Line up with 5 reds under the black
This video is a demonstration of possibly the most difficult red line up exercises, using 5 reds beneath the black ball. This one is designed to encourage red to black positioning. It is also a good practise drill for exacting a disciplined approach. So you must re-set the whole table setup after each missed pot.
I would be really interested to get your thoughts and opinions on this particular exercise. Also please try it yourself to gauge / appreciate the ability level required to achieve this.

    nice you are wpbsa coach just a question? as you walk in you look at the object ball, but when you look at the cueball as you getting down, do you focus on center of the cue ball or the entire cueball. becaz as i get down somehow because of my upper body turn my cue tip ends up to right side of the cueball and then i have to readjust? thank you , please reply

    • @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching

      Once you have chosen the potting angle and you drop into position you should capture both the cue and cue ball together to locate the object bal for that particular shot.

      It restores the playing surface, much the same way as Ambersol table cleaner does. Whether that be actually cleaning the cloth fibres or just create a new playing surface. It's important to mention that chalk and dust must be removed prior to use. I use this approximately once every few months or so.

      @@SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching Thanks for that, you're the first person I've seen using this. I wonder if the cloth become more "shiny" or "extra smooth" where the ball doesn't grip as much and you get less spin reaction?

    • @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching

      More shiny yes, much more smoother yes. However there is more spin, not reduced. It kind of resembles new conditions so a friction reduction.

I've just got to try that as I just run up to the shot and just try to keep my head on the cue my feet are just the tools that bring me there, they face whichever way they want . I have never done two back to back like this. I have set up again and done two in a row back at the yellow but I have only gotten back from black to yellow and green and then missed the brown. Very frustrating, but it's great for position in general, especially the black to yellow shot. I find the hardest shot in colours to be blue to pink if you are too high like you did and checked the cue ball up prrfectly for pink. I never judge it very well so today at the club I am going to spend 30 minutes just doing that shot. Thanks for the inspiration to sort my colours out!

    This is gonna sound wierd, but I've been playin around with lookin between the OB and CB amd kinda letting both balls, the shot line and the pocket all come together. Once u have "set your aiming line" and fall slowly into it, the only thing that matters is a smooth straight stroke. So, If there's a cue tip sized dot on the cloth where u want your tip to stop on follow thru or halfway between the balls, thats where u cue should pointto or stop on. Its similar to shooting a pistol, some people wanna close one eye and focus on the front sight, but i focus on the target with both eyes open and my hands, the pistol sights, the target and everything is in the "shot visual" at the same time.

      There's nothing wrong with triangle chalk. It's really good when kept away from heat sources. Keeps its moisture well. Some others are too damp and seem to lessen the effects of spin for me, so not good in terms of maintaining consistency.

      Hi Simon, Ebony is heavy but most cues these days use the joint as the weight as it's usually around the balance point anyway. Usually as well if it's a hand spliced cue the ash or ebony runs from top to end and the Ebony is layered on so it's not solid Ebony. I have in the past reduced weight also by drilling the butt and replacing with balsa if it had no weight on it.

Alternatively or in addition a running commentary of your thought process for shots/choice of shots would be helpful. This will only work for straight pots. The only way it can possibly work for angled pots is to have a ghost ball on the line of the pot and the contact point would be to the middle of the ghost ball. The method in this video does not take into consideration the width of the ball so you would always miss the pot on the thick side.

    • @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching
      @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The laser always represents the actual contact point made by the cueball. To confirm the correct contact a ghost ball would be introduced. This is how I use it during coaching lessons. As it provides fast positioning of the ghost ball.

    can you please tell me do you look at pocket during featuring or in the final backswing or before delivery ? or the pocket should be in the background or prepheral vision at all the time? i used to look at the cueball as when i was about to hit the cueball but a coach told me years ago to look at object ball , since then i have been having this problem that during features i go like , cueball, objectball, pocket and then cueball , then i look at the objectball as about to hit but i think i move my eyes to pocket while the tip is about to hit the cueball, and i miss alot of shots, should i go back to my old aiming method and look at the cueball when i about to hit the cueball or looking at pocket is normal ? tnx alot for your nice videos

    • @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching
      @SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. I only really concentrate on the relationship between the CB and OB. If the pocket is in sight then this is a bonus and helps to confirm the potting angle. As long as there is no body interference during the backswing and the delivery, it shouldn't matter which ball you sight. I will always prefer CB over OB, but that is just my personal preference. I'm not playing to pro standard but I feel this helps me to maintain a satisfactory standard.

    Yes, the flex/action is important, it can help with off center cue striking, ash cues seem to have a better action than maple in my opinion, lots of variables are involved with how the cue will flex, like age of the wood, tip size, the tapper to the but and it's width. Personally I like a bigger tip 10.5mm as I find it more forgiving than a 9 or 9.5mm, I like the old billiard cues that were 11mm (if you can find one) sanded down to 10.5mm
