Willys Jeep 4 Speed Swap: Installing A Warn Overdrive!
มุมมอง 3.6K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Willys Jeep 4 speed swap installing a warn overdrive! I’m excited to finally wrap up the 4 speed swap series. In this video I install the warn overdrive that has been specially matched with my Teraflex low gears. This should give me a greater top speed but also more options in splitting all my forward gears. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. I can’t wait to get the 3B back ...
Willys Jeep 4 Speed Swap: Clutch Linkage!
มุมมอง 2.1K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Willys Jeep 4 speed swap clutch linkage! In this video the 4 speed swap is almost done. I figure out how all the new linkage for the clutch will work with the big 4 speed. There are several methods for doing this but I decided to go for something a little different. This worked out great but the true test will be when I take it for a drive! This should apply to most cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, and cj5. #...
Vintage Jeep CJ5 Starter Upgrade!

Vintage Jeep cj5 starter upgrade! In this video the old cj5 is making some weird noises at start. When I investigate I find the gear on the starter bendix is stripped out. Fortunately I had an upgraded starter sitting on the bench ready to go. Using this upgraded starter which is made for a Toyota Landcruiser gives the old Jeep a lot better start up and is also much more economical than replaci...
Willys Jeep 4 Speed Swap: Transmission Crossmember!

Willys Jeep 4 speed swap transmission crossmember! In this video the new Willys drivetrain is all sitting on its own weight and supported by all the crossmembers and mounts. There’s several different ways to do this portion of the swap and I mention a few in this video. I’m very happy with the final product but hopefully you can learn from my mistakes. This video should apply to most Willys Jee...
Removing The Hard Top On My Vintage Jeep CJ5!
มุมมอง 3K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Removing the hard top on my vintage Jeep cj5! Summer time is finally here and it’s time to take the hard top off and enjoy the warm weather! This worked out really good because I have limited roof space and needed a bigger storage solution for my Willys m38a1. It was for sure easier removing the hard top than installing it. It’s a job I wasn’t excited about doing but I’m glad it’s done and read...

Warn 8274 Winch Albright Contactor Conversion! In this video I show a quick and cheap way to get your old warn 8274 winch upgraded and back into service. The old solenoids warn originally used have pretty much worn out over the last 4 decades and it’s time for a better option. This is a great weekend job anyone should be able to tackle with the information in this video. I think an old Willys J...
Vintage Jeep CJ5 Custom Front Winch Bumper!

Vintage Jeep CJ5 Custom Front Winch Bumper! In this video I remove the old homemade bumper off the CJ5 and build a custom front winch bumper to mount up my Warn 8274 and add some recovery points to my old Jeep. This was a fun project and maybe not the best for first time welders but for sure a great diy project. For my winch mount I sourced a precut kit and fair lead from @brennanmetcalf , so...

Vintage Jeep off-roading at Hurricane Creek Trail North Carolina! In this video I take the old cj5 along with a Scout 800, International Harvester Travelall and a Kaiser M151 Mutt on an off-roading adventure! I was surprised how well all the vehicles performed. The upgrades on the CJ5 all met and exceeded my expectations and now I have a better plan for future upgrades. I believe this trail is ...
Vintage Jeep Alternator Conversion!
มุมมอง 5K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Vintage Jeep alternator conversion! In this video the generator on the old Jeep Cj5 has quit charging. In todays market and alternator conversion is much cheaper than replacing the generator and the conversion is fairly cost effective. I’m glad to have the Jeep charging again and getting it back in action. This should also apply to Willys cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, and cj5 jeeps. Thank you for watching!...
Installing A Hardtop On My Vintage Jeep!
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
Installing a hardtop on my vintage Jeep! Just in time for the cold weather of winter I’ve got the hardtop installed in the old cj5. The hardtop I installed is a vintage meyers hard top. The half top really gives the Jeep a unique look. I have seen this style of hard top on old Willys flatfenders (cj2a, cj3a, cj3b) but I feel like this style is pretty unique for a later Jeep. It was a fun projec...

I Bought A Jeep M38A1!
มุมมอง 11Kปีที่แล้ว
I bought an m38a1! Why did I need another Jeep? You can never have too many! The main reason I purchased this old jeep was for the Buick 225 engine in it. After getting it home and inspecting it it’s too nice to part out. The engine might be swapped out in the future but for now I’m excited to unlock the potential this old military jeep has stored! Willys Jeep 4 speed swap bolting it up! Finally getting back to work on the Willys CJ3B and getting the ford 4 speed t18 bolted to the engine for the first time! Haha love it!
Mr. Jacob Sir.... could i get a subscribe from you at Huffy Turns a Wrench? Please.
you sir, Scored!!
Thank you I was happy!
Awesome video!
I really appreciate it!
Not fast nor easy. I cannot for the life me get get this in.
It was a learning curve for sure! Once I got it done I feel like the next one will be way easier! Good luck!
@@SevenBarSalvage i think the biggest struggle was the frame was a little bent. Took me a couple hours of trying.. probably didn’t help with it being freezing out. i was laughing though, I restored the entire jeep and this was the hardest part.. Thanks for the tips!
@@Texas_taildragginHaha well hopefully you won’t have to worry about it again for a long time!
I take it that t18 was previously with a divorced transfer case?
Possibly I think it might just been a 2 wheel drive truck!
Great job! How would you install the heim joints with the original left knuckle?
You might could possibly stack them but honestly they sell a standard tie rod with a cast hole for a drag link that might be easier!
We have used double sing,e seals on the front and rear transfer case.
I’ve got a newer video where I install those, worked great! Thank you!
Is better use a Yukon 1997 gas tank and Steel cover
I’ll have to check that out!
I did an upgrade like this for my 63 my cj5 but your bracket looks a lot beefier. the master cylinder I used did not have a groove for the rubber bellows for the brake rod , and the m/c was wide and interfered with the body. it also had issues with the dragline coming in contact with the banjo fittings I believe that if I swapped it with a Dorman M56193 style it would fit better .the Dorman top cover looks narrower . I do however like that fact that running a split system is way safer.
That’s good to know thank you!
Nice work on this. You're a good teacher.
Thank you I really appreciate it!
I got the parts for my Selectro’s from Torque King. It looks like someone already commented that, but they work great.
Good to know thank you!
The Jeep you got the Kelsey Hayes wheels off of is a Ford GPW 42-45 how you tell the difference between the Ford and the Willys MB is the front cross member. Go back to the Jeep that you took the breaks off of and you will see the front cross member is tubular the Ford has a channel as the front cross member also the full float rear axle is a pretty valuable item.
Thank you for the info! I wish I would have grabbed that rear axle I was already spending so much money haha
0:48 "This is the predecessor..." Nope. Predecessor means what came before, hence the prefix "pre." The T90 did not predate the T84 from WW2. It came after that. It's the successor not the predecessor. They're opposites.
Thank you for watching!
Rotating brakes forward is worst-case scenario. They're designed to primarily resist forward motion.
Thank you for watching!
The axle moves rearward as the leaf springs compress and the shackles swing.
I would assemble the shifter and linkage before installing it on the bracket so the pin could be reversed and thus made captive.
Good idea!
Sorry to hear about the cracked windshield. Diesel Creek installed a replacement windshield in his '64 and it fit great. Love the idea of the hood latches as windshield latches!
I couldn’t believe he did it without taking the windshield frame off! Thank you I appreciate it!
My '62 CJ5 has the same Shat-R-Proof windshield, so maybe it's original?
That’s cool!
Use some black wire loom to make it blend instead of seeing that red wire. It’s a distraction to your awesome work… just a thought. Thanks for all the details!
That’s a great idea I really appreciate it!
what is the name of the junkyard
Email me at seven.bar.salvage@gmail.com and I’ll send you the location!
I learned in this video A LOT THINGS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍
Glad to hear it!
could u have placed the pcv valve at the blue casting just under the carb.?.. it would be easier to service up higher... just asking.
There was a reason I didn’t and I can’t remember now 🤨 I’m sure it’s doable though! The way I did it was factory but that doesn’t mean it’s the best way. Thank you!
Well done and very helpful. Thanks. Added to the jeep to-do for this coming year.
Glad to hear it!
If you go back you should take a closer look at the rear end on the M38A1 frame. Full-floater rear ends are very desirable as the axle can be pulled without removing the hubs. Hopefully he doesn't want too much for it.
I should have scooped it up but I think he wanted $250 for it 😝
@@SevenBarSalvage Go back and buy it all. Erik is 100% right. The Full floater alone is worth that. And someone will want that frame.
Great collection of parts, well done.
Thank you!
Man you hit paydirt
I couldn’t believe it!
Those wheels are an incredible score! I paid $50 ea for 4 that were WAY crustier than those. I'm going to blast & weld some outer bead locks on them so didn't care that they had 5 layers off different color paint chipping off
Even at $50 each I would have been happy!
I think a company called Torque King sells a Delron replacement cam set for the Selectro style hubs. I ran across them looking for replacement parts for some old Selectro hubs. I also think I saw them mentioned on Sunk Coast Garage channel when he refurbished his sears hubs.
Man I really appreciate you sharing this! I’m gonna order up some!
Thanks for the mention. Yep, I added a link to them on that video in the description. They are sold by Torque King but they drop ship direct from Mile Marker.
@ No problem, I like both your channels great information and entertainment.
@@we773Really appreciate it!
Some great parts found! Where is that junk yard @? They have alot of cool old vehicles!😊
Send me an email to seven.bar.salvage@gmail.com I can’t share my honey hole to everyone 😉
You should save the CJ7 body, put it on a 4x4 F Truck frame, build a monster.
That’d be awesome!
Love to visit a good junkyard!
Same!
Those sears locking hubs are Selectro. I think the one that you broke are the same. I have the sears ones on my '73. They came factory that way. They're hard to turn. Use large pliers.
Hopefully I can find some rebuild parts I’d like to use them!
Wow!!! Great haul!!!!
I was very excited haha!
I'm jealous about the KH 16" wheels, I usually buy those up when I see them for a good deal if they aren't to rotted away. Those will work with the Brennan's disc brake conversion without having to run spacers. Was that a PTO or an overdrive, or is it a rear PTO? Anyway that was some good stuff.
Yeah that’s something I’ve been wanting to show on the channel because most people don’t want to use wheel spacers! I believe that’s the drive unit that goes down to the actual box!
Good score . Wish i had a junkyard like that in my neck of the woods.
There’s not many left!
Great find Jacob. Where is that junk yard located? I been looking for some base steel wheels for my CJ and those white ones you got the duel matic hub off looks like what I been searching for.
Send me an email to seven.bar.salvage@gmail.com and I’ll send you the location 😉
Email sent. Thank you
My latest score: 15x8 5x5.5 Jackman wagon wheels 5 ea. CJ3B windshield 72-75 intermediate years CJ5 clutch and brake pedals. (Wide enough for a size 14 to pass by without hitting the brake pedal when you push in the clutch.) 1971 CJ5 with flanged axle shafts on an offset differential Dana 44.
I think you’ve had more luck that me haha that’s awesome! I’d love to find a set of Jackman wheels one day!
The DJ steering column has a U joint on the bottom instead of the ross box. Retains the original look. Worth grabbing for sure. They are expensive and hard to come by when you need one. I could use that mgb-gt parts car right now. Iv got those superwinch hubs on my 2a theyre good hubs. Not really desireable but im sure you cant get parts anymore seems like they are kinda rare. Always grab 16" wheels
I might have to make a 3rd trip this year to get that column haha thank you for the info!
Man, Jacob you got it good! I love going shopping in junk yards, but it was 8 below zero today in Wisconsin. I don't love it THAT much! Lol
Haha yeah that’s too cold to do anything 😂
Great score! Sunkcostgarage on youtube just rebuilt those hubs. he had to replace a cam. maybe you could reach out to him to see where he sourced it.
Thank you!
You scored some good stuff, those frames were in good shape, I'd see how much for just the frames. Those 16" rims are military, and that frame was military, because that plate in the back was what they mounted the machine gun turret to, that had a decent frame. You can't buy everything, but it's good to pick and save these parts for back ups, or even a future find. G-d bless.
I appreciate it! I wish they would make deals on some stuff instead of one price list. I’d love to save more stuff but some of their pricing makes sense and some is way over priced!
There was another jeep that all 4 white wheels that looked real good did you notice what size they were? Great video,Thanks
I didn’t pay attention I’m sure it’ll be there next time I’ll check it out!
👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Those disc brakes work well on all 4 wheels. That's what I have and no booster, they work fine. Calipers are very cheap on ebay and so far work well.
That’s great to hear!
The frame you got the wheels off of looks like a 52-53 M38A1 frame. It has the reverse shackles up front. I believe only M38A1 frames had reverse shackles. Those wheels were quite a score. They might have the safety bead recess on the inside and outside bead that helps to keep the tire on the rim.
I knew it was military I’m not super familiar with the identification though thank you for sharing!
@@SevenBarSalvage You might go back and pull the tiedown loops from the M38A1 frame mounted on the frame sides these make excellent jeep tie downs for trailer hauling
@@artcontoni3458That’s a good idea!
You just don’t see the old stuff up here in eastern Ontario. Thanks for the vid
It’s getting pretty rare in the south too!
Disk Conversion - 73-87 1/2 Ton Chevy 4x4 Brake Backing Plates and Calipers (much thicker and beefier than the CJ-& backers and the Chevy would be all one piece), and 76-78 thick CJ-7 Rotors.
I’ve been wanting to try that thank you for sharing!
The Jeep rolling chassis with the Spicer 18H PTO is either a CJ3A or B. This is the best of the true Flat Fender frames...You should buy the whole chassis if affordable without the engine. The Sears Hubs are Selectro Hubs, there were rebranded with many names including Sears.
I wish they would negotiate a little more I would have bought everything minus the engine!
@@SevenBarSalvage Yes, that was ridiculously high -$2-300 for the rolling chassis would be more realistic
That is a military frame. Full floating rear axle. That mount is for a machine gun. Wheels have the extra light hole making them military and are worth 100 plus each.
The rims are just standard KH Willys Wheels. Combat Wheels bolt together so you cans dismount tires in the field without a machine...Good rims, get them. You stole those at $15 each!
@artcontoni3458 h?mm? Looked like the rims had the small hole indicating a m38 m38-1 or m170 rim.
Are those rear axles worth grabbing? Thank you for the info!
@SevenBarSalvage yes, depending on price. Frame looks like a m38 also. I was told that they are the strongest frame made.
