2024/10/27 Ephesians Series # 28 The Panorama of Marriage-Christ and His Bride Ephesians 5:22-33
As we look at, and dissect, Ephesians 5:26-27, what we will find is an amazing panorama, a big picture, a 10,000 foot overview, if you will, of the very heart of marriage. I say it is the heart of marriage because what we see in this passage is God’s heart for marriage, displayed in the mystery of the union of Christ and His Bride, the Church. It's a beautiful picture and we must understand it to really grasp what a Christian marriage is to look like.

Psalm 85:6, “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” This is a simple and wonderful prayer for revival. It recognizes that revival is not man-made, but that it is given by God. Yet it also recognizes that we may and should pray for revival, and that we should pray with godly expectation. This prayer for revival “…implies that the people were alive once, have died in ...

Look at what Paul writes in verse 8 of Ephesians 5, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…” “For you were once darkness”- Notice that Paul doesn’t say that they were “in the darkness”, he says they “were once darkness”. And just as this verse says, “you are now light”, the heart of the matter is one of identity. He’s telling them “this is who ...

.The apostle Paul knew the importance of example in teaching others. He told the Corinthians that he was their father in the gospel and then added, “Therefore I urge you, imitate me.” (1 Corinthians 4:16). Later in the same letter, he said to them, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1). In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul encouraged them by saying, “And you beca...

I feel the need to address the tone of Paul’s letters and thus the tone of my preaching through our texts the last few weeks. Paul has had a sense of urgency, of determination, maybe even of warning here in the latter part of Ephesians 4. Often, within our culture, there’s a pressure on pastors to tone down the message and feed it to the gentle and unaware flock, not realizing there is a wolf, ...

One of the challenges Paul faced as he wrote this letter was to encourage the saints living in Ephesus to leave their old way of life and to follow Christ completely. Somehow, some of them thought that it was ok to call themselves Christians and yet desire and do the things of the world. This is a challenge that should be aimed directly at the church in America! Let's look at Paul's admonition ...

A conversation took place last week before our Bible Study class that has been on my mind since then. It was about the Left Behind movies and, in particular, the scene where a pastor is in his church building AFTER the rapture has occurred. Basically, he missed it! Why? Because, as he came to realize, he had a lot of head knowledge about God and the Bible, but he didn’t have a relationship with...

Last week we spent our time talking about the gifts given to the Church by the ascended Christ. If you remember, there were to categories of gifts; those I called the “foundational” gifts, that of apostle and prophet. It was through these gifts that we were given the completed canon of Scripture. We then looked at the “maintenance” gifts of evangelist and pastor/ teacher. These gifts are ours f...

Ephesians 4:11-16 is one of the greatest descriptions you will find in the Bible of what church ministry should look like. It’s a passage that I have spent a lot of time on and have always hoped to have as the framework for my ministry. In Ephesians 4:7 Paul wrote that “to each one of us” in the body of Christ- the church- “grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift”. This is let...

“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” Ephesians 4:7 Even though Paul has been teaching on unity, and he is continuing to do so, he takes a moment to speak to the individual aspect of our being in the body: “to each one of us”. He does this because the body, though one, is made up of many parts. “For as the body is one and has many members, but all th...

Here in our text for today, he comes back to where he started. Ephesians 3:1says, “For this reason . . .”, now...

The Apostle John, in his first epistle, instructs us with these words, (2) “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He (Jesus) walked.” 1 John 2:6 John is simply telling us that if we are truly “in Christ”, (to use a favorite phrase of the Apostle Paul), then we will “walk” (a figurative picture of the way we live) even as Jesus did. Did you know that WWII Black veterans and descendants are STILL not allowed GI bill benefits? There is a bill in the house to change this. Authentic CRT seeks to uncover and remedy these inequities.

While there is a good deal of truth to your statement about the Black veterans of WWII, it is not totally true. However, we don't need "authentic" CRT (that would be Socialism or Communism) to fix this issue. We need legislation to make sure it is corrected and never happens again. Acts of racism in our country's history does not prove that the nation and its foundation is racist to the core, it only proves that the human heart is wicked and that racism exists. Unfortunately, you have done what many on the liberal side of that argument have done and that is pick and choose the historical events that prove your point and neglect the larger picture. There is more freedom and opportunity for all people in this nation than any other nation on the planet (Lebron James is proof of that). Let's work together to right the wrongs as we see them instead of demonizing a whole segment of our population simply because of their skin color.

@@timwormuth3000 I’m all for righting wrongs including the systemic ones. If conservatives of good will would support legislation with animated action to get these WWII Black veterans their GI Bill benefits passed in Congress it would go a long way towards repairing the breech in our discourse. Where is you conservative representative and Fox News on this? Also, a major thrust of the civil rights movement is Christian including the authors of CRT. The dealing of individual hearts is better left up to church. CRT’s focus is on systemic racism that is imbedded in law primarily and secondarily in education and economics policy. Most of the authors of CRT are not communist. It is so easy to throw label around when it would be easy to listen to authors and law professor who are living today who refute that. Also, did you know that Karl Marx actually supported the abolitionist to free enslaved people in the US? This is more than can be said for impeached President Andrew Johnson, who was an enslaver, wrote that blacks were inferior, and actively tried to block the 14th amendment that made enslaved person citizens. And this is more than can be said for DJT’s favorite previous President, Andrew Jackson, who was an enslaver who ordered harsh and brutal punishment of enslaved persons. So labels are not a substitute for real dialogue and understanding other view points.

@@wademitchell3817 I can agree with you on some of this, but not all. The civil rights movement was Christian with men like Martin Luther King, Jr., however, Critical Race Theory is not Christian at its foundation, it is Marxist. And we all know that Karl Marx hated God and religion. Karl Marx was never about freedom for all people. His goal was to bring down society's by putting people into groups and then pitting them against one another. He believed the state was god and people were just tols of the state. The problem in America is not systemic racism, it is sinfulness in every human heart that can only be changed by the transforming work of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Btw, I'm not just calling names. The three women who founded the BLM movement (with its CRT core) openly admit to being trained in Marxist teaching and practice. They admit to being anti-family and pro-choice. They admit to being "spiritual", but certainly not Christian. You can't leave the heart and individual sin to the church and society to the masses. The Creator God of the Bible instituted government and gave instruction for its purpose and practice. The church is to impact individual souls AND the righteous life of the nation. I'm not calling for a theocracy, but for a nation that abides by the principles of our founding documents which speak of the rights that we are endowed with by our Creator. CRT wants to destroy that.
