Leak No More: My journey to Replace the Lexus Heater Core!
มุมมอง 536หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode, I'm diving into the process of replacing the heater core in my LX470. About six months back, I had to swap out my heater tees, which had unfortunately failed, but in the process, I accidentally damaged the heater core. Recently, I started to notice a faint smell of coolant inside the Lexus, and after some digging, I confirmed that the heater core was indeed leaking. This video ...

FINALLY!! Roof fixed and headliner installed! 🙌
มุมมอง 1945 หลายเดือนก่อน
After struggling with stripped rivnuts in my roof for four years, I finally found someone who could help me repair the damage. Once the roof was fixed and the rivnuts were properly installed, I was able to reattach the headliner in my Xterra. The sense of completion and satisfaction I felt having my Xterra whole again is indescribable. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance an...

I replaced my Timing Chains and Guides on my 2007 Nissan Xterra! Here's how it went...
To confirm...did you drill the remaining revnuts out?
The only two rivnuts that were drilled out were the ones that were stripped. They were successfully replaced with new rivnuts, effectively resolving the issue.
Did you order your timing chain kit and water pump from a Nissan dealer?
I ordered them from rockauto.com.
Ur hands must be tiny i need every inch of space up in that little hole to get to the oil filter and u swing part of it to the side
It’s not too difficult. Instead of reaching through the viewport, I approach from the side and utilize the opening to see the filter.
Is this bumper can be install winch directly or needs to be abother bracket ?
Per the we website: (The optional Winch Frame allows for installation of TJM Torq and WARN Zeon 9500 winches). Looks like it would be an additional fee.
How many o-rings did you replace?
Oh man. I don’t even remember. If I touched it then it was replaced. New hoses, seals, o-rings. Was there a specific area you were referring to?
my 07 xterra has a valve cover gasket leak in the same spot - might go after it tonight - the surface of your lower plenum looks really clean or new - i might put some rtv down in that area, but will make sure to tighten in the proper sequence and torque spec
The rear bottom bolt is the trickiest one, but I think a thin layer of RTV would not hurt.
Sir, thanks very much!
You’re very welcome!
21:48 - Question for you - I can hear water swishing around in the back somewhere as I take turns (so I've got a lot back there) - those two holes on either side - do you think that is where most water will flow if the leak is somewhere near the rear of the car (perhaps in the luggage rack connection points, but I guess also the side-rear window seal)? I need to find the leak ASAP of course, but if I can't rig mp shop vac to do some water extraction I am going to go nuts hearing that every time I go around a corner...
Awe man. No good. I still couldn’t tell you exactly where the water came from on mine. This was one of the most troubling jobs for me. I can deal with a lot but I do not like a leaky vehicle. After taking off all the trim in the rear I’m more confident that the leaking was coming from the back glass moldings and the trim that sits underneath them. Also, my subwoofer box had a lot of water in it and rusted the speaker. Something to consider. If you’re able to, I would suggest taking out the back paneling and carpet to do some water tests. I wish you the best of luck. 🤞
@@TheNonnell Thanks! That is the plan. Have some time in the next few days to start removing stuff. I appreciate the reply!
It looks pretty nice good for the vehicle year no rust like mine😂 I can barely find the bolt on mine and see 😂 maybe because they sprayed with the rust prevention it make it rust worst didn't make any better it keeps the humidity in it
Thanks! I was very fortunate with this X. The previous owner kept it immaculate and all service was up to date. As much as I love it, I think I may part ways with it in the coming year.
At minute 53 did you have to back out that 12mm flange bolt behind the oil filter all the way in order to remove the timing cover? Is the crankshaft bolt or any other bolt torque to yield?
The rack and pinion was in the way so I was unable to remove it completely; however, that did not stop me from taking off the timing cover. Do you mean, is there a specific way the crank bolt needs to be torqued?
@@TheNonnell Knowing in advance that bolt does not need to be removed completely to remove the timing cover helps a lot. Torque-to-yield bolts are considered one time use, so I was curious if the Nissan Xterra crankshaft bolt is like that. I will check the Nissan Service Manual.
@ I replaced mine. It was inexpensive. I’m not sure if it called for it but I thought it would be a good idea.
You still have the Camry?

Nice hair cut thanks for sharing.
Thanks! 🙏
My relative of mine frontier truck has smod. Has similar shudder you spoke of has yours ever gotten better? Or is it still running? Thanks in advance for answering =). Its been caught early like yours.
Absolutely! It's time for me to create an update video. The SMOD incident occurred when my Xterra hit approximately 189,000 miles. I’m still behind the wheel of the Xterra, which is on the verge of reaching 227,000 miles. I had a new radiator installed and performed several coolant and transmission flushes when the issue was discovered. There’s definitely a reason to be optimistic! 🙌
@@TheNonnell I appreciate the information and I did watch bother videos. I will keep eye out for your next video. Thanks again, as soon as I get a few things squared her I plan to replace the radiator and flush it. Course will not be driving it until it is done.
So recently I’ve replaced both door speakers with a pair of Kenwood KFC - 1666S, as well as replaced my factory Toyota radio with a new JVC KD-X280BT single din car stereo. I’m looking to replace the back speakers which never worked when I bought the car used a couple years ago with the same pair in your video the Pioneer TS-G690. At the checkout cart on Crutchfield’s website it says, “Replacing the high-impedance factory speaker with a 4-ohm speaker will result in higher volume levels and can cause the factory radio or amplifier to overheat. 🚫” are you able to explain that further since you made the same exact upgrade as myself? I’m a bit worried, so an explanation would be truly appreciate. Thank you so much, Nonnell for your knowledge and help.
I'm not an expert in audio systems, but I recently had to replace the subwoofer in my Lexus. Unfortunately, the replacement speaker didn't match the factory's ohm rating. The technician informed me that due to this mismatch, I would have to increase the volume to achieve the same sound level as before. I don't know the specifications for the Camry, but it seemed to produce better sound and was definitely louder with its factory radio, especially after having new aftermarket speakers installed. The Camry has never had any audio problems relating to this installation. I hope that helps. I found this Reddit page that may help explain more: www.reddit.com/r/CarAV/comments/pozovb/replacing_8ohm_speakers_with_4ohm/
If you're from the rustbelt- those uca camber bolts always freeze up n need to be cut out same w bottom ;(
I bet so. I was fortunate that this Lexus was rust free. The frame and under carriage components looked great.
I replaced the heater core on an early 80's Fox body Mustang and that was a nightmare. It took approximately 4 hrs to get to the core 5 minutes to replace and about 3.5 hrs for reassembly. Great content but I will never do this job.
Indeed, that's the disappointing aspect of the job. While swapping out the part itself doesn't take long, the real time-consuming task lies in disassembling everything and then reassembling it all.
God I hate removing a dash. I love seeing assembly line video’s and they just take the whole assembly and slide it in like some mythical magic. Poof! Installed! Yet it doesn’t come out like that.
I completely agree. It would have been fantastic to experience a straightforward process for removing and installing this dashboard. It seems that with older model cars, the connections and installation procedures are often more complicated than necessary. I found myself scratching my head at some of the engineering.
You are braver than I..
Thanks. Just when I think I’ve done the hardest job on my vehicle, I prove myself wrong. 😆
my heater core on my 2000 avalon is clogged, after seeing this.. i'll just stick with driving in the cold, thank god heated seats still works. thats way way too much work. lol
😆 it was extensive for sure, but fortunately I had another vehicle to drive and a garage for the Lexus while I did the work.
Hell no
😆 yeah. Did not happen.
hi here in australia i pay $150 per hour for labour very expensive.great job i think i would have to go cold
Similar price per hour here in the US. I think it took me roughly 6 hours to take everything out over a few days and about the same amount to put everything back together. It took me over a month to complete the job as I decided to replace several other parts while I was in there. Waiting for parts to come in was my biggest hold up. Overall, it’s not a very complex job, just need patience. 😁
@@TheNonnell 150 aus is over 200 us .just replaced heater tees that was hard enough no chance of do that job
I agree. Replacing my tees is what got me into this mess. Also, replacing Tees and laying across the engine is one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve had to do.
Do you have a part number for the roof drip molding? Thanks in advance!
Yes. It should be same for left and right. 7550660031.
Just out of curiosity is there a reason you have the window rolled down?
Not that I can recall. Obviously, for drilling purposes it would have made more sense for it to be in the up position.
Ok gotcha, thank you! Very helpful video :)
75W-90 GL-5 is also ok? Any LSD additive?
I would refer you to your owners manual. I did not add any additive.
What years of the Xterra have the problem with his smod?
I’m not 100%, but I want to say it was 2005-2009.
@@TheNonnell I'm trying to buy a 2013 Xterra 4pro. 200,000 Miles. $8888.
@@Stavros1977 I’m pretty sure anything after 2009 doesn’t have those issues. I haven’t heard of any problems relating to that with later model 2nd Gens.

Yes. Available on Amazon. a.co/d/9geiNqu
The nozzle on my truck has popped out. But I was wondering if I could just E-6000 it back in? Anyone have any luck with this or should I just replace it?
I'm assuming E-6000 is a type of adhesive? It's not very expensive to get a replacement nozzle and pop it in. My nozzle never popped out but it did start to leak. Since replacing with a new nozzle I haven't had any issues.
@TheNonnell yes it's a popular industrial adhesive sold everywhere
So if I'm replacing just my shocks on my LX do I need to mess with the AHC fluid???
You’ll have to disconnect the AHC line to the shocks, but you shouldn’t lose a lot of fluid. Maybe check the reservoir after you’ve completed the job and started the truck to make sure the level is in spec.
good job
Appreciate it! It turned out better than I anticipated. 🙌
The plastic piece is for drawing the filter before removing the housing. No car uses it
Good to know. I throw it out now.
So we're not supposed to remove the locking clip from the main chain tensioner?
Can you give me the time in the video where that came from? Thanks. I don’t recall the question from memory.
@TheNonnell I wasn't brought up in the video it was just shown in the video that the main timing chain tensioner had the locking clip on, it's because I was told it had to be removed
What is the time mark in the video you’re referencing? I’ll go back and look. Thanks
A tip spray your hair with water and go over again once you can’t hear it cutting hair.
Thanks 👍
What breaking bar lebgth fits into the rear compartment? I couldn't break loose the upper caliper today:(
I use an 18-inch ratchet. Its length allows me to loosen stubborn bolts, and once they’re released, it effortlessly removes them.
How did you reuse the old mount bracket?
There is a bolt that clamps the two sides of the mount together around the filter. Simply loosen the mount and pull the old fuel filter out.
I need you to put this into slides and send to me.
😂 if only I had the time
@@TheNonnell 😂😂 I feel this deep in my soul.
Thanks so much for the great vid. What was your cost all in for rotate and brakes? Doing some shopping as we speak.
You’re welcome! Honestly, I can’t remember how much things cost, but I bought all my parts from rockauto. I’d assume you could buy everything for $250 or less.
@@TheNonnell awesome man! Thank you again!!!
Great Work!!!!! My headliner is leaking!!! Now I have the confidence to remove mine!!!
Removing the headliner isn’t too difficult. I assume the issue is from bolts not tight enough against the rivnuts or maybe you suffer from rusted rivnuts like I did and they’re allowing water to enter the cabin. Removal of the rivnuts isn’t too bad as you can drill them out and get replacement rivnuts, but you will need a rivnut tool to install them. Best of luck!
@@TheNonnell thanks, I have a rivnut tool to install new ones.
I spent a year with my new sprayer heads on my truck spraying into space, only to discover I needed to put a needle into the nozzle and aim the spray. The nozzles pivot on mine. YMMV
💯 At the time, I was unaware, but someone had pointed it out, and it turned out that was exactly what was necessary to help them focus accurately.

$1.50 part that’s costly is bad or installed incorrectly.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying but it’s an inexpensive maintenance item when replacing the shocks.
@@TheNonnell just that a small oring can cause issues when it fails.
