What a shorted armature looks like on a growler

Steve, is there a way to test for a short in an armature without a Growler? Is there a multimeter test?

Not that I'm aware of. But growlers are not too hard to find. As you saw in my other video, you can test for grounds from the commutator to the shaft or laminations with an ohmmeter.

Can the short be repaired or do you just scrap it?

It could be rewound, but that is pretty expensive. Typically I just swap in another armature.
