    This is awesome 😊 and I just love your site, I work at a daycare with toddlers and sometimes preschool and some of the preschoolers are having a hard time with spelling or recognizing the letters of their name and I'm going to try this strategy 😊. I want to thank you for the awesome and wonderful resources I pray I can help the kids retain the information 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Exactly the video I needed! On day 4 of quiet time in my home (5 and 3 y.o) and although it’s going better than I expected I was starting to wonder how I would keep their interest so I will be downloading your printables! Also, I love the tip to spend special one on one time with them before going into it. I think this will be really helpful for them to feel good about actually giving me the space I need during that time rather than trying to still get my attention constantly.

    We've only been doing it twice a day for 4 days, but it's been going better than I expected. She doesn't usually leave the area and has only come to me once, to show me what she did. We use a special quilt in our playroom that only comes out for quiet time and she seems to understand that she needs to play with her bins on or near the quilt. She is staying with her bins for about 10 minutes, though I am keeping the timer at 6 minutes. I do feel like the timer dinging at the end scares/distracts her. Can you share more about how you are using your timer or where you are putting it? I am building a play dough seashell quiet bin and a farm scene popsicle sticks and little people quiet bin to rotate out the 2 bins from this week that she enjoyed the least so she will have two new bins to explore next week. Love following along with your journey! I think you really hit a key point, about spending the quality time right before quiet time so little ones are "filled up" and feeling secure before moving to independent play. My little one is 18 months and usually very clingy, but she is doing well with the quiet time when I give her a snack and read to her while cuddling right before. I have also noticed that she plays longer if I am just outside the room, putting things away in the hallway than if I am in the same room and sitting to sew or do other work. It almost seems like she wants to keep looking at me to show me what she's doing or perhaps for reassurance when I'm right there. So I'm trying to stay nearby, walking and moving just outside the room, but moving past the doorway frequently and since I've been doing this, she hasn't come to me yet. I am excited to see what week 2 holds for us!

      That is wonderful Sarah! It is interesting to see what works for each little one - as everyone seems to need something a little bit different. I am so happy you are finding what works for your little one when she is so tiny. For a timer, I wonder about using a visual timer - you can get many different ones for free as apps - we have one that goes on the iPad and it is a full circle. The colour moves on the circle, sort of like a clock, revealing a full picture (like a duck) when the time is up. There is no sound, so it wouldn't distract your little one. I am excited to hear how your journey continues! Good luck!

    The other bins we have for this week, but haven't used yet are the dripping popsicles, elastics on toilet paper rolls with numbers 1, 2, and 3, and an imaginative play clothesline with clothespins and bits of cloth. I have a picture of them, but don't know how to post it on here.

    So glad you are doing this series! We are starting quiet bins with my 18 month old daughter this week. She still naps, but I want to introduce her to the idea of enjoying quiet time. I printed your free labels and made a bin for each label to use during the month. So far we have used the beads and pipe cleaners, which she absolutely LOVES, the imaginative play "cupcake soup" from your book, which she also really enjoys, a magnetic quiet bin that I made which she did not enjoy so much, and a button bin, which she was wild about. I set the timer for 5 minutes, but she went for 11 minutes on the bins she really enjoyed, which really surprised me. I am so happy you are sharing your journey and I appreciate all the tips that are helping us to be successful!

    • @howweelearn
      @howweelearn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Analise! I am so happy you are finding these videos helpful. Thank you for your encouragement! A great way to increase vocabulary in your little ones is simply to talk together! It really is that easy. As you are having conversations try to choose one or two times a day to really dive into that conversation. If you child is telling you about something, expand on what he is saying. So if he tells you that his stuffed kitty is his favourite toy, you might say to him: "This tiny, soft kitten is your favourite toy? Why is it your favourite?" A second great way to build vocabulary is by introducing your child to something new. You might pull out a neat box you received from a trip, or even a cool kitchen gadget! Language develops very naturally once we slow down and make it a priority. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching my videos.

    Nobody seems to use organic white or whole grain flour for sourdough. White flour is unhealthy. It turns to fat in your body. Plus you can buy a loaf of white sourdough bread for $3.95 at any Jewel in town. So seriously what’s the point of using white flour?
