the great quality videos. I love the detail you provide!
Currently doing a reno in my garage to allow for my dream garage golf setup, and the gel hitting strip would be the cherry on top! 🍒 Would love to see how they feel in person. 🤞 Thanks for the awesome review!
@@PixelGolf appreciate it! Getting new flooring and vaulting the ceilings then its sim time. Just scoping everything out and researching as much as possible now
Awesome content - thank you! I’m in sim planning now so perfect timing. Inserts are 1 3/4” high whereas most pads 1” plus turf 1/2” so need to make up 1/4” for surrounding turf. I’m sure there is solution, doing research is part of the fun 🙂
@@PixelGolf Most of the guys watching your videos (including me for sure) have OCD, that's why we're obsessing over details and not just buying a kit...just saying 😆
Great review as always. A lot of my sim was put together based on your videos. I have a hot shot mat and elbows hurt after getting it but I did go nuts after completing the sim. Been looking forward to this release for a while.
Love the reviews here! I have the hot shot the OG mat is a bit tough as time goes on because the ply bunches a bit and can get grabby. I like that the gel version is very similar to your DIY version.
Timely review as I'm rebuilding my sim flooring soon. I wouldn't mind puting that gel insert in the garage rebuild! Thanks for the great videos and thanks for the information
I was planning on cutting out a section of my current hitting mat to accommodate a different insert but now I think I’ll wait “just in case”. 😂 Seriously, great review and it has me rethinking which insert I need.
Great idea. If I could do anything differently, I would've stuck with a more common size like 12x30 so I could utilize these inserts and some others. Still very happy with my DIY one as well though.
Great timing!! I am in the process of putting my Sim in my garage. Enjoyed your review of these new strips. So I would really appreciate you sending me one of those inserts. Thanks for the videos. Very informative and helpfull!
Thanks for the review. I've been looking to purchase a replacement hitting strip and this analysis of the various options was perfect to help me decide which one is best for me.
That gel mat looks super cool...pricey for sure, but it seems like an interesting move in the right direction. Great video - thanks for reviewing these!
I would put the feel of my DIY insert between the foam and gel, more towards the foam side. I use a memory foam, so it’s more dense and slow to rise compared to the Carls foam.
This video was great. Doing a garage build and trying to figure out the flooring. Are these inserts the same height as your custom ones / would they line up with you existing flooring if they were right size?
Appreciate the review. Hard to find thorough info on inserts. Be nice to know spin rate differential....for the different inserts. Taking your best shots and comparing. Great review!
Thanks for the reviews. Looks a little further back in this video because of the mat, but what’s your typical tee to screen distance for your simulator setup?
Nice. Interesting to see the difference on these. Could definitely use one in my garage and I was thinking of making one on my own but good to see the options. Gel or foam for the drawing!
Hi Jeffery, You were one of the 3 winners, Congrats man! Head to pixelgolfco.com and give me a call so I can get your info. Please ensure you are talking to me.
Really interested in trying the feel version. Have been hitting off a sigpro not the sixth for quite a while. It's been good but would like to see what a feel one is like
I can tell you I've hit a ton of shanks and they all stay within the enclosure, but I am hitting from just 8' away. The shots that are the problem is the dreadful toe shots that new golfer tend to hit. My 14 year old has hit a few of them at the start, but I have a 2" thick padded mat that slides out on the right side adding further protection.
Thanks for the review. I have the original insert and find it a little too grippy and firm on shots. Like your explanation of the gel as I take a divot when at the course.
Great video, having shoulder problems I'm interested in the gel mat myself i will have a look on carls place. i just had a thought is it possible to place your tee in the mat insert gap , understanding it must be in the monitor window ?
Yeah, you could probably do that with these since they are an enclosed design, unlike my DIY one that requires the sides to have room. As long as your launch monitor has a big enough viewing window it should work. Good idea!
@pixelgolf What do you use for audio in your sim? I know projectors have speakers, but if you are watching a movie or need better quality what do you use?
Hello, for movie mode I use this, amzn.to/4g3twPo It is a powerful soundbar that has detachable wireless rear speakers that you can put behind you and a wireless sub you can leave plugged into an outlet i the room. It is very easy and sounds great! I have an extension cord behind my screen I can reach under and pull out to plug the soundbar in and put it on a stand in front of the screen. I have an Apple TV plugged into my projector that I use for movies and it pairs with the soundbar via Bluetooth. You can checkout my racing sim video on the channel, I show this setup on there.
Are you able to accommodate lefty's in your hitting bay? How close is the wall to your hitting strip? My setup looks like it will be similar to your layout
I you had to pick between the divot board or the gel insert which would you go with? Also can the Carl's hitting insert be "returfed" or would you need to replace it entirely? It's kinda pricey so replacing it every 6 months would add up.
I would do the DIY divot board to start, see if you like it so you aren't putting too much money into it. I don't believe the Hot Shot Inserts are replaceable...
Another great review! I was thinking about doing the DYI route that you show in your previous videos. My question is how does your DYI hitting strip compare to the three you just reviewed? Thanks again for the great content.
The DIY one I made works great using the foam I linked in that video. It feels a little firmer through the ball then the Hot Shot Foam version. The Gel is in it's own league though... Feels pretty dang realistic!
Like the review, informative. Do you know how they hold up outside? Have a semi protected setup, but can still catch some rain from time to time. Couldn't find anything on Carl's site if interior only. Cheers
The color of the Carl's insert is a brighter green, which I like. I've always thought the Money Putt Turf was a little too dark. There's about a 1/4" height difference, but Carl's now makes there own puzzle mats that fix this as they are 1.25" tall, alnk.to/44WImEY
great information. With the height of the mat and hitting strip at 1.75, how does the height work with a money putt at .375. If you are looking for a seamless turf/ hitting area / putting area, would this work well?
It would stick up slightly higher. If you want a seamless look and perfect color match, you should definitely look at the DIY hitting insert on the channel
Hey! Is your hitting insert now the one from Carl's place or did you decide to stick with your DIY insert? If you are using the Carl's place hitting insert, how did you integrate it with your current gym tile mat and moneyputt turf setup? I know the dimensions were a little different from the two. Thanks so much!
Hi Josh, I am still using my DIY insert as the dimensions are 13x30" for mine so in order to use the HotShots I would have to buy a new piece of turf... I plan on possibly switching down the road though if some new turf comes out in which case I'll be sure to make the cutout 12x30 so I can use the HotSHot as well. As for the thickness difference, Carl's now makes 1.25" thick puzzle mats so the height will be pretty close if using your own turf. alnk.to/faCv5ck
@ Yeah I was thinking about maybe doing that as well. The only thing with the Carl’s place mat is that for my business size, the mat would cost around $3000 compared to the Prosource 1” that you linked which would be around $1500.
I think that’s mainly for their mat to keep it from sliding. You may or may not need it for your flooring type. The gym mat is mainly for raising the hitting area to allow enough depth for a hitting mat.
Nice review. I would totally buy from carls if they made a mat that had 2 hitting sides instead of one in the middle of their big mat. I personally like having more room to swing even if I’m offset from my screen.
Thank you, that means a lot. These videos definitely take time away from me playing on the sim, but I'm happy to help others when I see comments like this! Maybe I'll break out my kids chemistry set and give a DIY one a whirl😂

I am not due to how I set it up. You would need 15’ of width to accommodate both dexterity’s without having to do two hitting locations and offset.
I you had to pick between the divot board or the gel insert which would you go with? Also can the Carl's hitting insert be "returfed" or would you need to replace it entirely? It's kinda pricey so replacing it every 6 months would add up.

Like the review, informative. Do you know how they hold up outside? Have a semi protected setup, but can still catch some rain from time to time. Couldn't find anything on Carl's site if interior only. Cheers
I’m not sure how it would hold up outdoors. Being that it is removable, I would just take it out when not in use.
How does the color compare to the money put turf? Also, how much height difference is there between your diy floor and Carl's insert?
Thanks, always watching these types of videos to know more about what is out there
There's definitely a lot coming down the pipelines! Crazy to see how much this industry has grown in the last 4 years.
Do you think that the Carl's non-slip base is a good replacement for the gym floor mats? And drawing entry.
I think that’s mainly for their mat to keep it from sliding. You may or may not need it for your flooring type. The gym mat is mainly for raising the hitting area to allow enough depth for a hitting mat.
Great review. I would like to try the gel and foam to see which I would like better.
Thank you! Yeah, it would be nice to be able to demo them. Very different feel from both.
Might have to get that gel one. Can you insert a tee in it? I assume no. Wonder how it feels in relation to the softie mat
