  • Snooker Cues. Just what are we looking for in a cue? Here is the 2nd part of my video on Snooker Cues. Here I mention the Shaft stiffness and how it affects play. Also the balance point of a cue and how it plays a part when selecting a cue. What I know about them and what I feel is important to know. My knowledge of them is very general. I hope that i can give you a bit of an insight as to what you would require, regarding Cues.

Yes, the flex/action is important, it can help with off center cue striking, ash cues seem to have a better action than maple in my opinion, lots of variables are involved with how the cue will flex, like age of the wood, tip size, the tapper to the but and it's width. Personally I like a bigger tip 10.5mm as I find it more forgiving than a 9 or 9.5mm, I like the old billiard cues that were 11mm (if you can find one) sanded down to 10.5mm

Ferrule, weight , thickness, height and materials use ...eg, American pool cues uses light weight plastic ferrule , why? Some pro snooker players have switched to titanium due to its light weight.

I have always gone for the medium hardness of tips. So I can't really say how others perform.

@@dkissoflove On my old cue i changed the ferrule with black fiber and the cue really become more forgiving and less deflecting.

Think buy a decent quality cue with good tip then just play all the time with it I play with people that have cues that are not great but they play great because there used to them

My cue is definitely of the budget category. Not even straight. A good tip makes for a good experience all round I'd say.

You have a good point there. Mine cost £7 off ebay and I have a ton a week usually. Would like to make more but I don't believe that this is due to the cues limitations. Just mine! 😊

@@SimonSeabridgeSnookerCoaching I think it’s more about ability and flexibility in your play that allows you to use another cue , rite now I’m looking for a one maple , reason being Iv only ever used maple and always a one piece , gna be hard to adjust but il live , finding the rite one though is a different story unless I adapt to the play of the cue and forget about how my old one used to play , it’s got to be at minimum 59 to 60 inch bog standard ebony butt and maple , the rest il just have to adapt , just don’t want to be limited in my screw power and other shots , it’s like changing your wife , sometimes it’s for the better lol !
